Puppy Chow is a treat I've enjoyed since childhood when my mother used the recipe from the back of a box a Chex. This was a time when Snoopy from Peanuts was a mascot for the cereal, and the recipe was fully titled "Snoopy's Puppy Chow." I'm not sure if this is the origin of the name, but it's where my family learned it in the 80s.

I used to make that for Christmas at grandma’s house. When my mom passed I went looking for this recipe and couldn’t find it. The ones I found on the internet were different. The recipe I had said to put the powdered sugar into a paper bag, it absorbs the extra grease. I used 3 cups corn Chex, 3 cups rice Chex and 3 cups wheat Chex. Thank you for posting this one. ❤
Oh, yeah. My great aunt use to make it all the time. Shed have a big plastic container whenever we'd come over for a big holiday dinner or celebration. So good
OMG! I remember this from when I was a kid (in the 80s). I loved it so much I learned how to make it myself. Wow, now I need to make some for next week and take to my parents’ house.
Every so often, my oldest sister would make this stuff for Christmas and this year, I tried my hand at it (albeit the upgraded version with holiday M&Ms and festive pretzels). Made enough to fill up a popcorn tin, and decided to share it with my neighbors. Really good stuff. By the by, I skipped the plastic bag for the shaking and did it in a paper grocery bag. Feels like it gives a more thorough coverage when shaking.
I love puppy chow and enjoyed getting to see you experience it for the first time! Love your videos. Someday when my life isn't falling apart I will buy your cookbooks.
We used to make this at summer camp every year. This and little worms in dirt cups. It was always the last week of camp and we would make these so we could take them home with us. I would so lovingly ration it out to make it last as long as possible. Those two treats are so nostalgic for me that every time I see it I can't say no
I had a rough day at work today. I needed some cheering up, and when I saw a new recipe, I lit up. I saw this, and I now feel like my soul just had a hug. Thank you, Dylan, for giving me a little spark of good cheer! And, yes, I'll be buying your second book!

Ohhh, a regular at my old job used to make that and bring it in for everyone. He'd also include peanut butter chocolate chips and Reese's pieces and peanuts and called it "Christmas crack". A fitting name. Lol
Grew up in NW Ohio this stuff was super common. School bake sales, birthday parties, random parent brought in snacks, etc. doesn't matter you probably couldn't survive a season without seeing it at least once.
We always dumped it on a sheet Pan to put the powdered sugar on! It’s easier! Love this stuff. Just not so much of using Wheat Chex. Sometimes we’d add crushed nuts also. Dylan hands down never ceases to amuse me! Love you Dylan. Wishing you and yours a Very Happy And Merry Christmas!
I always call this muddy buddies, and I make enough of it every year for my family xmas treat boxes that I use a food safe bucket for mixing it, its so much easier than a bag too!

