I wish mermaids got a refresh, absolutely. But I just bought Island Living for them and I have no regrets. The world alone is worth it, and I love my storylines with them.
There is an expanded mermaids mod by Spinningplumbobs. Maybe you should try it?
Mermaids just add that extra touch of magic and whimsy to playing the Sims. Once we have faeries it'll be peak whimsy.

If you play with mods there’s one called Expanded Mermaids that’s really good and enhances the gameplay

I already have that mod but I rarely ever use it. Maybe I’ll play with it in my next legacy challenge generation.

Mermaids actually get upset when you have mounted fish on the wall. I accidentally married a mermaid and she kept crying when she'd see them until I took them down. LOL

I was thinking of that as Kayla kept adding them! I think sims with child of the ocean trait that arent mermaids also dislike the dead fish on the wall
they also become sad when they catch a fish too
What's weird to me is how they have that ability to improve fishing, but they also get really upset over catching a fish

Yeah there's a lot of alien looking plants and stuff that could be good for an alien type house
I hope the summer roadmap will get "a huge watery update" for this pack 😭 I imagine more people would buy island living if mermaids were real, not only mermaids by name
People buy the pack regardless because they like the world and items, why would they rework it when it already sells so well. As long as people are buying it EA has no incentive to put anymore effort into it
What do you mean with "not only mermaids by name"? They get Tails and have some unique Powers. How would it be different if they where "real"?
I have no idea how sims is going to pull off an castle kit when round walls is the biggest issue

I totally vote PlantSim. They're so ridiculous and amazing and deserve a totally decked out eco lifestyle shipping container gone GREEN house! You could even base it off the house in the Eco Lifestyle world!
I play with mermaids only. I like that they are more similar to humans and don't have tier lists. The only thing I feel is lacking from Island Living is underwater world. I would like to be able to explore underwater and find collectibles. But I understand why would that be complicated to create.
I do the same. I like that mermaids don’t have too much struggle with gameplay. Just make sure they get some water and you’re good. An underwater Atlantis would’ve been so awesome
I just think there needs to be more difference from mermaid to mermaid. Like, maybe one mermaid is more of a predator and can catch fish with their hands underwater and loves to eat fish, while another is more of a friend to fish and can befriend the dolphins etc. It just seems like it would make it more fun to play with them more often, because otherwise playing as a mermaid is pretty much the same every time except for whatever you decide to do yourself, you know?

A secret underwater tunnel with a secret world, like willow creek but under water, would have been so cool!
they did it in the sims 3 so idk why sims 4 doesnt have it
Oh my God, you could tell that Kayla doesn't play with mermaids often, because she put a dead fish in the build and considered it "mermaid-y" ☠️
I think the mermaids just need that skill tree - not even just for the skills but to be able to tell more concretely different stories like with the vampires. With the vampires you can be like, a vampire leader making a bunch of other vampires, or you can be a vegetarian vampire, or a daywalking vampire etc. etc. If we could have a few, even minor differences between one mermaid to the next that would make them more interesting. Like, they should have leaned into the siren/mermaid thing by making those interactions where you can lure sims into the water part of a skill tree. Have it so that theres skills for mermaids that make it so they can attract dolphins and fish to them, or make it so they can give sims temporary underwater breathing and then others where they can lure sims into drowning or can make boats crash. It would require integration with seasons, but wouldn't it be cool if a siren could call up a storm while a mermaid could make it sunny?
Exactly. I remember a household of mine specifically where the one of the siblings was a human loving vegetarian meanwhile the other was obssesed with gaining as many power as possible in order to surpass vlad
I would have preferred they not added round walls than adding round walls that are unusable. Literally just did it to say they did.
Not really. They did it to shut people up basically I'm almost positive. They repeatedly told people round walls would not work in the system and people kept complaining and whining about NEEDING them, so they caved and added them even though they don't really work within the Sims 4's build system.

