Thank you so much! I got a great deal on some giant bamboo blinds because the String was broke, I'm so glad it was this easy to fix them. Now they are hanging on my porch. You've made me a proud and productive woman today!
I have had my blinds for 7 years. I clean and seal them about 1 time a year change strings out about every 3 years or so. I use marine boat clean seal. This year the strings needed to be redone. I ordered my string off Amazon and than 🧠 Brain Fog BIG TIME hit. This video saved alot of stress and getting upset also wasted string. Thank you so so much.
Thank you, so clear, my broken string was so long I was able to reuse it - I thought it would be easy just looking at the other blind, it was not., I needed to undo the old sting and start from the beginning!!! What would we do without TH-cam and kind people like you?
Wanted to let you know how very helpful this was. We were able to restring a bamboo blind from the 1970's that was acquired from a great-grandparent's home and sat, rolled up on a garage floor for several years. Thanks!
Thanks! I love my cheap matchstick bamboo blinds. Not sure I could even replace them anymore. Your stringing instructions were sooo helpful! BTW, I found something called 'Venetian Blind Cord, 1/8 in Diam, braided cotton over a synthetic core' for 9-cents/ft at my local hardware store. It is great for these old blinds.
This video is wonderful! I knew there was a way to restring my blinds and couldn't figure it out on my own. I'm glad I can save the planet by simply restringing. Thanks much!
Thank you very much. This was very useful. I wasn’t sure how much of string I needed. Now I know that you need not know at first but will know after you have done. ❤
Thx so much! This was a great easy to follow tutorial. I used 550 paracord and will likely never have to restring my bamboo blind again as the cord will no doubt outlive the blind 😁👍
Yeah, I think the paracord will outlive the blinds! The first couple of blinds I did have been up for four years now, with no sun damage whatsoever! I'm happy this helped you!
I have 6 or 7 blinds to fix. How do YOU determine the length needed? Take all the cord out of a blind and measure first? Many thanks for your super helpful video about fixing the cords. ❤
Thank you for your comment. I do not measure the cord beforehand. If you follow the method in my video, you only need to cut the cord at the end, so determining the length is part of the process. The original cord was too damaged by the sun to take it out as a whole. I had some wasted cord with the first two blinds when I cut it beforehand. So, I used the specific method to minimise wastage and remove the guesswork. I hope it helps!
Thank you for your video. I've been searching for the hardware for this type of blind and can't find it anywhere ! I have purchased new blinds that are twice as long as I need them and want to use the lower half for more windows of the same sizes. So far I can only find small pulleys that will at least work well enough, but would much prefer to use the correct hardware. If you happen to know where I might find this hardware, I'd love to find out !
This video made it very easy for me to restring my blinds. Thanks! What I'd like to know...is it possible to purchase the hardware to make this type of blind? I'd love to make some fabric ones but cannot find the hardware anywhere. I understand there's safety issues with cords, perhaps that's why the hardware is no longer available. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks in advance! Zoë
Hi Zoe. I've also been struggling to find the exact hardware. Amazon has similar items though, that should work. Just search for blind pulley system - and remember you need one standard pulley and one with a cord lock.
The viewer can’t see the stringing of the cord on the right pulley because the camera is too far away. There are two pulleys, and the viewer can’t see how the cord is strung.
I am sorry you feel that way. So many people find this video very helpful. You can always head over to the full post on the blog, where I have diagrams to help you figure out how to feed the string through the pulleys. I hope it helps.
Found this video after MUCH frustration. Absolutely top notch: accurate and easy to follow!

FYI - I believe I bought these at Home Depot … if that matters.

Grazie mille per l'aiuto anche se in alcuni passaggi es. 3 e 4 non è facile capire cosa fare. Non è possibile avere sottotitoli in italiano !😢
