Great to hear about the study on animal protein consumption versus cancer in animals, it's already solid science, what else do we need to hear? Also, I hate industrialized animal farming, it's so cruel. Hope more people listen to this. Thanks much for Sharing!!
Great talk! I have two of his books: The Forks Over Knives Cookbook and The China Study Quick & Easy Cookbook. Chef Del is a genius at creating delicious plant-based dishes!
I collected a bunch of vegan cookbooks. The ones you mentioned are among the few out there that create meals without added oil. Others are Simply Delicious Vegan and follow-up FOK and TCS cookbooks.
agreed, whole my life approx 24 years, i never really thought about what i ate and i looved meat i often ate so much it hurt my belly :p. any way one day i decided to stop, and actually be consciousness about what i ate and i went on a vegan diet, i began to train on a daily basis, and now around 7 month lather i never felt so great in my intire life, and im not planning to stop it, i do eat some meat sometimes but it is rarely..
Some foods that are accepted by vegans are still not good, there are specific veggies, erbs, spices, and nuts that keep us alive. I feel more energy without meat. I ate meat over 30 yeaes
It´s a different story if you want to build muscle...which is what i define as healthy as well. But with vegan protein powder this is not a problem at all too
To all the people mocking him for his weight instead of listening to his words: some people just love to eat a lot, some do because of psychological reasons. You don't know. And anyway, the amount of food ingested, here is not the problem: it's the TYPE of food. That's what he's trying to say, but you're too busy being judgemental to pay attention. I've been battling with food addiction for almost all my life, I went vegan 7 years ago and I'm still 20 kg overweight, but my doctor can testify I'm way healthier than before going vegan. Am I happy with my weight? No. But at least I know that I have a much lower risk of getting cancer, alzheimer, heart desease etc... than someone who eats a "regular" diet.
Your judging people about judging people make sense it could be that your saying to all the people that are mocking me and by me I mean you I as in you have psychological reasons for the way I as in you are
Why does everyone always go to extremes? Vegans cut out animal products entirely and their opponents usually eat meat/other products twice a day. Why can't we learn from the ancient peoples diet and go back to that? They had dairy. But, it wasn't pasteurized, it was fresh, and the milk was different than from what modern commercial milk provides. They had honey. But, it wasn't mostly, if not all, corn syrup. It was wild naturally occurring honey. And it would be occasional. They had meat. But, the animals were naturally free range, not fed corn, and it was occasional. The animal was too valuable (and meat expensive) to have it all the time. The grains they had were different than the ones we have today. Grains are what fed humanity for millenia. They did not have processed sugar. It was far too expensive and rare for people to afford it. I don't think the right move is to dismiss anything. Rather, improve the quality, and check the quantity of what it is we're putting into our body.
he may be overweight, but did we consider how much he lost before the ted talk on his vegan diet? not because hes an overweight speaker that he didnt shed many pounds thanks to his findings
I believe he specifically mentioned that he gained 200 lb when he became a vegan. He went on to mention that he defied The Stereotype that vegans were skinny and weak.
Well as healthy as a vegan diet is judging by his weight I don't think carrying that much weight is super healthy so he totally destroys the purpose of eating that healthy LOL!
Adrian Daret I've listened to his trials and tribulations about food and eating. He eats very healthy but his problem is he just loves food so much. I've followed him for years and he doesn't seem to be able to hold back but again it's all very healthy food. Some people just have to sacrifice and accept reality that they must hold back from eating.
The Artificial Society I dont agree here. Of course if you intake 5000 calories a day and dont do any physical activity well then eating "healthy" is good n all but still harmfull.
100 calories of broccoli is approximately 300g, which equates to just over half a bunch. 100 calories of beef is around 75g, and has about 17g of protein in it. Not only are his numbers inaccurate, but how many people do you actually see eating that amount of broccoli in one sitting? I'm vegetarian, and I want to support what he is saying, but his argument is flawed. It is difficult to get enough protein on a vegan diet, so you have to make an extra effort to eat foods that are high in protein.
unploas , animal proteins destroy two types of protein profile due to high acidity from meat consumption, you get less protein from meat and it is less bioavailable. Studies has shown plant based diet is a large source of bioavailabile protein and you get more than recommended just from eating 1 meal of plant based diet. Also his numbers is approximate and are revelant, the world of nutrition is not solely base on numbers, your body doesnt always intake the exact sources of certain nutrient due to chemical being induced into meat.
I don't want to go back through his talk and verify all his numbers. However, it is EASY to get enough protein (and all your essential amino acids) on a whole food plant based diet. If you eat any amount of beans, peas, or lentils it becomes even easier. Everything has some amount of protein, and it all adds up quickly. If by "extra effort" you mean don't get the majority of your calories from vegan ice cream and oreos, o.k. However, any balanced whole food vegan diet will include legumes, vegetables, and probably whole grains, nuts, and seeds, and getting enough protein will be simple.
I'm sure the cancer didn't have anything to do with poor people on small farms not affording meat, and the other people living in areas covered with pesticides and industrial waist.
I'm amazed at how unhealthy some vegans eat. Instead of my side dish, ( produce and whole grains) they eat fries, coke, candy, and a lot of over priced, plant based junkfood. Sure, you could eat healthy as a vegan, but in my experience, few do.
Great talk. Unfortunately, I do think him being overweight compromises not only his message, but the whole vegan movement. As vegans we have a responsability to look good or else ppl will blame it on the diet. It´s not his fault, but that´s the end result.
Regardless some valid points in this video all vegans are out there to tell us that their diet is better and healthier than a non-vegan diet. The lecturer's physique begs to differ. I'm not gonna comment at all on vegan diets but what I will say is that there are perfectly balanced non-vegan diets.
You can digest many types of foods that are not that healthy for you. This isnt a good reason to eat them. Also there's the environment, sustainability, and general ethics to consider.
Raising your vibration, opening your heart, being present, living longer and healthier lives, taking a stand on animal cruelty. So much to choose from :)
First, he has his facts wrong. 100 calories of Broccoli does not have 12 grams of protein. It’s more like 8. Plus, he doesn’t mention that 100 calories of Broccoli means some 300 grams of the vegetable. So calm down, sir. Veganism is undoubtedly good, but don’t promote it as a panacea. I’m no expert here, but nowadays, one quick fact check online is all you need to see the true picture, thankfully. Take care, people. Just because it’s a TEDx talk doesn’t mean it has to be 100% correct.
My wife and I saw him in person in early 2016 and he looks heavier than at the talk we attended. Is he or isn't he actually losing weight? That's what I want to know.
Austin Bryan no doubt about it, my only observation is that people who are not able to manage their caloric balance, should not be put in the condition to give nutritional advice to anyone, until they haven't figured out their own stuff !!

I find it interesting that many of these comments assume weight is the sole indicator of health
Is it not I mean just think about your joints alone honestly

Adrian Daret compare obesity/overweight rates among vegans to non vegan flesh eaters. you'll notice a difference :) all we need to survive our plants!
Left after you mentioned broccoli
can you imagine his farts from a daily pound of broccoli?

Let us see this logically. If we have digestive systems that can digest animal based protein why should we not consume it?
You can digest many types of foods that are not that healthy for you. This isnt a good reason to eat them. Also there's the environment, sustainability, and general ethics to consider.
