- Welcome to today's video where you saw the renovation of an old manual stand drill.
These tools have a long history and development, they were developed to make the process of drilling and countersinking in the vertical plane easier and more efficient.
As such, drills have undergone a long development.
The first electric hand drill for mast installers was already assembled in 1896 by the German Wilhelm Emil Fein. It was an oil-filled drill in a cast iron box with a pair of wooden handles weighing 7.5 kilograms and rated at 45 watts.
The first drill with a pistol grip was invented and patented in 1915 by Americans Duncan Black and Alonzo Decker.
They were drills with an aluminum case with an input of 600 watts.
Lighter drills with Bakelite handles spread across Europe in the 1930s thanks to the German companies Metabo and Bosh. It was only at the turn of the 1960s that high-speed universal electric motors began to be used and double insulation was introduced, thereby increasing work safety. Until then, insulation was only simple and rubber gloves and boots had to be used.
The drills, which today, after more than a century of development, correspond to the purpose of use, have in common with Fein's only that they drill holes not only in steel, wood, plastic, but also in masonry and concrete.

Awesome results as usual! But I'm wondering why you don't make it easier on yourself when disassembling, by using penetrating oil on the rusty threads and tight fits? It made me cringe when you removed that screw with dry threads... Just a suggestion... Happy Sunday!

@@carldelawter8900 pretty sure he can obtain some sort of spray lubricant...
Spray lubricant takes a long amount of time to penetrate. Removing rust from surfaces that components will slide over helps with disassembly, but heating metal components like was shown in the beginning of the video will allow metal to enlarge a couple of thousandths (tenths of a mm) and allow for easier disassembly. The metal doesn't have to get red hot. 250 or so degrees f or 120 degrees c is enough for many things.
@@robertoswalt319 I've disassembled thousands of rusty things in my life, and only in extreme cases, is flame heating required. Spraying penetrating oil on rusty nuts, bolts, stuck parts, etc in general, usually makes disassembly considerably easier. It doesn't always take a long time for the lubricant to penetrate, but it's sure nice that it's there, when you're backing off that bolt that's been rusting for a hundred years...
I'm guessing he does not like the oily film that he would then need to clean of everything before treating the rust or painting, he works in a very neat and tidy enviroment mostly with smaller items.

I had to laugh when you dismantled the pen to get the spring. My son did the same thing to fix a toy he had taken apart and stretched the spring out on. I was very puzzled when my pen wasn’t working properly… then found out why!😂

Chtěl bych Vám poděkovat, že jste ještě jednou zachránil starý a téměř zničený kus historie pro budoucí generace řemeslníků.
Díky spoustě láskyplných detailů a práškového lakování jste udělali skok od té doby do současnosti a dopadlo to velmi dobře.
A jako vždy velmi pěkný a poučný závěr s ohlédnutím za tvorbou vrtaček.

Tuto vrtačku měl můj dědeček, kdoví kam se poděla když umřel, bylo mi v tu dobu málo roků na to, abych měla "nárok" ji zhaftnout, navíc holka, to se nenosilo aby holky měly dílnu v garáži😀