Mmmm... Traditional Muddy Buddies!!! Love Them with peanut butter M&M's too! 😋 Always eat them on road trips.
I love how he didn't expect Chex to be hollow
Maybe expected the chocolate etc to fill it in?
He's from Bermuda, they don't have cereal there lol
@@iridiumSerpentthey don’t have much of anything there
Omg...I remember this from my childhood! 😍 It was a staple at every elementary school class party or slumber party I attended! I haven't had it in...20 years! 😳 I desperately need a trip down culinary memory lane now! Lol! 😋
Puppy Chow is a snack that I had when I was younger, and I recently remade it after around 12 years, and it was better that I remembered
The old ladies in the church groups in the 90s, that stuff was life
It still is! 😊😊😊
We always used a paper bag too!
This was such a well-known treat growing up, i was surprised you hadn't heard of it before. Glad it was loved
Forgive him for being behind on American foods, he’s from Bermuda
I make this (muddy buddies) and chex mix for my staff each year. Simple, affordable, and delicious.
I am so glad you discovered our tasty American tradition! Still a staple dessert/treat to this day! ❤
"FI-YA!!!"
That was.. more aggressive than usual. 😂❤
That might be my favourite reaction to the taste tests
"Looks like i microwaved a squirrel.... Again..."
Dylan...?
That's a call back to his figgy pudding video lmao
Not the first time it looked like he’d microwaved a squirrel.
The first squirrel incident was last year's Figgy Pudding!
We call it Reindeer Food where I'm from. And as toss in Red and Green M&M's to Christmas it up more
Wait that sounds delicious??
Yes and I've also seen round or sphere pretzel pieces added as well😊
I grew up calling it that too, was scrolling for this comment .
Puppy chow is literally the best part of any holiday season 🙏
My grandma made the BEST puppy chow. It was less sweet than others. I don't miss a lot about that woman, but I do miss Christmas time puppy chow
So proud you've finally disocvered Puppy Chow 😁
Born in '86, this was a staple treat of my childhood!
I love how much he loves it. Definitely a delicious treat
I just bought your book Baking Yesteryear and I'll say, I love it!! I can't wait to some of these recipes, and even your so called favorites❤️
I 👏 love 👏 this 👏 man. Tickles me every time 😂
We used to make this at summer camp every year. This and little worms in dirt cups. It was always the last week of camp and we would make these so we could take them home with us. I would so lovingly ration it out to make it last as long as possible. Those two treats are so nostalgic for me that every time I see it I can't say no
Yes a summer camp treat! It’s interesting to see this is supposed to be a Christmas thing, but it does make sense with the snow like appearance
I had a rough day at work today. I needed some cheering up, and when I saw a new recipe, I lit up. I saw this, and I now feel like my soul just had a hug.
Thank you, Dylan, for giving me a little spark of good cheer!
And, yes, I'll be buying your second book!
God, that brings back memories. Puppy Chow was the kind of treat that was easy to make for and distribute to a lot of kids.
See us old ppl made some good stuff!!
I still make puppy chow at Christmas.. it's always a favorite..
Enjoy your Christmas!!
Uhhh us old people? Excuse me. I was born in 82 and I’m not old. Well. Old ish. It’s just. We are not old!
@
Oh,, sweet summer child. I have a kid your age! I'm old!!
I remember my mother making puppy chow or something similar in the '70's!!
ps/ you are NOT old...
We used to make puppy chow over a fire at Girl Scout camp- you have to pretend you're a witch tho melting the chocolate and peanut butter 😂
Ahh fond memories by the campfire!
Muddy Buddies! Least that's what they're called when they're on the shelf, never heard of it being called Puppy Chow before 😂Either way it's REALLY good!
This was my birthday treat every year growing up in the early 2000s!!
OH MY GOD YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
I'm from the south, and so is most of my family, but my grandmother has made this for as long as me and my mom both remember
Dylan- I love your channel. You always make me laugh. Thanks.
I hope you & yours have a wonderful holiday season.
Just ordered 2 more of your cookbooks...absolutely the most fun and appreciated Christmas gift to friends /family ever. ( yes, of course I gifted myself one.)
Ohhh, a regular at my old job used to make that and bring it in for everyone. He'd also include peanut butter chocolate chips and Reese's pieces and peanuts and called it "Christmas crack".
A fitting name. Lol
I LOVE puppy chow, our family doesn’t make it super often but when we do it’s always amazing
I’ve always seen this called muddy-buddies. Puppychow is a new one, to me.
I'm pretty sure Muddy-Buddies is just a brand of puppy chow, so you're not too far off
Puppy chow is absolutely a staple for american christmas time treats ❤❤❤
That book will be a birthday gift from: me to: me
We had this all the time at Girl Scouts!!
Grew up in NW Ohio this stuff was super common. School bake sales, birthday parties, random parent brought in snacks, etc. doesn't matter you probably couldn't survive a season without seeing it at least once.
80s child here! I grew up with this and I still get jars of it at Christmas
My momma and I made this all the time growin up. It's amazing💜
It’s healthy because it’s cereal, right?
Absolutely 😁
also called muddy buddies!! the best creation on this planet
I always call this muddy buddies, and I make enough of it every year for my family xmas treat boxes that I use a food safe bucket for mixing it, its so much easier than a bag too!
That "Fire" sounded mighty spicy today😂
I love it when you announce the year I was married to be so long ago! 😂
We always called it "Reindeer Chow"..Santa fed it to the Reindeer to make them be able to fly. 🎅
