    If I use this kit will I be able to use CDJs? I really look the look of the XDJ but I wanna make sure I'm comfortable using CDJs (they're just too expensive for me to buy!) as they seem to be industry standard

      Yes you will. They are similar if not identical when you use them. Only more effects and more possible channels to use depending on what mixer you use.

    Bought that thing about a week ago...
    Cons i wish i had known about:
    - Cannot Beatjump more than 8 beats at once because it has not enough memory (according to Pioneer)
    - Pads have no tactile feedback
    - Rekordbox is terribly slow (transferring ~150 tracks to a USB drive takes over 10 minutes)
    - No Camelot Notation unless you use software like mixed in key or edit the tags yourself
    - Cannot read from exFAT devices
    The first two points are really frustrating for me right now, because i like to mix on the fly, starting the new track after a drop and going back and forth in 32 (or 16) beat steps. If i do that with 8 beat jumps i have to press the pad up to 8 or even 16 times. The controller only recognises one "tap" every half of a second or something around that. And because theres no real feedback i sometimes press 4 times but it only recognises 3 of them and stuff like that. So far i like my DDJ T1 better and i'll probably try to bring the XDJ RX2 back to the vendor or resell it if they dont take it back.

    I was looking into get an XDJ-RX2 but managed to score a used RX1 in perfect condition off Kijiji for a third of the price of a new RX2. Definitely don't regret it. It would have been months before I'd get to start learning.

    Hey Ellaskins, been DJing for over a year now (mostly house disco and techno) and as am going to Uni in Bristol in September I want some new decks to hopefully start getting more gigs. So far I have DJed in a local bar and mix nigh on everyday using my Serato Mixtrack Pro 2's. Should I upgrade to a second hand set of the DDJ SB2's or a bit more of an investment in myself with these?

    Can you do a video on the DDJ 1000 ???

  • @djibg2721
    @djibg2721 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Ellaskins, is it possible to pitch a song up/down in semitones, whilst keeping the same tempo? For example, if you have one song in Cmin and another in C#min, and you want to mix harmonically, you could simply pitch the one in Cmin up to C#min and boom, mixed in key. It doesn't seem possible with the RX2 but maybe you can clear this up. Cheers.

    The xdj-r1 freezes up (not to be confused with the xdj-rx1). Tons of negative reviews online for the same issue. I'm skeptical with another pioneer controller. Have you had any issues with the RX2?

    This video is an absolute god send, thank you for making it because ive been wanting to upgrade my kit possibly to this. Ive been djing for about a year on a second hand ddj sb2 that was great to learn on as a beginner. However, ive literally got all the use i can out of it, and the fact it only has the 2 channels, basic effects etc etc means its very limited in what it can do and what i can do. Also because ive been using regularly my mates ddj sx2 ive moved up to using 4 channels and taking advantage of all the additional technology it has on it. I dont know whether you could advise or anyone reading this if the xdj rx2 would be a good upgrade for me (i know it uses rekordbox and id have to learn that over serato dj) but im willing to make the investment and learn on a new controller. Thank you any advise is much appreciated

    I have to be honest. I had the rx1 and yes sold it for 1050€ and bought the rx2 for 1700€. Never regret this choice. It's absolutely a step forward with the colour touch screen and search option in the browser menu. Also like the extra colour pads that you can assign to cue points with different colors. I have a little colour mapping. Blue for drops, red for clean intro or outro beat and so on.
    The rx2 also works flawless with rekordbox permanent mode. With the rx1 sometimes some bugs in midi mode. Kind regards, Hans

    if you're lucky enough to land on a used rx 1st gen for £800 you will face less depreciation than a rx2. Personally I would chose a xdj700 (pair) with a djm250, then add ddj-xp1 to the setup, it would add more flexibility and hold its value more over a controller.

