    I just thought about something I learned in Rabbi Telushkin's books, I believe. Someone gave tzedakah to relieve their understanding of the pain of the person, then went back and gave more because it's what we're to do, give tzedakah.

    I also think of the story about someone walking with their daughter in NYC. The parent gave a dollar to a beggar. Their daughter shared the lesson she had just learned in Hebrew school that you have to give with joy and looking at the person. They went back and gave another dollar, saying G-d bless you while looking into the beggar's eyes. A different experience. The beggar was a person.
