Vincent (Vince) Gill is not at all your typical country artist. He attended college on a GOLF scholarship and wanted to be a professional golfer. Simultaneously he was a phenomenal guitarist and, unbeknown to most, singer as well. Vince began doing Nashville studio session work, as an instrumentalist, then a backup singer too. Patti Loveless hired him to work on some of her albums. This was Vince's break out #1, Grammy and Country Music Association award winning song. He has gone on to forge an INCREDIBLE country music career.

That is his cousin Patty Lifeless doing harmony with him. In addition to many country hits of her own, years after this, when her cousin Vince choked up with emotion singing "Go Rest High" at George Jones' funeral, she was harmonizing with him. Without a pause or hestationb she smoothly went from harmony to solo. She kept it together watching her cousin break down and sang with a strong voice until he got it back together. My respect for her rose montementaly.

I am not a huge country fan but man I love Vince Gill. Vincent (Vince) Gill is not at all your typical country artist. He attended college on a GOLF scholarship and wanted to be a professional golfer. Simultaneously he was a phenomenal guitarist and, unbeknown to most, singer as well. Vince began doing Nashville studio session work, as an instrumentalist, then a backup singer too. Patti Loveless hired him to work on some of her albums. This was Vince's break out #1, Grammy and Country Music Association award winning song. He has gone on to forge an INCREDIBLE country music career.

My favorite song by Vince Gill is If You Ever Have Forever In Mind... beautiful song. In case you didn't know. He had been performing with the Eagles since Glenn Frey passed away.
That is his cousin Patty Lifeless doing harmony with him. In addition to many country hits of her own, years after this, when her cousin Vince choked up with emotion singing "Go Rest High" at George Jones' funeral, she was harmonizing with him. Without a pause or hestationb she smoothly went from harmony to solo. She kept it together watching her cousin break down and sang with a strong voice until he got it back together. My respect for her rose montementaly.
Patty Loveless….not Lifeless! They are not cousins, but very close friends for a very long time! Friends for over 35 years and sang on each others’s first hit songs Vince sang background on Patty’s first #1 hit “Timber I’m Falling In Love” and Patty returned the favor for Vince when she sung harmony on “When I Call Your Name” and “Pocket Full Of Gold”.

I got to see Vince and Patty at separate concerts at Cheyenne Frontier Days - both so good! A couple of my faves by her: "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" and "I'm That Kind of Girl." Vince has so many, but a few are: "I Still Believe in You" and "What the Cowgirls Do."
"Whenever You Come Around" is also right up there. Trisha Yearwood is backup singing with him on that one. He also has a live version the same song with the great Alison Krause. Love your reactions!

I am not a huge country fan but man I love Vince Gill. You think this song is going to be another typical steel guitar country song until that harmony with Patty Loveless kicks in which takes it to the moon for me. Whenever You Come Around, Don't Let Our Love Start Slipping Away are both great ones from him. A really beautiful and special song from Vince is I Still Believe In You.

Fun fact about Vince is that he used to just write for other artists. One day he was singing one of them to others so they knew hoiw it went and they were blown away and told him he should sing it himself. Patty here sing quite often with Vince.
