peace-- Tash of Tha Alkaholiks was one of the MCs who they inteviewed for the book "H OW-T O-RAP : The Art&Science of the HipHop MC' Definitely worth reading if youre interested in how MCs put their lyrics together, there is a ton of knowledge dropped in that book
For real. I was 18 when this dropped back in 98-99. Ohhh the Good days. For those who still follow, TASH has a new album that dropped summer 2009 called "CONTROL FREEK". Real hip hop forever! One Love
Agree with baloo. Art is definitely often a reflection of society. Hip hop is no different. Things are more structured, material, and "mc donalised" than they have ever been today. It only makes sense that our mainstream music would come out this way as well. I am glad that I was a teenager in the 90s and got to listen to this beautiful form of hip hop everyday. More genuine art and music still exists today, you just have to dig deeper to find it.
Music is always good, if you know where to look. But this was the ultimate, back in the day. I would play this over and over again, and I still get down when I play it now.
what an awsome video! it gives me that warm nostalgic feeling. kinda strange how something from the 90s can do that. i guess i dont see much of this style anymore. the music videos today are all about ballin', but what happend to the skillz? cash and ladies and cars are cool, but what about soul? thank god that rappers or anyone else cant buy soul
The song is called "1nce Again". It was the first single on A Tribe Called Quest's "Beats, Rhymes and Life" album. J Dilla did the production for it, too.
If you didnt have this album on rotation along with all things fall apart, full clip n moment of truth, the mos def, loot pack, pharoes monchos, wave twisters, a lot of good 98-99 shit....the second soundbombing...a lot of great singles too...anyway if ya lived it like me ya know if u didnt then u just didnt.
@DJSANTOS79 Im 17 now so I was only 6- 7 but I still remember this rap/hiphop from back then left an impression on you. now for that feeling you have to go underground
When I looked at the title for this song, I figured I was about to hear the best song ever. Love all these guy's styles. I'm surprisingly disappointed by this. They need to try making a whole album together. Maybe add Talib Kweli too.
Just read a few pages; gonna have to pick this up, xerox it and litter a few blocks. Maybe it'll catch on, on how this is done, was done, and should be done for these up and comers. Spread the word!
TASH stole the show on this shit, TASH is the shit, just a great mc, i put TASH up there with BIG PUN, he got a crazy flow, TASH is the shit my favorite rapper easy, THA ALKAHOLIKS are the shit, TASH blew this shit out the water
Tash has a solo album called RAPLIFE and a nes album that came out this year called CONTROL FREEK check them out, here on you tube also, Tash has a style never heard anyone with, he has a real craetive flow
whether or not Nas's cd title is a publicity stunt isn't an issue. what matters is what type of material he puts out and the motive behind it. if u catch an interview that he did with Mad Linx, he admitted that he got caught up in the mainstream formula for a little bit in the past. i believe that he brought it back nice on hip hop is dead album. i respect your opinion though.
peace--
