【Introduction】Zhang Yixing as Youth Producer Presentative! This mens' team reality show follows the competion rules of Idol Producer. 100 boys are selected from their agencies or trainees' companies to take part in the competition. In the following four months, they will undergo closed-door training. In the end, after voting, nine boys will be selected to form a new idol men's team and debut. The debut team is called UNINE.

I liked the fact that Lay was honest and strict in judging the abilities of the contestants. I am not really in favor of judges saying flowery words instead of saying directly to the contestants that they still have to practice more.

shinisoi _ the8/minghao is a dance instructor on the show but mingming (one of the contestants) was nearly a member of seventeen, he left before the8 arrived in pledis
Mingming left before Minghao joined the group so they never had any connections..It's gonna be more emotional if Jun is there as a Mentor coz Jun and Mingming were quite close.

Lay knew the pressure of being an idol. He knew it the most. Remember, he trained for many years in one of big agency in South Korea. He has the rights to said those words. The truth sometimes might be painful but those kids need it so they don't underestimate the job as an idol
Respect for PD Lay for being honest and straight to the point to those trainees. Everything he said was true. Some thinks this show is as an opportunity to famous in just 4 months even with less experience. Imagine those who really worked hard for years to be an idol who really dreamed of being an idol or be in a group and not just to be popular or famous. He is by far the best youth producer for me out of all the idol producer or produce 101 korean&chinese versions. And as i finished watching this season (I got bored in the middles but still finished watching) and the lastest one ryt now in iQIYI, season 1 is the BEST. You can really feel everyone is genuine and their fire to reach their dream of being on stage. Just a bit sad that Nine Percent lack promotions during their time...

I think it's important to note that Yixing isn't really getting upset with the trainees, but more the companies. These companies are pushing trainees (who are often now literal children) to do things that are trendy but beyond their skill level, natural abilities, or their ability to learn.
Please remember as you hear his comments the story he shared last season: he was part of 100 trainees, who were cut down and down until 24 remained. Then every month for a year one trainee was cut until the original OT12 of EXO remained. We know that Baekhyun and Chen only trained for 3ish months, so we know Yixing does not discredit the natural abilities of some trainees. But BaekChen are an exception, and people with trainee times like Yixing or even 7-year trainee Suho are more of the rule.
Last season he also was upset that trainees cared more for dance than singing, rightly criticizing them for believing looking cool and having that one skill was enough. He is right again this season to be upset that trainees are focusing (by their own choice or their company's) on hiphop/rap. Just like he said last season: they are SINGERS first and foremost. Being able to at least carry a tune is an essential skill they all need. Even outside of it being essential: think of the number of times in idol groups a rapper suddenly starts singing and fans LOSE it. Why would you NOT want to have that same reveal go viral for yourself?
TL;DR Yixing knows what he's talking about and has a right to be angry at companies pushing inexperienced and under-qualified trainees onto IP.

I will always stand by the fact that Xu Minghao was the softest and one of the best mentors in the history of Idol a Producer! He did so well and was the right amount go gentle and critical to help all the trainees thrive!

The mentor lineup for this season was really good I miss them 😭 And let’s take a moment to appreciate my boy Casper. To this day I still think he deserved and A.

Aiweq I get that but there were some trainees who had trained for years and in not opinion had some better performances that deserved an A than some of the people that got an A in the first season. For example, Casper, who had trained years before coming to the show and had even debuted in Korea.

@@aiste601 I think you may want to add "some". PD Lay did mention in any interview that in his point of view, most trainees will have to rank F, only allowing some B, C, D. Though I believe this is true, doesn't mean our trainees aren't comparable as last season because some trainees in last season are also equally as bad. If you want to compare with Korea version, I believe more than half in season 1 gonna rank F also. But perhaps more B than C & D. B rank is for trainees that can do both sing and dance and stable, count how many of them in s1 can do this.
i wish they had put lay in the show for season 2.. he truly was iconic
This was quite messy, near the ending where Lay lost his temper and went off about one of the group performances disrespecting the stage his frustration was so understandable. Being a performer, being an idol is not an easy thing or something you can pick up just because you feel like it. It starts with passion, progresses with passion, and ends with passion.
I wouldn't expect like great performances right away from the fresher trainees but I just couldn't see the passion in any of their performances. Like sure you ain't great at singing we can fix that. Ain't great at dancing? We can fix that. What we can't fix your attitude and discipline.
You can't always expect your coaches to be the one to facilitate your growth, it has to start from you yourself. They're only meant to help you in your journey.

I agree with you, as I've observed Lay been a producer (during the season wer "nine percent" been born and this season of "unine") and Tao been a producer too (during the season wer "rocket girls 101" been born and this still on going season of chuang 2020) they're both straight forward,i even saw them got angry. I saw tao shouted in both seson first he shouted and he even walk out because the trainees don't even help their co trainee who fell down while running oh my hard to explain but i guest u knew what i mean then the second he shouted because the trainee keeps on crying and being a coward. Same to Lay both season. For me,Nothing's wrong, that's the reality. The real battle is more hard harsh cruel than that, the real word wer they hav to face the reality of being an idol. Lay and Tao are both idols for how many years with EXO, they knew what they're doing, they'll never be this far wer they are right now if they don't know anything, they've been through alot and still surviving in that kind of industry. They'll never get them as a producer for nothing.. Oh my sorry for my english. Just disappointed to those people commenting about them, they don't deserve bad comments, trainees just got lucky of having them as a producer who are straight forward and teach them what and how the reality can be, in real world real battle is a hundreds of hardship they can face. Trainees doesn't need flowery words or too much praise because in reality this is not. I salute Lay and Tao for being such a great producer. Being such a straight forward is much better for trainees for them to be stronger braver and mor motivated
His temper was understandable cause if he didn't pick on them from the start they'll continue with their lousy style.... We're not artist's so we don't have a point judging them but yixing being one and a senior one on top makes him eligible and totally right to criticise them .

