The Fleur de Lis is actually a symbol widely present in French history. Since French settlers founded the city of New Orleans, making it a vital piece of the history and culture of New Orleans, it makes a whole lot of sence to consider this symbol for an NFL team from that city. Also it's associated with knights, nobles, kings and the likes and often times also with the Catholic church. So... I don't know why you guys don't see a connection there.

Canada also has a history of slavery, and Quebec had more slaves than any other province in Canada. Those are the facts and your feelings won't change that.
The Falcon is shaped like an F, that's why it looks that way. And it has to use the team colors so of course it won't look like a real falcon. I think it's one of the best logos and I think my Jets have about the worst
"Fleur De Lis" means "flower" or "lily". It was a symbol of royalty in France and latter French Louisiana. That's why the Saints chose the logo.
Personally, I love the current Vikings, Rams, Seahawks, and the Dolphins logos.
Whoever wrote this has zero sense of history or artistry. The Browns logo being a plain helmet is the *only* remnant of the days when EVERY team had a plain helmet. It wasn't until 1946 when the Cleveland Rams introduces the ram horns that ANY team had a logo. The NFL spend its first quarter century with logo-less helmets.

The cardinals developed from the color. They used to be the Chicago Maroons, because of their maroon jerseys, and the color changed with time, so someone said they were the cardinals now.
I know you need not worry about the fluer de lis and pronounce it right. The saints are one of the only teams besides the steelers and the packers that their team logo have something to do with their city or state.
