Although often visually outstanding, Vagabond as a manga and project was undermined by some serious issues, like its excessive length that proved to be more the author himself could stand. The publication has been suspended since 2015 and has not resumed yet, if ever it will. An ambitious but botched project.

Reminds me how in Filipino Martial Arts, sword/blade focused styles (like the Saavedra and Illustrisimo Styles) gave birth to stick-focused styles (Eskrido/Corto-Kurbada, Balintawak, etc.) due to the change in training tools and methods (sword vs. stick), social standards (in a peaceful society, bringing a blade is considered dangerous), as well as the passing of time (FMA being developed as a sport).

Yes, the research for effectiveness asks for safety during training, with the passing of times and changing of necessities, an adaptation to the quality of the training tool generally creating sport environments or different training objectives of other sort.
The story above is in a sense a zenith moment of this process, when the new tool at the service of actual necessities gives an edge against more traditionally widespread methods of training.

As long as it discussion and not yelling matches. Human ego/politics is the enmy of true learning.

@@FedericoMalagutti Maybe deer skin became the staple later on. The ones we used were wrapped in deer but were modern versions and we used them just because my Sempai was obsessed with the older ways.
