  • Today on Dead Dodge Garage, we learn that even nice, expensive cars have problems. In this case it’s mostly a mismatch between aftermarket parts. Among other things…

    Stock pushrods are a smaller diameter and the adjustable 273 rockers will work just fine . I know someone who uses them on a car that runs 9.60s ...no kidding. Nice car . I had a 71 340 4spd Duster. Six pack. I miss that car . Enjoy yours

      That’s awesome. Yes, I know they are smaller. I put stock pushrods and rockers back in the car in a later video to fix the clearance issue for now. I used my set of 273 rockers on a different engine or would’ve installed them. I now have a couple rocker shim packs and will go through and fix the spacing on the crane rockers at some point. Have several fluid leaks and a blown up 4 speed to contend with as well…

    Makes me glad I have the stock 340 valve train in mine, but that performance valve train is cool to have with the racing history of your car !

    A lightly dampened vacuum gauge as a valve lash adjustments checker brought me here lol

    Just installed Crane Rockers just like your set on my Solid Roller Mopar 383 build. Had to have push rods made. Learned a lot. Had to also sand a bit behind all of the rockers to clear retainers. But mine has springs on the shaft with skinny little shims I had to install. Awesome car, great video. Just subbed.

      Nice. I’ve seen the setups with springs. I will have another go at getting the Cranes right at some point soon.

      Ouch. If it goes bad this thing is worth spending roller conversion money… but it will hurt

    You need to cut and move shimes to center th push rod . Also check the push rod length that will help clearance going through the head. We build high rpm LA mopars. SK Machine

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I ordered shims to do this at least six months ago. Haven’t gotten around to it, so currently I am running stock 5/16” pushrods and rockers to prevent contact and avoiding high RPM use. The engine needs a reseal and the transmission is shotski, so those are my next moves. I also have an intermittent noisy lifter, so I’m probably going to put a cam and lifters in it at the same time and am strongly considering a roller conversion.

    Chrysler Rocker set ups are kind of Difficult to Set up correctly, nothing against Mopar but the Separate set ups on Chevrolet heads are a lot easier hto set up.
    I prefer the new Jessel Shaft rocker Set up, Jessel has Valvetrain Dialed in , extra Money But actual HP gains on the Dyno and Extremely Reliable.
    Just my thoughts for you!
    Awesome Original 😈 Demon!
    PS don't forget the Zinc additives in your Oil for Flat Tappet Lifters.

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course. Always high zinc. Yes it requires some science to get the rocker setup working right. I’m not ready to invest Jessel money in the top end at this point - I think I will get some shims and get the Crane setup right. It’s running well for street use with factory parts now. But I know I can’t expect the same high rpm stability and I’m not going to test it. Thank you for your input - I appreciate it.

    these rockers are designed for use with bee-hive valve springs

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes sense. The cheapo chinese arms I have for the other car definitely were. Huge interference problems with standard springs. The Cranes had a lot more room.

    I have a p1689 code which is no communication from ecm to vp44 and I’ve checked most wires and grounds all seem to be okay. The truck cranks up and idles no problem can even drive it but it’s dead pedal only goes up to 1300 rpm and it’s either idle or 1300 rpm no incline in pedal or decline

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the symptom you get when there is power to VP and VP is good (or at least kinda good) but communication line from VP to PCM is down. I have snipped that line in the past to diagnose whether it is a dead VP or something else. You get idle or high idle and that’s it. Barely movable. Check wiring from VP into harness, as well as its connector, and if that all checks out OK you either have a failure in that communication circuit inside the VP or inside the PCM. I don’t believe the engine mounted ECM can cause this issue - but I could be wrong. I don’t have diagrams available for these circuits unfortunately.

    • @ixryq8368
      @ixryq8368 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DeadDodgeGarage what line did you snipe and what was the line for? Did you fix your issue? And as far as the wire harness into the vp44 that’s the 9 prong wire connector right? I’m at a loss right now there’s no one on here or on forums that have clearly fixed the problem and I am stuck

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ixryq8368 sorry to leave you hanging, I’ve only just learned I don’t get notifications for comment replies. Our issue was a bad pcm - the truck wouldn’t run until I temporarily cut that communication wire. Then it ran like yours does. So I think your pump is not getting that communication signal and is running in that failsafe mode. Yes, the connector at the pump - 9 pins sounds right, kinda thought it was fewer.

    What about using comp Cam's chronicle Springs

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Conical? The springs in it came with the cam and should be fine for what I’m doing, I imagine.