    MY PIONEER XDJ RX2 REVIEW
    After years of usage of my beloved RX1 decided to upgrade an RX2 lightly after that was released. I was very excited about the new model, even if that looked almost identical to the previous one.
    Some background of me, i started dj-ing on vinyl, then went to CDJs. I had several Pioneer models during the years, including XDJs, CDJ 2000s and DJM800, but for my needs i found the Pioneer XDJ RX1 the most suitable. (i also owned other brands but always preferred Pioneer in the dj booth.)
    So, i am not gonna lie, didn’t like the RX2… If you ever had a RX1 and used it (an loved it) i really not recommend to get an RX2. It’s not gonna worth it for you and due to the new tweaks (listed in my cons below) you will probably end up selling it and going back to the RX1.
    You might like the RX2 if you never had a RX before, but i found this new model unnecessary and very expensive. Pioneer changed a few things which they shouldn’t do and not in the good way.
    Now, after a few months of home and gig usage i sold my RX2 and went back to the RX1 instead. I am not saying that you should do the same, but maybe consider this review if you about to upgrade.
    Pro:
    ----
    - Better, larger (heavier) and more “CDJ-feel” jog wheels
    - Looks a bit more pro and serious than the RX1
    - Slightly accurate track CUE-ing
    Cons:
    -----
    - Expensive.
    - The “touch” screen is a gimmick. Only operates needle search and QWERTY keyboard, so don’t expect more and feels “dated” comparing to the cheapest touchscreen iPhone. It’s more like a car navigation system.
    - Re-arranged knob layout is annoying around the headphone CUE selector
    - Crowded and busy layout comparing to the RX1
    - Track navigation knob/buttons needs some time to get use to after the RX1
    - I wasn’t a big fun of the big effect knobs either.
    - Non-clicking performance pads are easy to touch accidentally. They should have some light feedback/response.
    - Sound quality is less pronounced and punchy for both output and sound records. It do sounds more “open” and has a wider sound stage, but this can be an issue if you really want to concentrate on beat-matching for example. Some notes will get lost easily and this could be even worst if you are in a very noisy club environment… (or just add less accurate headphone and you probably won’t be able to beatmach tracks manually… :S
    - Occasional problems with the touch screen. This is a known issue. (Needed to restart or re-calibrate.)
    - Not a real weakness, but little larger (in height) so you won’t able to use either your RX1 flight case or decksaver cover

    i bought a par of 1210 mk5g's in 2007 for £1000.they are worth more now! Limited Edition Technics that's why I think they were the 25th Anniversary. I hear the 30th Anniversary gold go for silly money these days. Its only really cdjs that go down in price, have you seen how much you can pick up a pair of cdj 1000 mk3's for like £350 Technics though do hold their value a lot better!

    Rekordbox is crap....i dont know anyone who actually djs with it. Until it becomes more stable then i wont be leaving serato. Plus how about if your a dj who plays many genres in one night...using a USB flash drive is not the best option compared to a SSD in your macbook...plus, .looking at a small screen and searching for tracks through big folders is gonna do your head in. Great if your a dj that plays one genre in a hours work, but most of us play 5/6 hour sets. Sorry to be negative but you make this out to be the bees knees and it aint.

    • @djbydesign
      @djbydesign 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use rekordbox with export link with xdjs and have been for years. I also use rekordbox DVS. Always 4 hour minimum sets, no breaks. Also use just a USB on the players quite often. NEVER have any stability issues. You're kidding yourself if you think serato never crashes.

      your right there..i use a macbook pro, serato with an sl3 or ddj sx2. I dj 5 nights a week and need reliability. Btw I used to use Traktor and had issues but since serato nothing...Your in the minority for working djs who play out quite a bit

    • @djbydesign
      @djbydesign 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very few working DJs I know use Serato or Traktor. Rekordbox is as stable as Serato if you're running the PC software. I play 3 nights a week, 4 hour sets, multiple genres. I find no issue using just the screens on my xdjs for browsing.
      If Serato was to crash while using your sx you'd be fucked. And don't say it will never happen.

    • @djraahil
      @djraahil 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. So glad to read this comment especially since I have just switched to rekordbox from Serato after having alot of stability issues with Serato (I've used Serato for 4 years, it was perfect before during the scratch live days but its no longer stable anymore). Im now using pro dj link connected to CDJ 2000 nexus as well as pure USBs when I can depending on the gig.