@@anxious_and_avoidant The implication is different. Cuz they really didn't add it just to add it, they added it to hopefully get people to shut up about it. Had people not harassed them, I don't think rounded walls would exist.
@@moonlitxangel5771 I’m saying they added them just to tell *those people* that they did it. But if they’re this broken, they’re essentially useless. EA should be able to have enough conviction to not release a feature that can’t function regardless of what people are asking for.
Maybe they wouldn’t have done it if people weren’t asking, but that doesn’t change that they clearly only did it… to say that they did it. 😅

I built a tiny house for one of my vampires and hers is a little Gothic caravan that looks like an old horse drawn coach. It's actually really dope

two story tiny home need one thing: ladders. i downloaded kayla’s werewolf tiny house and immediately swapped the stairs for a ladder, then i could add a dining table

I think it would be fun to see a robot tiny home. Especially since they have different needs and you could get really creative with how you decorate

Round walls are still so broken even the windows that are supposed to work with them don't work great. I made a pretty build with round walls but ended up having to use basket to block off one side of some of the beds so sims wouldn't get stuck. And although i covered most of the weird windows I still have a few bits that look wrong
id only buy the island living pack if they refreshed mermaids 👀

Personally, I don’t think they’re objectively the worst. I prefer having a simpler occult type that largely only affects the aesthetic-my biggest concern is having a pretty mermaid on my screen, and I got that. I’d take that 100 times over a rampaging werewolf

If love if you built with all the occult packs. Maybe an occult family where each family member is a different occult sim
You can really tell Simsie doesn't play with occults since she doesn't even know that mermaids have powers. They could still do with a major refresh & skill tree, but they can change the weather, sing to other sims to make them feel different emotions (such as flirty, sad, etc), summon sea monsters (this might be trait dependent; i know good sims can't), lure better fish to fishing holes, & have an easier time communicating with dolphins than humans do. They're also totally immune to drowning, which I consider a plus.
You should do a rags to riches with mermaids. Stanley can be a mer-weenie and make money by diving for treasure and taking underwater pictures in Sulani. His tail should be red and yellow for ketchup and mustard. Mermaids can sleep floating on water, so he wouldn't need a bed! Also, pee in the ocean and shower under the waterfall. I'd watch it!

A fish on a wall is not a good choice for a mermaid because they get sad when they see it🤭
it would've been cool if the mermaids got a secret world kind of like in glimmer brook with spell casters you get the magic realm maybe something like that would've been cool. and if they could do more stuff and had a skill tree. I think they need a whole refresh tbh
I just wish the mermaids were like the ones from sims 3. I loved how you could actually swim underwater and see the underwater caves and treasures

I think that turned out cute! I admit I've never played with a mermaid but they do have a few powers that are cool - I love the weather control. I find it funny given the "fish" debate that one of their powers is aquatic lure, and WHY don't they snorkel?? Don't really care which one you do next but alien will be the hardest next to this. The other will be easy comparatively I think; even plant sim, there's so much plant based stuff in the game.

My mermaid got a negative moodlet when she saw a fish mounted on the wall, so the choice of decor here might upset them a little 😂
I love to play with the mermaids, it's a shame they didn't get proper ocult stuff like vampires and werwolf. But they are able not just to swimm, they can switch the wether and changing the mood of other sims by singimg them a song. Oh and this fish on the wall will most probably make your mermaid sad (dead ocean friend) xD
Kind of late to comment about it this late, but it would be cool to make a tiny house for an unconventional vampire, like one that's into wellness or gardening and dresses in bright colors or pastels.
I might be wrong, but I think the wallpaper you used on the outside is actually based on rammed earth, so yeah, it should remind you of sand! It's a super cool construction technique that's literally just... laying dirt. And then smashing it real hard!

I think the thing holding back every occult (and some other things) in the Sims 4 is the team's constant fear of living up to their rating and stop playing safe. Teens are basically adults because they can woohoo. Mermaids can't actually mind control or tempt people. Vampires drink "plasma" and not blood. Spellcasters can't actually kill sims with their fire and freezing. It takes a trillion steps to turn someone into a werewolf. There are no burglars. The Sims team takes zero risks, instead of being creative to make 'edgy' content funny without offending the majority they'd rather not do anything bold at all.
the ad game I legit play all the time and have done for far longer than I care to admit 😅
but also: with the round walls issues, maybe go back to how we dealt with round things PRE- round walls: octagonal rooms???

Not only do mermaids not have a skill tree, they also have the hindrance of constantly needing hydration. They definitely need a refresh adding skills like a siren's song where they can attract people or something
Island living is actually one of my favourite packs. I live in a country with long cold winters. Like right now it's 5 PM and it's already dark, the temperature outside is freezing and there are crows everywhere in town. Playing in a sunny tropical ocean world is my escape.
Idk why people think mermaids would have some kind of fish empathy. Lots of fish eat other fish. Like, not even just sharks like in the movies. *Tuna* are predatory! Which is why they're such a mercury poisoning hazard, btw.
when she was building the farme of the house and had so many round walls I thought for sure she would bulldoze and start over but no she just struggled with them the whole video lol
