Based on what i've read regardings of MHA x BSD crossovers; (and basely on this ff and also because quirks can literally become anything in other fanfics) A quirk is a mutation of the human genetic form that allows a ordinary human to possess power and is literally based on genes. Meanwhile, A ability is a random superpower given to a ordinary human in a young age and is, according to fanfictions and in canon, very rare unlike a "quirk" as it is not genetic and can vary. (And, it is said that Abilities are actually a older version of a quirk and is more powerful than it) I hope this makes sense and it's accurate, it's been a while since i've read MHA x BSD crossover ffs.
