- Controline Winder 2 by Vintage Performance. This laser cut kit uses contest balsa, comes with a beefed up wing spar and a new airfoil. I also added an adjustable lead out guide and a window over the bladder tank compartment. This being the 3rd and last Winder I build, I decided to put a new Fox 36 MK 6 with a fine thread needle valve assembly. It will use a pressure bladder and has the venturi insert removed. The covering on the wing is poly span. The nose section is fiberglassed and has 1/8" aluminum engine pads on the motor mounts. The tail section was covered with silkspan. The 3 plywood booms were re built by Robert Whitley. The finish was Pactra acrylic lacquer for the neon pink, green and yellow. The white and black are Sig dope. The clear coat is an automotive 2K acrylic urethane by Pro Form. It was then wet sanded with 1000, 1500, 2500, 3000, 5000. After that I buffed it with compound.
What a great looking ship, a pretty pristine MK VI, thank you for taking the time to film it not flying as most poster do that and all you see a blurry dot!
The next time you see this i will video tape the fueling, starting, launching and hopefully the 2 second lap times which is 120mph.
Spectacular model! Absolute top shelf craftsmanship
Thank you very much!
The winters are long, that far north, eh? She's a beauty!!!
You nailed it. The long winters are a good excuse to put the time in to push these planes to a higher level. 🤪
Wow beautiful finish !!! Nice to see some real models and not ARF’s
Thanks!
Mine, with a Fox 36X, a baby pacifier tank, and built from the original kit about 1976, only lasted half a lap. Never again 🙂
I had the same experience. That was 30 years ago, and it has been bugging me ever since. That is also the reason i picked up a mint Cox Spitfire. I will post both videos as it happens😁
As always truly awesome Kevin!
Looking forward to seeing it in person.

Also “nice booms” 😄👍

@@oldcontrollinepilot7155 They were made by a master craftsman that will remain anonymous lest he send me a bill for amount owing.😁
I had a voodoo with a fox 40 what a blast.
It must be the difference in paint schemes because the one I built in the early 70's looks longer and thinner?
Mine is 42" X 6-1/2" across the wing.
That's quite possible. This isn't a stock Sterling Models Winder. This kit is a laser cut Winder 2 by Vintage Performance. It comes with some 'corrections' to the original Winder
@@winnipegperfectcircleflyin7859 Corrections? Mine's already too fast and turns too sharp! 😂
@@tenlittleindiansNah... It's only too sharp a turn if the wing folds in half! 😁
Wow - I am assuming that is all butyrate dope? The depth of the gloss you achieve is amazing. I am trying, but not even close to this level of quality - congrats!
Fred, the colours are dope, the neon paint is acrylic lacquer and the clear is a 2 part acrylic urethane.
ahh got it, did you wet sand and buff the clear?
@@rcfred_689 Yes, its wet sanded and buffed out.
Fred, the easiest way to get a high gloss finish is to buy a spray can of SprayMax Glamour clear coat. Its toxic, so take all safety precautions
Is that the product you used on this airplane? @@winnipegperfectcircleflyin7859
Don't run that engine full lean with that prop, you'll regret it.
Thanks for the warning. I plan on using an APC prop for flying.
