What's with the wanky bass? The original bassline, made even better in the Bauhaus cover, is what the song is all about (as well as the really odd and great lyrics). I really like John's vocal/melodic reference to the Monkees' 'Zilch' in the 'parasitic' part.
He butchered the Velvet classics a few years ago and this take on his solo…or more appropriately Bauhaus classic doesn’t sound good. All the glory of his weirdness is gone. Cale’d stick to his recent songs.
I've seen the concert yesterday, this was my favorite tune. Great cat John Cale, excellent band, everything seems to be right there.
