@@GunTradition bs, the pattern of buck shot out at 50 yds, from a typical riot barrel, will be about 4 ft wide. remember pi r squared? to keep it simple, 50" diameter, pattern, 25" radius squared is 625 x 3.14 is about 1900 sq inches, divided by 9 of the 00 pellets, is one pellet every 210 square inches. A man's vitals is at most a 12" circle, which is 36x 3.14, which is 113 sq inches. So you get less than one 00 buck pellet on the vitals, on average, and it will hit at that range no harder than a 380 at 10 ft. in other words, it's piss poor, It's also piss poor on a cover user at 30 yards, or on a head-on prone man with a helmet at 30 yds.

I bought a Remington 870 express around 30 years ago new for $229. It's probably a good one but I haven't used it much. I bought a short barrel and pistol grip for it also. It's fun to shoot.

    Thx for your nononsens vids(edit)
Yes, the quality of Remingtons and many other shotguns have gone down. As I see it the pros for Remington 870, is the sound construction and the healty quality in the basics. An 870 cost $100 in 1960. That would be $900 today. And can be had for less than a third normally today.
Change springs, extractor - mayby ejector, give it a ceracoating, then it's en par with the best - and still cheaper than it used to be. With a steel reciever it'll last to one's great grand children without being a rattler. There's a reason Wilson Combat use 870s and there are few manual trap-/ skeetguns with aluminum recievers. IMHO
And do keep your vids coming. Subbed

Regarding the extractor: Yup, but you can do it youself. Google it here on yt.
Regarding the steel reciever, read the last part of my comment. It's for wear. Steel bolt against steel vs steel bolt against aluminium. No proff trap/skeet shooters use Moss pumps for high volume shooting.

It was the wrong time to get started from a money standpoint since I started during the pandemic when resources were scarce and expensive. Al we are realistically legally here in Ireland is shotguns you can get rifles but that is way harder to get and IMO not worth the effort they go over your life with a microscope if you want to get a rifle ,and they don't like people having more than one gun so giving up my trusty reliable built like a tank shotgun ,mind you the factory that made my gun used to make T34 tanks in WW2 it's a Baikil 12 overunder 27 em1c look it up they just work not pretty but they work even in our climate and we have a tough climate in fifteen years it's never let me down apart from one misfire and that was the ammo ,in a grid down where I live it'll deal with most problems , of course I'd like an AR r AK hell I'd be happy with a trapdoor Springfield but that ain't happening ,you should look up that 27em1c gun it one hell of beast

Excellent video on a newly acquired love for these weapons. My first Shotgun was a Benelli M4. Then...noticed a BEAUTIFUL Mossberg 500 w/ a 22 in barrel with a Camo Coating at a Pawnshop that I couldn't pass up. It truly looks like it could pass a story of having been issued to Special Forces in Vietnam if one were to tell that "tale." Most would probably believe it too. 😊 Then of course I had to get a 20 Ga Shockwave. Now I'm considering the Mossberg Persuader 590 in 20 Ga. Shotguns...it's a new found love. Definitely prefer any of my Shotguns for personal defense than my AR or AK. The ranges we may engage are what, fifty yards MAX ? Shotguns are more than adequate. Thanks for the knowledge. I hear what you're saying about Rem 870 express but I don't really agree. It is still a great gun BUT it can benefit from a few upgrades like springs and extractor. The finish on it is dogshit but you can buy a can of duracoat aerosol and fix that in an hour. So for around $500 you can still have a great dependable 12 gauge. Good video, brother.

I currently own a remington sportsman 12 guage pump and it is a workhorse for sure. It was made sometime in the 1980's. It has a 28 inch full choke barrel and the action is very smooth. I use it for home defense and clay pigeon shooting. Haven't had any problems with it either. The newer products from remington are not that well put together and the fit and finish leaves much to be desired. I look for used firearms when I'm in the market to buy. Why pay retail when there are plenty of good used guns on the racks at very reasonable prices?

for the first month or so of shtf, it will be very easy to sneak around at night, locating stupid people by their noise and their lights/wood fires. It's very easy to make and mount a servicable silencer on a 22lr rifle. Even with the sonic 'crack" of normal, supersonic 22lr ammo, a silenced 22lr rifle is pretty damned quiet. The sonic "crack" does not come from the gun, but from the first solid object that the bullet passes in its flight. So the noise can be quite deceptive as to its source and it can't be heard at all beyond about 1/4 mile, on a typical day in the woods. It doesn't sound like a gun shot. It sounds like a big dry branch breaking. The fact that you heard it doesn't help you if yo've got a 22lr bullet in your guts. You'll die of that hit.. It might take 4 days for the paid, loss of blood and infection to stop your heart, but you'll be non-functional in a very few hours, at best and maybe dead in minutes, depending upon what the bullet punctured inside of you. it's very, very easy to carry 1000 rds f 22lr ammo in a pack and to find more of it when looting. or bartering.

