Once you know the areas you can hunker down and funnel enemies into, lancer becomes incredible. Also the heavy assault rifle, I forget the exact name, is a really good heavy weapon. It's basically a big pulse rifle. It doesn't fire as fast as the smartgun but it chews through enemies way faster if you can land your shots and I think also has better efficiency with it's ammo consumption.
