Especially if Nick were really callous and laughed about it. Then when the crew came back in, he went back to acting serious and denying everything. The reporter would either just be sitting there like, "do I say something?" or he'd confront Nick and it would be a fight. Either way, it'd be funny and would actually get a reaction out of the reporter.
