I was so pissed off that Douglas died. He was the smartest character in the movie, but the good samaritans had to go and let in someone whose entire backstory reeked of bullshit, while also dwindling their already short supplies. It's the fucking apocalypse, but apparently they still wanted to feel like good people.
I'm surprised you think the idea that a man can in fact survive a bunch of people prying their eyes open is a lot less feasible than a lone pregnant woman somehow stumbling her way through the streets and walking up to their doorstep without any assistance-

What was odd about Gary’s little story was that, he said “they took us outside and forced their eye open” well, if his eyes were closed, then how did he know that they opened the other people’s eyes?
To be fair even though he was evil, you can easily assume that he heard the other yell to open their eyes just as he did with the grandma

1:00 The reason it got so popular is:
1. Covid locking people indoors and leaving us to scour steaming services for anything remotely watchable.
2. The self inflicted deaths along with the plot were eerie and interesting enough to keep people tuned in until the end (along with the memes making us see what the hype was about)
3. The lack of jump scares made this a very entry-level movie into the horror genre that most people would be able to watch without being too creeped out to continue.
I’d like to add that I think another art of Covid that made the movie even more popular is that being locked at home scared of what’s outside made the movie extra immersive. We could all connect with having to live around a contagion anyone could have

maybe it’s because i have no concept of good and bad when it comes to movies, but i actually really enjoyed this movie! i remember loving it, and i was throughly impressed when i finished it .
i did have some questions though :
-why could some people freely walk around even after seeing the monsters (the crazy people) ? are they so traumatized/mentally unstable that the monsters don’t effect them?
I believe this was confirmed somewhere else but I can't be too sure: People who look at the monsters go insane and commit suicide but people who are ALREADY insane are perfectly fine.

I know Malorie was trying not to get attached to the kids so the monsters can’t use them as a weapon against herself but she could have at least given them names. If your parents distance themselves from you (either purposely or accidentally) and then just decide to try bond with you, it is really awkward. It takes years to build up a decent level of trust with a parent who isn’t around a lot. But maybe it might be different because the kids are rather young when she starts to actually try to be a decent parent.

she does gives them name later on in the end so it's alright.
The problem was that she had considered if her motherhood was a mistake at the beginning of the movie. I guess that's why she didn't technically care
They had Tom the whole time and presumably knew about their differences in opinion, it would be hella awkward yes but she seems to realize how wrong she was at the end so I assume she would like talk it out with them

kill count for me isn't just about the numbers, it's a great way to watch a film you otherwise might not be interested in watching or to learn some behind the scenes info for one of your favourite films and most importantly discovering gems in film history I've never heard of (leprechaun for one)
