While I was watching this, my wife walked by and saw you. She said your shirt brings out your "incredible blue eyes". She never says anything like that about me... Thanks a lot.
What I love about TH-cam are people who put the time and effort into their arrangement of these great guitar pieces. We all know that we can't platy like Jerry, but each of these videos gives us a clue about what he was doing, and how to get that sound. If you are an intermediate/advanced fingerstyle guitar player, be a student of "Reedology." His music is really a joy to play.
Thanks for a great lesson. To anyone out there who is struggling with this great tune, just keep bashing away at it, section by section, and you will get there. The odd shapes trip you up at first but soon they become familiar and it starts to flow. Its taken me about 6 months to get it just about right and I revisit this video every now an again to fill in the gaps. Fantastic tune!
Really great lesson and demonstration, thanks. I have great admiration for anyone who can play Jerry Reed tunes. They are extremely challenging and if you can get to that level, you are definitely an advanced guitarist. This is only one of many that are just as difficult to get right.
Jiffy Jam is a fun one. I will often play The Claw as the 1st tune to get things moving. I will never understand how Jerry came up with all these tunes.
I have the tab from Ultimate Guitar Tabs. I think they link to this video among others. Great tune but I have just started learning it. My pinky keeps saying it doesn't want to do this one. I'll convince it.
This song gives me a headache I’ve been trying all day one of the hardest fingerstyle songs I’ve attempted thanks for the lesson I’m going to go back to pulling my hat out
Thanks for the breakdown on this great tune... I’m 68... been playin’ since I was 8... into my second week working on this... never had so much trouble getting my thumb to do what it’s supposed to do! this is the hardest thing I’ve ever learned... figure I got about 6 months to go...
@@WilhelmWilder… Got about halfway there. Injured my left hand pushing a chisel doing some woodworking into first finger, cutting the tendon and nerves… two surgeries later I’ve lost feeling in the finger but can bend it. Slow going to get back to where I used to be. … But I’m not giving up.
How long did it take you to get a good level of right hand thumb independence? I'm trying to teach myself this style of playing, a couple of hours a night. It is getting better but still finding it so hard after 20 years of never really using this style! Really good tutorial, also trying your Bella Soave tutorial which is excellent. Keep up the good work
Hi. I wonder if you should think about it as thumb independence from the start. For me it was just a sequence of fingers and thumb moves at the beginning. Only later, once I knew my songs really well the independence popped into existence as a result of paying attention to particular voices.
yes thats how it seems to be for me too.......35+ years with guitar.......I learned a few Tommy tunes when I 1st discovered him but I always avoided these "boom chick" style tunes like the plague....this style is so unique that its hard for even advanced players if/when you never played it before(ironically maybe even harder for experienced players)....I just stuck with it & now after a few solid months I'm getting ok at some of the more advanced tunes like this & Luttrell...... so to rephrase I think If your just starting out perhaps do begin by worrying about thumb/finger independence .....if not....just make it work no matter how hard/slow & it will eventually come to you.......nice post THANKS

You may be right. If I can make a suggestion: don't get into "I learn a song" mode right away. Just use these first bars as an exercise for your pinky. Just do it for couple of minutes every day. Once it gets strengthen, learn the rest of the song. This way you save yourself some frustrations. Good luck!

Hah! Sorry for that. Still made my day ;)

Thanks! My Dad used to like to watch J. Reed when he came on the TV back in the 60's 70's
I learned Jiffy Jam but this is on a different level.

Very helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Loved this will put it in my list to learn... XXOOXX
very useful !
Another great lesson, thank you so much. Do you know Ol Brother Hubbard? Please keep them coming ....
Nicely done but offering tab PDFs would be a real help!
Thank you for the lesson/ It's not a easy song to play.
Great tutorial. How in the world did Jerry come up with this??? I ask that a lot when learning his stuff.
How did you learn it? Music/Tab? Note by note by ear? Watching T.E.? Thanks.
It,s drop d not open!
Can you please download the tab or score?
Tommy Emmanuel has the tab at tommyemmanuel.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/tommy-emmanuel-struttin.pdf

Haven’t heard much from you
Which Model of Maton is this ?
It's ebg808te (you can always tell about cgp inlay on 12th fret).
boom chick!
Please play the whole piece at the beginning. Its easier to figure what you are explaining later. But great lesson nontheless...
drop D NOT open D mate
You're obviously right. Thanks for pointing that.
