Not everyone speaks English. This scenario was quite frequent in my family as I used to live near a border, half of it was from one country the other half from the neighboring country. During family reunions, some members didn't know the other language nor english (the older ones) and they talked to each other in their own language. With the context and gestures they managed to have conversations .

Of all the languages, I was really surprised their European guest spoke French! The biggest part is the German one, but they have a LOT of different dialect that germans from germany can't even understand one bit. Here in the french part, we have a lot of different accent and words depending the part, but we always understand each other (not always the case in the swiss-german parts). Cheers :)

The biggest part is the German one, but they have a LOT of different dialect that germans from germany can't even understand one bit.
