Hi Guys great video so thank you! Watched this before we went to Dubrovnik and we found it very helpful! Couple of changes maybe since the video was uploaded. The first stop for the inbound Shuttle Bus dropped us at the Ploca Gate which was very handy for us. We bought return tickets which were a bit cheaper than each way. The Driver will not take payment on the Bus so get your ticket at the airport (Just inside the door where the bus pulls up) or across from the cable car in a tiny shop selling tickets. There were amazing views sitting on the Left side of the Bus going into the city!!
OMG WATER SHOES!!! No two ways about it you need water shoes on these beaches. We didn't have any and it did spoil the experience of going in for a swim....
The Ploca Gate area IS the best place to start the walk on the wall! Lots of steps at the start but there are places along the wall to rest with refreshments.
Streets can be Slippy when anyway wet!!
We went up the Cable car to the fortress on top of the mountain and we were so glad we did. Some great history attached to it. War Museum is worth seeing. Nice restaurant up there too. Make sure you wear some bug repellant. I received a good few bites on my trip.
Thanks again Jenn and Preston. You helped us a lot, so I thought I'd add an update and re-emphasize some of your tips!

    • @JennPreston
      @JennPreston  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tamy tank I have copied a conversation we had with a couple, who have owned and operated an AirBnB in Old Town Dubrovnik for years. Below is their insight into Dubrovnik’s restaurant scene. Hope it helps.
Here are a couple places that we appreciate. Things can change during the season so we'll do our best to keep the list updated and accurate:
      BREAKFAST:
Breakfast isn't regarded as an important meal in Dubrovnik. Normally, locals skip it or have a shot of rakija and a simple spread of jam and bread. You'll see line-ups at the bakery or old sailors nursing a small coffee and a large beer. In the square just below us, you'll find Poco Loco which serves breakfast after 10AM and offers discounts for our guests (just make sure to tell the server that you are from Fresh* Sheets before you order). Another option is Gusta Me, they are located just outside Ploce Gate and do a good omelette. It's a pleasant place during the summer because you escape the crowds and will enjoy a beautiful view (tell them you are from Fresh* Sheets for a discount on your next meal). For a free American style hand-roasted coffee, drop by our shop 'KAWA' (located just next to Gusta Me).
      MARENDA:
Maybe breakfast isn't such a big deal because there is another meal between breakfast and lunch called 'marenda'. The beauty about this meal is that it is for locals so you'll be eating typical home-style food at great prices. The strange thing about this meal is that the best place to get it (inside the Old Town) is at the Gaffe Irish pub. Just be aware that they have a patio outside where people smoke. Inside is non-smoking.
      LUNCH:
Our advice is always to get out of dodge when the cruise ship traffic is in town (i.e. between 10:00-16:00). Most of our lunch options are out of town. Lady Pi Pi is the exception. This is one of the only places in town that has a fire grill. They serve simple but delicious grilled fish and meat. If you get the chance, try to sit at the back of the terrace where you will have a great view of the town. Otherwise, head out of town. Bugenvila in Cavtat is one of our favourite restaurants. Their set lunch menus and cocktails are fantastic. The owner recently opened up an Oyster and Prosecco bar next door. Awesome! You'll also find several restaurants on the island of Lokrum. Food is decent and surprisingly decently priced. We love Lokrum. It's a great place to chill. If you have kids, don't miss it! Wild peacocks and lots of rabbits. We can also lend you hammocks and sports gear, just ask. Another great option is to have a picnic near the olive groves. You can grab some local goodies, a chilled bottle of rose, or craft beer from KAWA. Or order a Picnic lunch from our good friend Alex ( (Website hidden by Airbnb)
      DINNER:
There are some great places to eat dinner both inside and outside the Old Town. Currently, and in no particular order, we recommend:
Kopun - great setting and a good spot for families (the kids can run around in front of the Jesuit church). We celebrated Sanja's birthday here. I totally embarrassed her and had her meet the cast of Game of Thrones;). We prefer their seafood dishes. Try the shellfish, flatfish, or buzara (spicy seafood stew). The deserts are awesome! Combine with sunset drinks at Buza cliff bar (Casual. $$$. Old Dubrovnik recipes)
Taj Mahal - they serve great Bosnian food which is influenced by the Ottomans. One of the only restaurants open all year, this is my parents favourite spot. It can get quite busy so make sure to make a reservation. Cevapi is the comfort food of the entire region. Also options for vegetarians. (Casual. $$$. Bosnian)
Azur - a nice little hideaway. The passionate young chef/owner used to be a patron of ours when we ran a bar called Fresh*. He moved to China for awhile and returned to open up Croatia's first Cro-Asian restaurant! There's a hole in the wall nearby which leads to a great swimming spot and a low key spot for drinks. (Casual. $$$. Croatian-Asian fusion)
Takenoko - they have one of the most spectacular terraces and views in town. They serve up Japanese food and Asian fusion. It's not cheap but if you are looking for a sushi fix and well prepared cocktails... ($$$$. Japanese)
Nautika, Proto, Dubrovnik 360, Stara Loza - Fine dining in Dubrovnik probably started with Nautika and Proto. Dubrovnik 360 has changed their head chef numerous times over the past few years so we can't speak for the food but the setting is monumental and service is theatrical. Stara Loza also has an ambitious and creative young chef. Unfortunately, we haven't eaten at any of these places this year so cannot give personal recommendations yet. Will update as the season goes along...
      OFF THE BEATEN TRACK
There are some fantastic restaurants in nearby villages or on nearby islands (like Sipan). They often require a car or transport so are not very convenient. That said, we always enjoy a visit to Koraceva Kuca in the village of Gruda (about (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) minutes drive). Konoba Kod Marka on the island of Sipan (@ 60 minutes ferry) has some of the best seafood around. Lukas Taverna in Kobas is a great lazy afternoon experience with very fresh seafood (@1-1.5 hour drive). We also enjoy crossing the border into Bosnia Hercegovina to eat at Drijen (@30 minutes drive) or Stara Hercegovina (@60 minutes drive). If you are staying a shorter time, we'd advise you to not worry about getting off the beaten track as the other restaurants we already mentioned are great options. We do love eating and have driven 3.5 hours just to get authentic Sichuan food in Podgorica (which is a bit odd) so if you want a bit of adventure...

