  • A real-world, fair and scientific evaluation of 3 industry-leading column arrays. All systems were powered from the same power source, provided identical input signal and measured from a calibrated measurement system at identical distance and position in the room.

I don't comment on a whole lot of videos but I had to on this one. You guys did a fantastic job showing these off. Loved how you provided all the data so we could easily see the characteristics of each system. I've been trying to find people who do exactly what you've done here with actual real world knowledge and experience. This is the first video I've seen from you guys and I subscribed because this video was just that fantastic. Cheers to you guys. Keep 'em comin'.

Great video, really enjoyed watching this, thanks for taking the time to put this together. As you summarised all of these systems have their pros and cons, after a listening test for me I choose the FBT CS 1000 system and have been very pleased with the results I've had from it over the last 10 months of gigging it.

Exceptional review and extremely fair to all three manufacturers. I've mixed two bands that have the EV Evolve 50, both running one set per side, and they sound really good. I've heard the CS1000's and thought they were okay, but have yet to hear the RCF's.

As me being someone who over analyzes almost everything, This has got to be one of the most scientific evaluations on speaker comparison I’ve ever seen. Excellent job on showing us the actual charted data. It cuts away any bias with facts. It sure beats cranking up speakers and blaring them into a mic to see what they sound like on the other end of a handheld device lol. Thank you!

I can't believe it's been 5 whole years since I first laid eyes on this video! And let me tell you, that Evolve 50 purchase has been an absolute game-changer for me. But as I rewatch the video now, I just noticed something that's been gnawing at the back of my mind - those speakers are on a carpeted surface! As an audio aficionado, I know that carpet can have a significant impact on sound quality. This discovery has me practically jumping out of my seat with questions and disbelief???

We'll I for one own the 1st Generation RCF Evox 8's with the wooden subs and they kick butt! I have heard many different speakers in this type of configuration. Most people use them as DJ speakers but i use them for FOH speakers for many of the bands i mix sound for. The difference for me in this test and i have seen this first hand is when you pour the gas to them they are LOUD and they don't clip! I have used these speakers for outdoor concert's and when people look at them, you see them snicker about their size. They come up to me all the time and can't believe how they can get that much power into such a little speaker. and they are clean. Ran sound for a band at a retirement party outside and talked to the guy that retired about 3 weeks after the gig and he told me his neighbors 2 miles down the road said they sat outside and listened to the band. They told him they could understand every word and song the band played.

I'm a singer and was looking at the Evox 8v2 (or possibly Evox 12) vs Evolve 50. I currently have RCF 715's. They give great sound but I need something easier to be lugging around and setting up 3/4 times per week! Cheers for the review. This has helped as I was reading mainly from DJ's!

  • @Torino2006

Great video.Thanks.I purchased the Evox 8 for it's simplicity. There was a deal on the internet that bundled it with it soft shell bag which holds everything,a Yamaha mixer & travel bag & headphones by Audi-Technica, all for the price of the Evox 8 itself.Great deal. The Evolve 50 has some usable features but I worry that at some point they may fail and the whole things goes to the repair shop.I am a DJ that works sometimes 30 jobs in a row during season with an occasional night off. After three years of use I only had to replace the speak-on connector which they sent me a replacement for free.A local music store authorized dealer repaired in one day. This system is clean even when you are pushing it .This video is correct when showing how the highs taper off.Perfect sound for the dance floor and a softer sound for the people on the sidelines at tables talking, not so much in your face.I have also found that with systems like these it is better to keep them at about two to three feet away from the walls. The bass on this is loud and needs to be trimmed for tightening the low end .Definitely you need a EQ to better maximize the whole sound that this system can put out.I hope this review helps people in their decision. Thanks again for the video.

Although close one important thing was missing. Input sensitivity. Yes all 3 were set to their respective 0 db or 12 o'clock depending on model but some units require more or less input to reach full output. 1 may reach full output at 0dbu or the next unit may require +8dbu to reach full power. If the 2 units just mentioned were both given the same input signal and they both had the same spl output by design the one that required +8dbu to reach full output would measure 8db's lower in level. Next time reference unit in test ( the different speakers you are measuring ) to the same level. Put a 1k test tone out with your mixer and don't touch the volume. Bring up each speaker to say 80db's of output by using their input sensitivity (volume) knob in the back to match all 3 to the same level. Now measure them. 2nd way is Bring your reference mixer up to +6db's in output with pink noise. This time turn up each speaker system until their output clip light just starts to flash and leave the knob there on the back. Use the input sensitivity knob on each speaker system so that when they all receive the same signal they all reach full output at the same time. Turn the mixer down to below speaker clipping and measure from there. Without a reference level, a 1k match or clip match there is no way to tell which one has the greater output. Regardless nice to see the RTA measurement differences of these units.

