- I've had the Pixel Fold for a few weeks now and I've gotten past the initial "Wow, this is cool!" phase and gotten a little deeper into living with it. While there's a lot to like here, it's not all peachy.

After adding the 14 beta I definitely noticed a difference in battery life. I love my S23 Ultra, and even with small hands I couldn't get used to the z fold series.
I have the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 and had it since launch (August 27th, 2022) and had no issues with mine. Definitely will say the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 is more durable than the Google Pixel Fold. Look at the JerryRigEverything video the Google pixel fold bends completely in half. I would also say the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 software is a better experience than the Google Pixel Fold. The Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 is brighter too. I'm not saying I don't like the Google pixel fold. I'm glad there's competition on Samsung now. Now Samsung can't be lazy. At least I hope now anyway.

Nah. Not no z fold 3. Pixel have a much better experience. Customization is the only thing Samsung 3 and 4 have over the pixel fold. Really the 5 too.
i had this phone for 1 day and returned. in car for example using navigation is pain... my 33 w charger couldn't top off battery draining, mind you phone getting super hot charging😅, also that hinge why they couldn't make one so it opens flat? also in bright daylight both screens hard to see compared to Samsung fold . this phone should be @ 1000 max priced
I had my Z fold 3 2 years now on the shelf my new Pixel Fold running Android 14 beta is a battery beast 7 hours on screen and Google only software nice plus google built VPN . The best pictures ever camera software killer. The fastest apps opening on Android 14 also.
Here we go!! 😂 I did buy a fold again... but I got a steal $575 on a new fold 3. I am good with this. Only using it for rewatching how my boys do In football and editing
Loving my pixel fold and the battery life has been great for me. I use if as my daily driver.
You didn't mention if your Pixel Fold is on the andriod 14 beta but I can say battery life has been specifically addressed there, making quite a noticeable difference.
Also battery saver is feature, I don't feel it should be viewed as a weakness.

It doesn't suck for me I like mine. Yes I wished a few things were different but it's far from sucking for me.
Mine is also great running Android 14 beta using standard battery I'm getting 7 hours on screen time up day and half before charging like Tech reviewer J Williams.
I am enjoying the Pixel Fold.
I just got a like new pixel Fold and I'm getting 10 hours screen time using the inner display and 100 hour standby on WiFi. Very impressed indeed and thr other day i got 8 hours from 7am to 12pm
I have the 6... My screen lamination coating started coming off in 2 weeks when I didn't have a screen protector. In my opinion pixels def need it. Assuming you care about your screen not always looking damaged
Had I phone hated it went Z Fold 4 loved it but screen broke looked at trading to a Z Fold 5. Saw Pixle fold switched to it instead, best decision on phones I ever made. Your review was fair and balanced, but imho you really do not appreciate how great fold phones are. I got many compliments on my Z fold 4, but the pixel fold is way better.

Your angst with battery saver is a delight to watch
Just a note if you're watching this in 2024: On the positive side, updates have "fixed" the issue with apps not fully spanning the inner display (the apps are still not properly designed for a foldable phone, but at least, like on a Samsung or OnePlus foldable, they span the screen now). Also updates have helped extend the battery life a bit. On the negative side, lots of Google's new AI features have skipped the Pixel Fold for the Pixel 8 Pro and, amusingly, soon Samsung S24 series and ::gasp:: the Z Fold 5 (still wrapping my head around the fact that Google "exclusive" AI features are available for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 but not Google's own folding phone...).

I got mine 900 no trade in Att have my Z FolD 3 now 2 years old on the shelf, I'm running Andriod 14 beta beast mode getting almost 8 hours screen on time. Love the different software with the call AI plus the google VPN very nice. I've taken the best pictures of any Fold made the camera software is killer. Also J.Williams getting the same there's big improvements with Android 14 beta JT . I don't agree had mne almost 2 months . Mine is charging about 1 hour and 20 mins when under 20 percent it's has 30 watt charging which I have a 30 and 65 watt chargers using both.