A 60 gr softpoint, at 2500 fps from a shorty 223 AR, will blow pieces of a man back out of the entrance hole, guys. No more men, % wise, can stand up to that than have stood up to a 00 blast or 12 ga slug. Such things Do happen, about 1 time in 100, even with heart hits. but you dont have to limit yourself to the pee poor range, penetration, mag capacity, noise, flash, slow reloading, etc of a shotgun.

there's 8 million motorcycles in the US. They all get 40mph and some get 80mph. all can have 5 of the 5 gallon jerrycans of gas lashed to them. This gives them 1-2k miles of range and they WILL find more gas as they travel. No place in the lower 48 states is more than one night's motorcycle ride and one night's hike from MILLIONS of people. When there's no cops, they can drive 100mph, eh? Bikes can get around stalled cars on the highway.
The 3200 miles from NYC to san fran has been crossed on a bicyle in 8 days, many times. anyoe can do so in a month., given a bit of speed and valium, towing a trailer with 50 lbs of food and with 50 more lbs of food on the bike. Dozens of people know about your "secret spot" and have or will tell dozens more people about it. You are NOTHING like as "remote" as you think. you are!
A shotgun blast can be heard for a mile around and dozens of people will be in that 3 sq miles of land. Anyone can tell a shotgun blast from a rifle's crack. They will know that you're helpless beyond 50m if they use cover or have armor. They'll know that you're stupid cause you're using a noisy shotgun, probably a nearly worthless single shot. So they'll just come take your stuff.
2 guys with autoloading 22lr rifles can easily pin you down while one moves to outflank your cover. when all you have is a shotgun, even if it IS a repeater. A 22lr is easily lethal to 125m, The riot 12 ga has head/ shoulder sized holes in the 00 pattern at 25m, so he can't reliably hit a cover using man at longer ranges. Nobody practices enough with $1 per shot 12 ga slugs to be any good with them. you choose the shotgun cause you dont WANT to practice the necessary 10,000 rds per year to be good with a single projectile.
Birds are not worth a shotgun shelll, unless hey are the size of at least a goose, preferably a turkey. I've taken many such birds with combat pistols. They are easily baited in and trapped, or you hide in a pit blind and shoot them from 25m. and you can do so from 100m with a BB gun quiet, silenced 22lr autoirifle, with subsonic ammo. You can trap game and birds, and use netting to catch fish, at NIGHT. You can't be out and about, making noise, or showing a light at night, once shtf. Do those things and you'll get shot the first month.

people only choose the shotgun cause they aint waf with a rifle and can't be bothered to learn. They are also too lazy, inept, cheap and cowardly to make or buy a silencer for a shorty AR , which, with the 22lr conversion unit is 10x better for shtf than any shotgun. birds and small game aint WORTH a shotshell, much less the killers that the noise will "call-in. Traps, netting, Rotenone fish poison, trotlines, and especially, big game snares are many times better than hunting with a shotgun, If you're making noise and are also out and about post shtf, you'll get shot within a month. The passive "hunting" and fishing methods can be working for you 24-7, in 50 places at once, SiLENTLY and can be set and serviced at night, with the night vision that you're too cheap to buy.

let's see you get FIVE hits with a pump 12 and buckshot i in the 1.6 seconds that jerry needed to get 10, using an AR-15. The rifle COULD easily have been a suppressed 300 blackout with subsonic ammo. Those hits were centered well enough at 5m to have still bee on a man at 20m, where youre buckshot is a 'maybe" 'from a riot barrel.

@@GunTradition I just explained to you how LITTLE shotguns are good for, and you can't carry two longarms ammo, and the pack and armor night vision, helmet, food and water that you have to have at all times if shtf. youre living in a dream world where everything goes as you "think" it "should". Far more likely a guy with a silenced 22lr autorifle pops you in the guts, using cover, from 100m plus and you have no idea where the shot even came from, much less are able to do anything about it. Then you have a week of fever, weakness infection before you die in agony. Nothing can save you once you take such a hit.
I wrote a little booklet on how to make threaded on silencers, good for thousands of rds, and how to thread the 22's barrel, all without power tools, for Paladin Press in 1992. It sold half a million copies. Nobody pays $15 for such a book and doesn't try to do the thing it's about and they give it to their buddies to read, too. Paladin went out of biz when Poiter died about 5 years ago, but you still see copies of it for sale at amazon, now and then. You'd be better off playing golf against tiger woods than arguing shtf guns with ME, bro. I was doing this before you were born, literally. I was in prison when I wrote this, so I took a $4000 lump sum, when my royalty would have been $1 each. Neither I nor they had any clue that it might sell more than a very few thousand copies in 10 years. It sold 30,000 copies the first year and averaged over 15,000 copies per year, for many years. I also sold them how to silencer books for the .45 autopistol, the Mini-14 and the Beretta 9mm. They never did publish the 9mm booklet. The 45 book is no longer available, not much demand for it, apparently. they didn't print many of the Ruger books, either, but it is in HIGH demand, mosty out of CA, due to the stupid ban on the AR in that commie land.