We always approach every vacation/holiday by researching the neighborhoods in the city we plan to visit. This gives us an idea of what neighborhoods best align with our personal interests. Below is a link to a neighborhood guide of Dubrovnik. I think this will help you narrow down your hotel search to an area that best checks off the majority of your wants and needs during the course of your stay. Because we are not well versed on the various accommodations in and around Dubrovnik, I would hate to recommend one that turns out to be a horrible experience. The neighborhood guide will help you narrow down where you want to spend your time.
      DUBROVNIK NEIGHBORHOODS
      theplanetd.com/where-to-stay-in-dubrovnik/
To avoid ascents, I would definitely avoid staying in Ploce (above Banje Beach). You would be navigating ascents over the course of your entire vacation in Dubrovnik.
I wanted to attach a link detailing the public bus lines throughout Dubrovnik. In case you decide to save more energy by not walking all the time to Old Town.

Keep in mind the main bus station in Dubrovnik is located in Gruz (New Harbor), which is where all of the cruise ships arrive. Crowds? Probably.
If you plan using public transit and visiting Old Town's museums, you might consider the Dubrovnik Card. Public transit is included in the price of the Card.
      DUBROVNIK CARD
      www.dubrovnikcard.com

Hope this information helps you. Let us know if you have anymore questions. Maybe someone viewing this thread will have better insight into specific accommodations. We would strongly encourage you to narrow down your search first by neighborhood. Then research hotels in that neighborhood that line up with your budget and needs.

John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
