    I feel like KDP Amazon has been great for me. Once I create more books (only one so far), I might venture into other options.
    I have a rhyme/picture book. A keepsake kind of style. Free on Kindle Unlimited for UK. Would love to get some hits there, and see how the rhymes fall across the pond. Title is Good Dream Kiss.
    Jules is one of the first YT channels I began watching before my book. Just her charisma alone has been such an inspiration to newbies like me.
    If I can do it, you can do it!
    Thank you, Jules!

    Absolutely first class with masses of advice based on experience, all delivered very clearly and without the bursts of technical geekery which often bedevils tutorials like this..
    Only one tiny niggle - when listing all the genres for children's books, there was no mention of poetry written for children. That's a niche that seems to be smaller than the proverbial eye of a needle! Otherwise - totally ace job. Award yourself a coffee or a G&T.

    I always come back to this channel I really appreciate your work and energy it’s awesome. I sent my childrens book to a publisher but I didn’t get a response . It would be nice to know if I was refused for the sake of clarity however I was wondering would it be appropriate if I called the company because they did say it does take 1 to 4 months but it has been 4 months. This is my first time so I was just wondering what do you suggest?

      Hi Chanele, I would definitely call them, it's rude of them not to respond at all. Sometimes they are so busy that they forget to write or email back, so I would call or email them if I were you, and ask for feedback.

    Hi Jules. I have a bit of a unique situation. A few years ago i sent several letters out to agents for my short children's book, written in rhyme. Upon 100% rejections, I decided to go a different route. I made it into an animation. It is 8 minutes and we're nearly done. Do you think I should still contact literary agents who could help me develop revenue streams for this in a non-traditional / non-book manner?
    Thanks for info

  • @np5388
    @np5388 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hiya!! Great video, I have a question. If an agent asks for a manuscript, cover letter and a synopsis. Does the synopsis go in a separate document to the manuscript or should it go at the start/end of the manuscript?
    Also!! Since I'm an author illustrator, some agents ask for a few sample illustrations, so should these go in a separate file or??
    I'm not sure if I'm overthinking this but I really don't want to submit a mess of different files which would potentially turn off the agent.
    Thanks!!!

    • @JulesMarriner
      @JulesMarriner  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I would send them in separate, labelled files so they can find the synopsis easily- that’s what they’ll look for first.

    • @JulesMarriner

    "Dont let them feel like they've been shortlisted for other possibilities." That's a naive expectation I'm literally laughing my ass off. We're trying to get noticed in a considerable amount of time. OBVIOUSLY we'd send it to other agents or publishers just incase they reject us. They either want our story or not. That's the reality of on their side and should wear their big boy pants and set their feelings aside.

    About copyright issues - can I use painting from older artists - such as Van Gogh in a children’s book?
    Also, do most children’s authors provide their own illustrations or does the publisher act as matchmaker for author and illustrator?

    • @JulesMarriner
      @JulesMarriner  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Copyright- you have to be very careful even with old paintings. Check if they are ‘in the public domain’.
      And publishers would usually use an illustrator they’ve used before and would not expect you to provide one.

      Best to write the text and have a few - maybe 2-3 - illustrations to show your style, and a dummy book to send. Don’t illustrate the whole thing, just do roughs.

    I was wondering, is it acceptable to have a book self published through Amazon KDP and contact a publisher. I am awaiting a response that takes 1 to 3 months however, the publisher that I have sought doesn’t require a literary agents but I don’t want to make a mistake. I would really appreciate your help. Thank you.

    • @JulesMarriner
      @JulesMarriner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chanele, a hard one to answer. My gut feeling is most publishers won’t want your book already published anywhere if the are going to take it on. However YOU want it published and in readers hands. Maybe you could self publish you first book, then try for a publisher on your second, so you have some figures to show them. Just a thought.
