I've seen some many users mistake the saving of files to OneDrive vs their actual device, like in your example at around the 10:00 mark. Worse is trying to untangle without losing their data, but your explanation will help :)
Thank you. Nice explanation probably the clearest I’ve heard. However, the much desired task of simply moving files and folders from the local drive to the Onedrive cloud via File Explorer seems so complicated I’m afraid to mess around with any of the settings. How could Microsoft have created such a user unfriendly system. 😢
Thank you! This was very helpful. I was trying to link folders located on an external drive to sync using OneDrive. Instead, I'll be using the "Files on Demand" functions and free up space at the folder level.
Thank you for sharing, What about freeing space as we often get alert that MS space is full and that what's in mail box and cloud and when I try to delete a big folder on one drive of old documents It also got delivered from my desk top. Also the Google drive almost full.
Hi Leo… My One Drive is full at work but no matter what I’ve tried; it will not allow me to delete these folders & files. I have stuff on here from years ago and I want them gone but; I do not want to delete one drive all together because there are a few useful links that allow me to update attendance spreadsheets (I am a teacher). Also, the few times I thought I could delete; the files would simply reappear in one drive. I’ve tried this directly on one drive and on-line using a different pc. I can still use my work pc just fine but it’s very frustrating because I just want these files gone. Thank you… Gene
Hi Leo, tutorial as always very interesting. My question concerns the possibility of making a backup on the OneDrive cloud of an external memory connected to the PC. I have an external memory that I update daily. On this memory I make a daily backup on another external memory. In addition to this I would also like to make a backup on the OneDrive cloud without taking up space on my PC. I ask you, is it possible? Dropbox with Dropbox Backup gives you this possibility, in practice it recognizes the external memory and, every change you make, it synchronizes it on the cloud. But I don't understand if this is possible on OneDrive. Some time ago I risked losing data both on the base memory and on the backup one, so I would like to create a data redundancy on the cloud. We are talking about more than 2 TB of data. Thanks and ciao.
I assume by "external memory" you REALLY mean "external hard disk". Memory refers to the RAM in your computer. I'm not aware of a way to make OneDrive back up the contents of an external removable hard drive. Sorry.
Hello, I use the files on demand option and on my pictures and RAW photo images folders I'll see the blue outlined cloud icon, but it seems that these folders are still taking up space on my tablet even though I restricted them to only online? I've checked every single storage property on my C: drive and the only one that has the most space is when I look at the One Drive folder in my C: drive. Please help.
There are easy ways to manage OneDrive when it’s bigger than your disk.
it's just knowing where to click!

Excellent content! It is so efficient and well organized. Leo has most probably been doing this for a while.

Not sure what your ultimate goal is, but a good backup program and an external drive would work nicely.
tahnk you Leo...