Thanks and a good look at the phone. Yeah we all kind of knew it wasn't going to be very good battery life with the G2 processor in there cuz we all have a 7 or 7 pro and it's just okay so with that big screen, kind of knew the battery wasn't going to be good.
Anyway, I still might have gone for it but Google was only giving me $320 for my pixel 7 pro so I'm just going to wait for the eight now.
I would score the Pixel Fold at 4.5 out of 5. The only flaw is it should be brighter in the direct sunlight and better App Optimization. Battery Life is normal for a 2 in 1 Foldable phone because it has 3 screens with the inner screen working as 2 screens that can give you a larger screen experience. No Foldable will give you a day in a half or 2 day Battery life that you can get with the Iphone 14 Pro Max. At keast not yet. All Foldable Brand makers should consider making their phones thicker not thinner. No phone in 2023-2024 should have less than a 6000 mAh battery in it. I Love my Phones to be Thicker. It feels more Premium. Lightweight like the Z Fold 5 feels cheap and the materials are cheaper if its lighter.
I dumped my Z Fold 5 for my Pixel Fold. I use the 5 as a backup.
I know... It's cool but definitely sucks, however I miss it still! I've have it twice😅 but now just waiting till either the next pixel fold or the fold 6. Depends which one is best! Now I'm back to a slap phone and I'm starting to itch! Miss my fold

This phone is definitely not worth £1800 first of all battery is rubbish also doesnt even support s pen also apps dont even open full screen on the inner display. I have a folding phone which costs £900 and it supports s pen

@@MrK1976 sure I'll be glad to share, for starters the smaller and wider outer screen is useful and a nice experience. Now that's about the only selling point in my opinion. The inner screen is great but useless when every single app has huge black bars, unacceptable for the parents of Android to release a phone that cannot run apps full screen. It wasn't a big deal at first but after 2 months I'm over it and the initial purchase excitement has grown very dim. The inner screen is not as durable as ZFold. I never had a single issue with my Zfold 3/4. Just this morning I heard a metallic crunch noise when folding my screen and now I have a bump in the center where the screen folds. I'm guessing I have a few days to weeks before it completely breaks. The modem is horrendous, it uses so much battery trying to keep a weak signal and gets very hot from the back. The software is not ready for a fold with Google, trying to customize wallpapers etc doesn't work as expected or as well as on Samsung phone. This was a solid first attempt by Google but should have rested in the R&D dept for at least another 6 months to a year. Also, I hate the bezels. I may be alone on this but I'll die on that hill, it looks cheap. Hold one in the store okay around with it but go back a few times and in a 2 weeks span before purchasing especially if your trading a phone. I wish I could have my Z Fold 4 back, I'm now debating how to offload this phone through my carrier or just purchase another one cash. Good luck hope this helps and apologies to be so negative but it's true. If you make a fold phone at least make it to fold flat lol

@@jayko23 I've been with the same carrier for 14 years. I get a corporate discount and I'm happy with the service. I've never felt trapped. Also if I really wanted to leave I can afford full price for the phone, I just love a deal
@jayko23 he'll be crazy if he got locked in with that piece of crap of a phone. The apps aint optimized for it, to say it's Google and they own the playstore. The g2 chip is on par with the snapdragon 888 that came 2 or 3 yrs ago

Putting the tensor 2 (Exynos) in a phone like that, was a shame, that's the only reason I didn't buy
The Tensor 2 could be better, being made by Samsung, but Google has done wonders with it, helped by Android 14, and now it is a battery beast, getting 9 hours plus SOT on average. The thermals have been suppressed, and performance for ML/AI, which is what the Pixel experience is all about, is the best. The nature of Samsung-made chips is that one chip may be great, and the person next to you may have one that sucks. Luckily, I got a good one.
FWIW, if we all looked at the Pixel Fold and said it is version 1, beta and likely to have issues, so let us all give it a pass, then Samsung would own you, and we would have the Galaxy Fold 22 looking much like it does now. So, those who do not whine, get on with it, fingers and toes crossed, and enjoy the Pixel journey, hoping by supporting the underdog rather than being sensible and buying the Galaxy, we may see innovation and choice thanks to our effort.
Thankfully, there appear to be many Pixel Fold owners out there, and we hope the world will be bigger than Samsung in the future, even if, as it appears, many techies are happy with Samsung killing rivals and being a one-man US show.
Z fold 5 for the win!
Its odd...on one hand its a way better 1st attempt then the original fold on the other hand they have had years to study and learn from all the foldables released since then and in that regard its pretty sub par. Not to mention using last years mid range tensor chip in it and still charging fold 5 money? Not the best decision there, i agree with your assessment which is why i have a fold 5😊
Wait till the hinge breaks and Samsung will blame you for it. They want me to pay 600 Euro in Germany. Had my fold 4 for 6 months when that happened.

