That was fun to watch. That buck looked right up at you. He wanted to be TH-cam famous! LOL. Tough luck that he was on the wrong side of the tree. Better luck next time. Have a great day.
Great encounter my friend
Thanks for taking us with you!
Wow, what an encounter! I appreciate your positive outlook.
Awesome deer on public and to get it so close was great.
Been in your shoes before. It happens especially trying to self film.
Looking fwd to the next video.
Man that's a tough one. When the tree you pick is so good that it's too good.... Sorry you didn't get a shot. I love hunting PA mountains no matter what. Shot or not, you're right. It's a blessing to be able to get out and do what we do.
You are so correct about counting your blessings💯
Great video that’s hunting
Great encounter on some public land looking forward to the next one
What a great encounter. I had a similar issue when the buck at 10 yards decided to change direction and go to the weak side. Just like you said I am just appreciative to be out there and having the encounters, yes a harvest would be great however that's just the icing and challenge to fooling a mature buck. Keep enjoying and SHARING your PASSION!
Thrilling encounter with a dandy buck. You were so close, and I know how frustrating that is! Great hunt!
Nooooo! What a lucky buck. Great stuff!
One of those days, Dave. Great footage all the same and enjoyable viewing. 👍🏻
I appreciate you watching 👍
Great hunt buddy
That Was Exciting! God Bless Dave See Ta on the Next one!!
I appreciate you watching Tony 👍
so close, so impressive!
Can't wait to see what happens next. I'm enjoying your season so far. Keep the great hunting videos coming and good luck!
Oh, man, Dave. That was so close. Great footage.
Thank you 👍
Great encounter with that nice buck, he sensed you when you moved to press record. It’s tough to hunt and get that footage on film for everyone to see. You will get him next time, Dave.
This is why it's called hunting
So stinking close. Hang in there Dave. Maybe next time bud. Thanks for sharing.
Wow that was exciting. Things happen when we self film you do a great job of it.
I appreciate the encouragement 👍
I don't know that everyone understands how tough it can be to film, do TH-cam, and still hunt/fish. Great job making it work. Fully enjoyed the video.
I call it a gratitude list and I work on it all the time. The good thing is you've already realized how good your life is at an early age and life gets better every day once that light bulb comes on., So glad you shared the hunt then combined it with the most important lesson anyone/ everyone needs to learn. In my 50 plus years of hunting I know what you where feeling for days after that missed opportunity. Many others know it too. Avoid what makes us upset or gets under our skin, focus on the positive, funny, and mostly work to be grateful every minute, THEN spread it. Thank you brother! Keep 'em coming.
Ouch!!!!
Great video buddy. I have had them come in like that before my self and look up at me and take off like that. Those big bucks have a sixth sense about themselves. Can’t wait to see your next video buddy.
Man, I feel your pain. Looked like a really great buck. Looking forward to your next episode.
I appreciate you watching 👍
Dude so close , I was rooting for you . He was a good public buck. I feel your pain with the record button.
Looked straight up at you
Awesome hunt!!! Things rarely work perfectly for me either😂. I really like your attitude check, I’m gonna use that👍
Oh Man! I thought you were going to shoot for sure. I guess the brush was just too thick. Very exciting hunt. Dave, your production value is getting very good, even when you forget to push the record button. We'll just call it buck fever.
Been one of those seasons.. plenty of time left
Great encounter Dave that is definitely a tough one to slip by but you know it's all part of the game sometimes and you add self filming and it adds another element of difficulty to the whole thing keep at it and it will all come together.
Awesome encounter, Dave! It can be SO frustrating self-filming and trying to get the shot off, but I applaud your attitude adjustment by simply being thankful for everything that you did right and for being able to be out in God's creation. 👍🏼
great exciting hunt Dave. What made him look up?
What a really cool hunt Dave! Public Land usually means days of hunting (and hard hunting at that) before you see a really mature buck let alone have one come in at 5 yards! Well done and thanks for taking us along!
Think he's seen a guy in a tree once or twice before.
It must be really hard to film while hunting although I really enjoy watching the footage and that was a great encounter. I am looking forward to the next hunting video
I wonder what spooked that deer! Great to see your location although it’s unfortunate it didn’t work out! Thanks for sharing
I love the Hawk sticks. There's just really no reason to get into those high dollar ones when those will accomplish everything you want to do with them.
