I was on an LST in the vietnam war, war we had what we called a papa boat that carried troops, supplies, and munitions up the rivers to some our operations. They were about a third of the size of an LCU. Brought back memories!

Well crap. We went to Vieques on an LST in 1970 and had to climb down cargo rope ladders into a landing craft in 4 to 6 foot swells. I remember the chief said, "don't jump, wait for the boat to come up to you." Good times in San Juan later.

I guess that's just how the cookie crumbles??? The guys coming off the boat had to run through water & the new boarding guys had a dry deck, lol. I guess it takes a while to drain the "well", if that's what it's called....how long does it take to dry or fill with water?? Cool vid & THX to all our mil members, your all appreciated.

Be interested to find out in what sea states these can operate .
My old man was WW2 Royal Navy on Assault landing craft and said they tried out a docking ship , he said it was almost impossible to use in any thing approaching a rough sea and unlike the US Higgins he had the advantage of twin engines to manoeuvre with.

    • @Apolloneek

Lee B it can operate up to sea state 3 and 4 it's alot longer and wider then the ww2 boats it holds alot more weight and troops and also operate further out to sea to avoid sea missles

How big does a wave have to be at the crest to allow the tracks of a M-60 tank to lift off the deck 5 inches...we got caught in a storm that had 80 to 100 footers trough to crest..and then 25foot surf.. dropping off Tanks on the beach.. terrifying sea state..

    • @cm-pr2ys
      @cm-pr2ys 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mario Soto Hear this...
We both are fine fighting organizations that have great reputations that we earned, and rich histories that are known worldwide.
We both attract young men with a desire to take the fight to the enemy and act or react aggressively in a combat situation. Look at the LGOP concept, or the fact Marines attack head on into enemy beaches.
We both have higher standards than the regular Army.
We both have to have a higher state of readiness to deploy quicker than the regular Army, and we have our own capabilities of doing so (GRF/ DRB, MEU/ SPMAGTF, etc.)
We both have specialized methods of getting to the fight that require more training and sustainment to effectively employ than what the regular Army goes through (Basic Airborne Course, Scout Swimmer Course, etc.)
We both turn into normal infantry when we hit the ground. This also means that our capabilities that make us what we are are also very niche/ specific, and aren’t going to be used in every situation. That doesn’t mean they should get rid of either of us though.
As a US Marine, I would love nothing more than to train with our Paratrooper brothers, and while your average US Marine and Paratrooper does not have to go through the same hard training and lifestyle as a Ranger, we both are probably the best conventional units the entire US has to offer. The 2nd MarDiv and the 82nd Airborne are both in NC. I see no reason why they can’t make time to detach some elements to meet up once a year at minimum to train and share TTP’s. To share in each other’s knowledge and lessons learned. To break down pre-existing barriers and stop the spread of misinformation by establishing enduring professional and personal relationships for the day we go down range and end up fighting together. If anything, we should both be in a sort of American “Rapid Reaction Corps” like France has. We are more alike than we are different.
By the way, did you know the USMC had it’s own parachute training school at one point, and that we also do not need resupply after three days unlike you Army cats do after dropping in? Semper Fi Brother. I know we always trade banter back and forth but at the end of the day you Paratrooper cats have earned your respect and reputation. It is an honor to stand side by side with the Army and it’s Airborne troopers. Steel sharpens steel.

Well firstly, having silenced weaponry would make them deadlier and less capable of being heard. Just like "Special Forces" lol it doesn't fricking matter anyways, the military can do what it wants.
