    I inherited a bunch of rice bowls, odd Corningware custard cups and little sauce containers stolen from various restaurants. They work great!

    For many dry ingredients, I just did what my mother did, that is measure the ingredients onto wax paper. It's simple to funnel the ingredients into the pot and clean-up is just trashing the paper.

    Mise en place is definitely the way to go when preparing a variety of dishes. I have a 10-piece glass nesting bowl set...the largest bowl is intimidatingly huge as I'm always worried I'll break it but they've all survived 20 years. I also have a 6 set of porcelain mini ramekins that I use for my mise. All these are plenty for the home cook I think.

    I use small Pryex storage bowls that came with lids, so they can be used for something other than prep bowls. The lids come in handy when I sometimes prep a day ahead.

    I have about 6+ dozen pyrex/anchor 1,2, 4, and 7 cup glass storage containers. I use them for everything, from mise en place to putting away leftovers. Were they cheap? Not really. Do I use them constantly? Yes. Microwave and oven safe! I can prep an incredibly large amount of food quickly and easily, or ever prep tomorrow's dinner today.

    I bought a few sets of 4 and 6 ounce glass prep bowls. I don’t mind having some extra space in the bowl after adding my ingredients. Don’t see why that would be a factor, really. I really like that they are microwave and oven safe for making smaller dishes/desserts. They also do double duty as ice cream bowls.

  • @DJDiverDan436

    You can buy different sizes of clear glass bowls at Everything’s A Dollar - 4 for $1 for the smallest bowls, about 4 oz., 3 for $1 for slightly larger 6 oz. bowls, and $1 each for 20 oz. (2-1/2 cup) bowls. They work great, they’re microwave safe (I often use them to melt butter or warm up water or milk in the microwave), and they’re cheap enough to buy several so I don’t have to worry about doing the dishes to start a new recipe.

      This is almost like Rachael Ray's garbage bowl, but not as useless. It always tickled me that people would spend good money on a bowl to put garbage in when a grocery bag would do the same job or if you're pressed, reach into a cabinet and grab a bowl you already own. But I wasn't mad at Rachael because I wished that I had thought of it first.

    Based on this video, I purchased the winning the Anchor Hocking set 1.5 years ago. The video stated that the "one disadvantage is that these were the only bowls to break during our durability test." I really like these bowls, but 2 of my 6 did break: one of them broke when I dropped it 2 feet to my hardwood floor, and the other one broke when I was heating it in the microwave for less than a minute.
    I'm trying to buy a new set and am not sure if I want this set because due to their low durability.

    • @Soxruleyanksdrool
      @Soxruleyanksdrool ปีที่แล้ว

      The most durable glass bowls are made from borosilicate glass. This is what Anchor Hocking and Pyrex used to be made of years ago. Nowadays, they are made of cheaper soda-lime glass and they are not as durable. Just make sure that any glass bowls you buy are made of borosilicate glass, if you can. Then you will have quality.

    I started a bread blog so I needed more mixing bowls. I bought 2 stainless steel bowls and they look great at first evenif they were only $4 per piece. I've hand-wash them and then i put them through dishwasher. Later I started kneeding the dough in them and the dough end up gray.... Somehow metal was ending up in the dough. I rewash them and do a smaller batch of dough just to test it and it end up gray from metal again. Anyone had similar experience? I don't think I'll ever buy metal ones again even If I have few good ones that I bought few years ago IN THE SAME SHOP.

      @@michaelruiz3594 A great brand! We have the Duralux bistro glasses and have dropped them on the floor without breaking several times. When they do break, they sound like a bomb, shattering into pebble-sized pieces, like a windshield (much less likely to cause injury). As a bonus, we never end up with mismatched drinking glasses, since the classic design can always be replaced.