Great video. I evaluated all of these systems before deciding on the FBT CS-1000. The flexibility of the tilt-able top, and array capabilities won out for me. Not to mention the ability to have a short pole setup. I do wish it had Bluetooth, but honestly would only utilize it once or twice a year.

EV 50 IS already in an ARRAY patter for the upper, so the last comment is not giving fair representation of the EV 50, as if you look under the top mount speakers, you see they are absolutely already “arrayed” and this is why there is such pure and consistent sound quality the full 120 degrees

We use the system 4 nights a week and we and all our patrons are very impressed. It handles 100 to 150 people easily with just one setup. Sound distance is the best as well- even and smooth! NO REGRETS

  • @pcognitore

During the limit test was the measurement mic still placed at 25ft? If so, seems like all three systems pretty much topped out at ~90db. Which would give a max SPL of about 108db at 1m (if I did the math correctly). Which seems pretty low, particularly when the manufacturers claim a max SPL of about 20db higher than that. The specified SPL is likely a calculated, theoretical peak and the real-world measurement is an average and also I don't know how the crest factor of the test signal plays into what we're seeing here. Any thoughts on this?

    • @techmetal2292
      @techmetal2292 ปีที่แล้ว

I feel like all SPL numbers are inflated, whatever test is done it gives the highest spl possible and not what you get in real world use, this sucks but all manufacturers seem to do it so you can still use the number to evaluate how loud one is compared to another

Thanks for the comparison! I have been running the L1M2 for about 5 years, best purchase I have ever made. I found the specs somewhere, it’s 1000 watts to the sticks and 800 to the sub, iirc. My biggest complaint has been the low end, a s ingle B2 bass module just cannot make people feel it. My larger rig is a pair of EV ELX15’s with a pair of 18SP’s, so when I need more thump, I simply plug one of 18SP’s into the base of the Bose, and it’s perfect. That being said, hauling around an 18SP is a PITA, and a pair of B2’s might be a better choice. Make sure and get the Bose mixer, it is truly a work of art. Built in compression, fx, mic and amp modeling, even a guitar tuner, but NO Bluetooth... Bose just came out with some new Tonematch mixers, maybe they have added more features. I have used my L1M2 for a crowd of 250, indoors, and it really struggled but made it through the night. I have used it for a band PA, KJ, even as a stage monitor for my other rig, and it keeps on going. A lot of people dis Bose for their pricing, and I agree that they need to be more competitive with other brands, but I’m happy with my purchase, and would do it again without hesitation. I am gradually migrating from DJ/KJ, to live sound for bands, and will likely add a second rig, but two L1M2’s are more difficult to pair and get the correct sound. The array in the M2 basically bounces sound waves off of each other, giving 360 degrees of sound all the way around the stick. Adding a second M2, depending on placement, could cancel each other out. A smarter choice for a band setup, might be the L1 compact, which doesn’t have staggered drivers, and is more of a conventional array, like the others you guys tested. Some things I would like to have seen in your test, would have been sound levels and quality from the sides (say 90 degrees), and also all faders set at the same levels with dB readings to show which one was most efficient. I would like to see a comparison indoors, with no EQ, with pink noise and an RTA. Plenty of phone apps out there for this, pink noise you can download online. That test, will show the facts about how well each systems performed in the same exact venue. Thanks again for the comparison, guys, I’m subscribing!

I've been running a pair of L1M2's with 2 B-2 bass subs, I've had no problem creating an impressive low end. My complaint is with the high end frequencies, nothing can replace a horn and driver in my opinion.

Gain staging is a must on L1 units. I also struggled in early ownership to get the best sound out of the first L1M1 with 2 B2’s then a L1M2 with a B2. You def have to have a Bose mixer to make them sing. Now I do events for up to 450 with one unit.

Is the EV a plastic box vs the FBT and RCF's wood construction?

The EV is not a plastic box. The sub is made out of birch plywood.

Hello! Awesome job regarding the pink noise feedback and comparison part! Is there a similar mesurement for the RCF EVOX 12?

Hey guys! I'm looking for the loudest of the three, they all sound great from what I've read, and I'm not too picky about the specifics of the sound quality. I just want the one that is loudest. It looked like the rcf peaked just a tad higher than the EV. My question is, was that slim margin on the graph actually a large margin in real world volume? Or is the graph about on proportion with how loud it sounds? If so, I want the EV, because I can take a small chip out of the volume in favor of the ascetics and quick setup.

      Great review guys !
I would love see one one the Carvin TRX and the new Peavey 1263.
Most of my music now is 2 or 4 piece band.

Rcf says that theirs were designed with the dj in mind. More emphasis on bass and treb. Same with EV. I imagin a system more focsed on vocals cutting thru would be more band oriented.

16:21 you are wrong. The CS1000 HAS the built-in DSP board with 8 presets. The DSP board is mounted on the power module, which is a Class-D amp delivering 600W to the sub and 400W to the top satellite speaker
