NCT since debute is a group that's meant for endless growth so basically they have & will keep debuting members which will create more units. NCT or NCT U (rotational unit, all members of NCT from any unit can participate in any project depending on who fits the concept) debuted with five members. NCT 127 debuted seven members which included three from NCT U. NCT Dream debuted seven as well, including two from 127. All three units debuted in 2016 just months a part from each other so we had 14 members at the end of the year. In 2017 we had 15 because a new face was added to the 127 unit. In 2018 three more members debuted through NCT U making it 18. One of the members was added to 127 and the other two were added to a whole new unit that debuted in 2019, WayV. In WayV we have seven members but we already knew four of them from the 2016, 127, & 2018 U debut so in 2019 we had 21 members. In 2020 two new members debuted they currently don't have a unit yet so they're just in NCT U. Across all units we currently have 23 members. Keep in mind every member is automatically in NCT U when they debuted. The members that debuted through U are eventually added to an existing unit or form a new one with new members & we will see that yet again in 2023 with the current two non-unit members. They are already promoting three new rookies so their's rumors those three will be in a new unit with the other two & many think it will be a Japanese unit. That's another reason for NCT to be limitless their goal is to have a unit everywhere like WayV (Chinese sub-unit) that mostly promotes in China there will be a Japanese unit that focuses on Japan there's also been said of an American unit. NCT'S goal is to expand worldwide. Think of it as NCT being the brand, the brand has multiple sub-units, some of those units share members & NCT U is the unit where all members meet up.