I use them as well! Much better experience than I had with fixed steps Novix mini’s.
Did you make a video on that CamoJoJo cellular camera?
Great Public Land Hunt Dave, not sure what caused that Buck to spook but at least you had a cool encounter and you’re out there doing what you love. Keep after em .
Man thats a heart brake right there.. I'll be honest with you, that's a big reason I switched to a stand. The only week side visually and shooting is directly behind you. I set up where I plan the deer to come so it's either straight in front or to my right or left. I've heard the argument that it's better to hide behind the tree with a saddle but I've been picked up from the saddle and have seen others as well. To me, higher is better than hiding behind the tree imo. I don't know if you use an aider but maybe get a Nader to use to climb and it will give you an extra 18-20" for each step.... I know the frustration for sure.. this past week I had my target buck within 120yds and he just decided to leave and go the other way. I was pretty down since it's the first time in daylight I've seen him. But last night I had to have an attitude adjustment myself and started thanking God for what you said, even the ability to do this fun activity is reason enough... but it sure would be the cherry on top to get a beast like what you nearly got. Looking forward to the next video. Although a week is a long time to wait. I think you should post Sunday and Wednesday hunts for your fans! 😂 Great stuff!!
Deer or not this was a great hunt , it Sums up my early archery season perfectly, I had 3 bucks do this to me this season, but you just have to shake it off and get back to it.
How's she gon'? Wow that was exciting eh. I thought you had him but, like you say, he passed on the wrong side of your tree. Good that you handled it the way you did. There'll be another day eh!! LOL Take 'er easy!!!
Tough break! Those things definitely happen; I had a similar encounter myself on November 15th. What was the date of that encounter?
Yeah, that would make you sick. When I have things like that happen, I count my blessings, but I also look at it from the animals point of view. The animal won a bigger prize, they escaped with their life, free to live another day. It always made me feel better seeing it that way. You had an awesome encounter and the deer was able to go about his day. Until you meet again!
Its amazing how those big bucks use every piece of available cover to walk behind in the direction they are travelling. That is a tough one, but still a great hunt and perfect spot location. Just curious.... how high up were you in your tree? Best of luck
You’re right! I was approximately 18’ high.
I appreciate you watching 👍
The 360 cam saves the day for video evidence. It's definitely a struggle self filming. Soooo close. Did that buck have a white nose?
I will never understand archers who have bright colors on their bows, under the tree canopy too. No, the deer don't see colors as we do but the contrast between light & dark are easily spotted, especially when in motion, as you were when repositioning for a shot.
That buck would have been a nice one for sure. Thanks for sharing your hunt.
I appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts/advice 👍
Damn so close, deer seem do opposite of what we would think they will do. But hey not bad for first time on public land. And yes we tend to cop an attitude when things don't work out but as you say attitude adjustments do help. Can't wait till the next video, Dave you and your family have a great thanksgiving be safe and as always HTTM. QUESTION what is your truck ?
That's tough... Great video, I enjoyed it and thanks for the honesty! Deer hunting is serious but then again it's not... Only hunters will understand that...
i have a hard enough time hunting with no camera, i cant imaging juggling that too
The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation has ruled that I am not allowed to participate in archery season. 😂😂😂😂.
It definitely is hard to self film yourself and get a mature buck!
Man use a ring of steps where you can move around the tree. But get em next time
Good advice. Thanks for watching! 👍
Everyone is on the saddle fad, but they severely restrict you. Stay with treestands!! A little bit more weight but worth the weight in gold. Ditch the saddle and get a Lone Wolf hang on.
He got busted playing with a camera in a tree with no cover
Ring of steps.. walk around the tree. Missed a nice deer cause he saw me lift my bow over my saddle... never again. hide behind tthe tree
U need to wear gloves. Years ago a friend was hunting down the ridge from me. He didn't wear gloves. I could see ever move he made at over 300yards. Could see his hands plain as day. I always wear gloves know.
To much screwing around with the camera to kill the deer. I will never film a hunt for this reason.
Self filming definitely adds tremendous challenges! Thanks for watching. I appreciate it 👍
Put the camera away and hunt. You could have got a nice buck.
It is costly at times but it’s a challenge I’m willing to accept. I appreciate you watching 👍