Fair and balanced review. If it wasn't for the battery life I would be tempted. There may be hope as every Pixel I've owned has had perhaps 30% more endurance after 6 months than it had at launch.
My battery lasts about 15 hours ?

The chances of getting a buggy device is just way too high. That’s why you see so many complaints about the pixel 6 and 7 series then there’s that one guy that’s like “mine works just fine”

Finger print sensor is great. Everything about this phone is dope. I do miss the customization i had in the z fold

I haven’t really tested it. Seems ok to me, but I wear a watch so those buzzes are what get through to me.

Wrong I had my Z fold 3 2 years and the Pixel has better front screen and other software experience Andriod 14 beta different from Samsung maybe no S pen but the best pictures 90 to 100 percent of the time camera software no blurry pictures from slow camera shutter. Now running Android beta 14 almost 2 days battery life. 7 hours on screen time. The fastest app opening and closing also.
Pixel Fold 2 should be out in 5-6 Months

Scratch on this one is way sensitive. I don't do anything on the inside screen and i have scratches on the bezel.
After a software update on day 2 of Ownership. I get through a 8 hour shift and have 55% battery. 12 hour shift and i can have 40% battery life. Most people won't be on their phone their entire work shift. Now if youre on Vacation then you will need a Portable Battery Pack incase.
DID THAT LAST WEEK FLEW 4 HOURS TO MIAMI WATCHING MOVIES STILL HAD 45 PERCENT BATTERY PICKING up MY RENT-A-CAR
I'm only subscribed to you from way back in the day. I never like the changes you made towards the initial channel. I never like the changes that you made to the style of your videos. I've only seen this video because I am heavily dedicated to watching all the reviews on the Pixel fold so your video popped up in my timeline I should say The last time I saw your video was when the iPhone 7 or 8 came out in red and I was the one that told you mines was named Betty. That's how long I've been here. I missed the old retro style of your videos. Not this half baked logo of MKBHD or this hipster style way intro and some of you reviews are not accurate enough. You go by your opinion and fat and you're judgmental towards a phone or product. And you nitpick and I don't like nitpicking. It's so antiquated in my book so it's whatever

It just makes it so that the buyer that's interesting in it like I am not worth it. And I'm going to tell you right now the phone is worth it. I also know like I said that you have a carrier model of the phone. Every phone has a model. Every model that was sold to the carriers is not the final model. Like I said, go to a Google store or go to Google and buy one. You'll see the initial difference. My battery life is outstanding. My fingerprint sensor is amazing. You nitpicked a carrier model. Proof that I know it's not 1 minute 35 timestamp Google's version of the phone has the UK/CA marker on the back of the phone the CE logo and do not trash logo along with the model number it represents there can be bad batches of phones that are sent out and like I said you got a bad batch. I hear if you get very unlucky and get a piece of grit or sand right there in that crevice you will completely brick the display. Careful going I guess, because it doesn't seem like one has to get all that unlucky for this fate to happen.
I would suggest the story of all folds ATM as none are dust-resistant, so get grit there and good luck saving the display.
That's actually retarded. That "may" have happened once (if that wasn't something just put out there by Samsung) but we have not one other case where that has happened.
Wrong Jerry Rig Everything pored sand between the in display the Pixel Fold no problem . I also had my Z Fold 3 2 years take to beach allot gotten in sand a few time just rinse off fine.
Yeah I can't agree with that because I have taken mine to the beach as well as other outside events, got sand on it as well taken videos with waves hitting me with this phone, either I'm very lucky or this phone is more durable than you think it is.
Great review but this demand of perfection right off the bat by people is really going to drive phone prices up
I've had this for about a month. Coming from iphone for over a decade. Absolutely love it. It's perfect for what i need. Battery life is meh but i can manage and rhe face unlock is horrible when not in lit areas but fingerprint is amazing.
I'd probably give it 4-4.5 but I'm sure a lot of that is from leaving iOS...and experiencing Google

Here's the honest review
I've had this phone three times and out of all three times I did not have poor battery life. Now I know you got yours from a carrier because all the carrier models have a build number and all their build numbers are the same. All carrier models have the worst fingerprint sensor. There is on that phone not to mention the battery life. Now I have the 512 model from Google and I do not have poor battery life. My fingerprint sensor is absolutely amazing and just to be clear on that I can just tap it one time and it works now. Facial recognition as a unlock feature is not a secure feature, so it will not work in the dark for that particular model again for the carriers, but it will reliably work for the Google model phones now. If you don't believe me, go buy one from Google and test it out for one week and you'll see the difference
