- 📝 Manhã de Carnaval" ("Carnival Morning"), often referred to as "Black Orpheus", is a song by Brazilian composer Luiz Bonfá and lyricist Antônio Maria. "Manhã de Carnaval" appeared as a main theme in the 1959 Portuguese-language film Orfeu Negro (Black Orpheus) by French director Marcel Camus.
🍀This is a video I'm very excited to share: it is my first Brazilian song on the piano, with a hardworking and talented Brazilian artist, José Fernando Seifarth, who serves as a Family Court judge! We met through our keen interest in Gypsy/Manouche jazz: I arrange Gypsy Guitar tunes for the piano, and he has been arranging and hosting Gypsy Jazz festival in Piracicaba, Brazil since 2013, in addition to recording with many world-renowned musicians in his studio. He is also a rhythm guitarist, and hopefully in the coming few weeks, there will be a larger scale collaboration on a Gypsy Jazz tune.
🎶 A little about this arrangement:
This interpretation has a minimalist yet dynamic approach -- where I wanted to use only the piano as the accompaniment, yet bring out its the percussive character, and fill in the quiet gaps in the melody.
