One of the things I truly love about aviation and aircraft is how function is so dependent on form. The shape of an airplane is everything - it defines how it will fly. The Bonanza is an amazing example of that. Beautiful - and amazingly capable! Love it!! I have a late model V35B. It is the most precious thing I own.

I had a Straight 35 SN.1325 a later one. It had many A model things such as steerable nose wheel It had the 185 Continental in it, and got about 8 gall per hr. It was very light and would cruise at 135 mph ! Flew her for twenty years and sold her . Such a wonderful airplane the Beech 35!

I wish I could afford one.. I had a Musketeer, and I loved it. I can only imagine how great it would be to have a Bonanza! Thanks for all of the cool pictures!!!

What a successful model. It must be an excellent airplane to keep production over 70 years.

And I'd still like a B36TC with a TAT conversion to TurboNormalized. Oh well, that, and a buck and a half will get me a cup of coffee at the airport diner! That's about as close as I'm going to get right now.
    Thanks ABS from the history.

Every couple of months I’m here again to contemplate this beautiful machine.
Do you know why a few older models, like the A36TC, B36TC and A36, have much higher useful loads than the G36? The turbo is not the answer, cause the 36 is aspirated.
Someone has told me it’s because of noise insulation enhancements, but that difference seems like a lot.

Beginning in the mid-1980s, as a labor and cost-cutting move Beech began using Baron spars, parts of the empennage and other heavier structures on Bonanzas. During this time factory soundproofing and corrosion-proofing was increased, items like standby electrical systems and air conditioning became a common option and eventually standard equipment, the G36's redesigned electrical system required a second (albeit smaller) battery, and more detailed paint schemes and much plusher interiors added weight. These things all add up to a noticeably higher empty weight in the later A36s and G36s than was typical among earlier models and even factory turbocharged Bonanzas.

Alright! Thanks for the quick and informative reply. It’s a pity, though, that that happened. Can you really see the difference in soundproofing and corrosion proofing flying/owning different era Bonanzas? Say a 70’s V35B vs G36. I hope so, to make the tradeoff worth it.

There’s something to be said for 70 years in the Sky I think a V-tail might become my first airplane soon that or a debonair

It is my understanding that the Bonanza is almost a Baron with one engine, so I'm surprised that the Bonanza is almost as fast as the Baron even though the Baron has twice the horse power.

They should've stuck with the V-Tail configuration.
