    Love it. Only thing that stops me from building my own system is the use of PVC what isn't resistant to UV-light as well as ecologically harmless. I searched for PP-pipes that are less problematic but even this material emites its particles when exposed to sunlight. I realized that conventinal gardening might be the most harmless and environtment friendly way to grow greens. It's kind of ironic that we use so many plastics in our daily life of which we cannot make sure they're harmless. Anyway I hope I will find a material in the near future which I can use without any doubts to copy this system. Thanks for sharing!

    People! Yes, greate manual craft, great idea, great harvest but PVC? Please do not use PVC pipes for hydroponic. This is worst what you can do. Heat gun, PVC glue, PVC pipes... Toxic compounds are discharged from PVC pipes all the time your plants absorb them, then you eat them. For hydropinic use PP-R pipes those onces are cheap as well and they are designated for fresh, drinking water. If you are using PVC in hydroponic please don't give your plants to eat by your children at least.

Again , good luck on your build. Just add some light and sand down the top pipe so can spin the tower so your can change the plants getting light. At lest that what I’m going to do . I guess using silicone instead of pvc glue allows you to take it apart, pvc glue is permanent.

    • @mr3748
      @mr3748 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some silicone tends to come lose from plactics while in contact with water, most of them are made for more rigid materials such as glass or tiles.
      I would also pvc weld the pipes and fittings which must hold the fluid and friction fit the rest. You could also wrap PTFE Teflon tape around the fitting that you want to to friction fit, this gives you a waterproof seal that you could still take apart

      I recently got the 17qt round tubs for less than $7 each, which is much cheaper than the 6-inch pvc elbows and other parts used here. The tubs are also easier to clean, and I didn't think combining that many plants to one nutritional watering source is a good idea because if it somehow gets contaminated, the plants on all four towers may be lost since they are all connected. Source: hydroponicsspace.com/are-pvc-pipes-safe-for-hydroponics/
    These are considered the most unsafe plastics to use in a system whether it is an NFT or a DWC system. They have a previous history of leaching out toxins into the water and causing a lot of medical hazards.
    Polyester (Type 1)
    -> PVC (Type 3)
    Polystyrene (Type 6)
    Other Plastics (Type 7)
    When you are in the process of purchasing or building a hydroponic system, you better take the right decisions. There are a lot of different aspects that you must consider during the purchase process.
    As I have mentioned before, the plastic-type of your hydroponic pipes or nutrient reservoir is crucial for the survival of your plants. Types 2, 4 and 5 are the best and safest options to use with any hydroponic system.
    High-Density Polyethylene (Type 2)
    Low-Density Polyethylene (Type 4)
    Polypropylene (Type 5)
    Try to avoid using plastics with types 1, 3, 6 and 7 as they are the most harmful types to use.
    Also: Using ABS pipes for hydroponics is not safe as they contain Bisphenol A (BPA).