I came back because I love the boys so much in this season too. I was here for UNIQ's Wenhan and then fell more for other Yuehua's boys. I mean, Yangyang is such an awkward baby. 🥺 And then more trainees on this show came for my heart. They were all so adorable and this season was quite heartwarming. 💖 Sure the first season was great and funny; I also adore them cause nongnong is my one pick but this season was also great to me. Sad that it wasn't as popular as the first season since not a lot of people knew this season exist.

Tbh I didn't really enjoy this season compared to ip. Maybe it's just me, but not many people particularly stand out, probably because they've trained for such a short time. It makes me sad because if some trainees from ip came to this season instead, they would shine. I fell in love with so many of them and I guess my expectations were too high for this season. Also, I've realized that yixing makes perfect sense when he went off and got mad. To fill the 100 trainees quota, also cause ip was so popular, lots of people probably just came or were sent from their company casually. They don't really have respect for the stage and all the work it takes to become an idol. Most probably assume that those 4 months would easily shape them into super popular idols. It also has to do with China's lack of understanding when it comes to idols. I can see why yixing initially rejected going to we are young after the experience of qing chun you ni.
In summary, this season was kinda boring and I mostly came to see yixing and the interactions between the mentors.
oh!! I feel the same way, I thought that if other trainees came here they will shine. How hardworking our IP trainees back in the days.

Hana Orihara youth with you season 2 should have got zhang pd again. I got disappointed when they used cai Chu kun as pd, seriously that. T deputed like a year or two and he lacks abilities, kun just praised most of the contestants and was very lenient.
Wasn't there another female season that came before the 2020 version? Y'know, the season that was infamously known because the girls had terrible makeup during their opening "pick me" song? I think that was also the season where Rocket Girls 101 was formed
EDIT: wait, nevermind. I just looked it up. Turns out Rocket Girls 101 were actually formed on "Produce 101 China", a spinoff of Korea's Produce series and is a completely different show from Youth With You/Idol Producer

Honeybaby they did offers to Zhang yixing but he is too busy, crash with his another reality show with crz-2 am the song-writer (brilliant show); and with street dance china so he decline. the only reason why he is in We are young (the new boy idol on air atm) is because he doing youku a favor so i read somewhere. he is not a PD this time, only behind the scene mentor to support the trainee and guide them for a better performance. now is episode 2, coming out every friday in youku- so far is very good and all trainee are super professional. worth to watch. what you said i also 100% agree with you.
@@kimchicupnoodles you don't have the right to criticize , his experience and prefossionalism speaks louder than his age or debuted years , he Has given a lot of comments but just because he wasn't rude or yelling like lay did , doesn't mean he isn't a good PD , ywy2 didn't show the whole performances and comments so how could you know . Just because Kun PD has a calm personality doesn't mean he isn't good, plus they are girls and as he said in the beginning he wished to outline Thier flaws and give them feedback without hurting Thier mental health . Saying that he was not as good as Zhang PD is kinda disrespectful , just because they have different personalities and mentoring ways doesn't mean one is good and one is bad

Yea,,,,i personally had a problem with this season's editing and stuff,,,,there was talk on weibo of the competition being rigged,,,,but I think the cast was better than season 1, but you really had to know where to look for the good clips
Sarah Lam dude was the voting actually rigged? I remember a crap ton of trainees dropped in the last ep and I was really pissed that the person I voted for dropped like 6 places and didn’t even make the final lineup^^
@@mochiireni1111 That's the rumour yea :// and it didn't even just apply to the final lineup. Che Huixuan and Ye Ziming dropped like 15 ranks or smth during the 60 to 35. Apparently for the Concept Evaluation stage, the voting box for "Time" was hidden away in a corner so people couldn't vote for it. The show was airing around the time China was implementing laws on their entertainment, halfway through the show you'll notice the cuts are really strange like there will be people talking but they're not shown on screen. That's because in the middle of the show airing China implemented a law that men couldn't be shown on television with coloured hair, tattoos or piercings. Something about preserving masculinity 🙄. This is just my theory, but many of the people who dropped suspiciously were probably those exhibiting "feminine" behaviour. Che Huixuan and a whole bunch of others seemed to have gotten cut because they were covering girl group dances in some of the unaired clips, and Huixuan specifically revealed in a fanmail video (while the show was airing) that he used to be a male fan of Xu Minghao.
So yea, I think it was rigged, but it could also be a coping mechanism since almost none of my picks made it to the top 35 ._.

I love this season a lot but I have always felt that the center was determined from the beginning. Don't get me wrong, I adore Wenhan very much and he did well at the center but Huaiwei showed even more charisma. The worst thing is that IQiyi did not focus much on him (in the theme song) despite he was an A... And that was something that could help him stay in the top 9
Even lian huaiwei lost to changxi in dance position, how can he beat wenhan.. Duh

Lay being disappointed at the contestants/trainee? I completely understand. They have to produce a group that is full of potential not just a so called group. Also, he is an idol himself, if you auditioned make sure that you give all your best and make sure that the chance that you have must be used wholeheartedly.
