Ep 29 | Can Women be Pastors or Elders? | Redeeming Truth

  • A listener recently asked, “What is your view on women holding the title of ‘Pastor’ or ‘Elder?’” While this can be a loaded question in today’s world, it has nothing to do with equality (since we’re all equal in value and salvation in God’s eyes), and everything to do with roles in marriage and ministry. Like a winning team, God has designed certain positions for us to play as we “win” for His glory together.
In this episode of #RedeemingTruth Pastors Jon Benzinger and Costi Hinn dig into what the Bible has to say about the high calling and unique roles that both women and men have from God.
During the podcast, the following sermon from Titus 1:6 was referenced on the qualification of elders - • Paul's Letter to Titus...

I have wondered why this topic is so confrontational when the Bible says it is not a woman's role.

This is great and women should NOT take any offense to this. Every team should have a leader and support and both parties are necessary for success.

Book of Titus teaches who women should teach and that is children and young women on how to be responsible wives to their own husband's.

Amen! Thank you for speaking to this, Pastors Jon & Costi! We definitely need to applaud and appreciate our men more for the incredibly DIFFICULT role they are given in leading us! Feminism doesn't do ANYONE any favors.. Women are GIFTED with the opportunity to submit to (and at the same time, be covered by) their leadership. Why would we shirk such protection, and seek to take on their burden of responsibility??
Thank you for Biblically addressing such an important misconception and departure from scripture in far too many churches these days.

At 09:50 he meant to say misandry not misanthropy.
    Misandry: hatred for men
    Misanthropy: hatred for humankind

I understand all the explanation and biblical justification, but what are we going to do when there are shortages of pastors ?, as there is now in the Catholic Church and in many Protestant churches. More women than men go to my church, and men are seniors, this is a problem, they have already closed churches because there are no pastors ... what does the Bible say about this situation?

Thank you for a really helpful video on this challenging subject. However, as a pastor too, I have a question:
My background has been complimentarian, but within the past couple of years I have become convinced that Scripture is clear on the role of women in the church. However I still pastor two small churches, both of which accept women preaching. One is part of a denomination that explicitly promotes this (United Reformed Church in England). The other is an Independant Congregational church. How would you handle this?
Clearly it is not biblical to allow women to preach in the whole church setting, or for women to be elders, but this is what they have done for many years. I try to preach faithfully week by week, and both churches seem to be growing in their knowledge of, and love for God. Do I simply keep on doing this, and trust that over time God will sort this out? What would you advise?

What would you say to those Christians that use the passage that woman were the 1st to see Jesus after he arose and went and testified to that thus can be a pastor? Can woman go to bible college/seminary and then be children's pastor and woman's pastor over woman's ministry

I will say though that from being in the world the reason so many view this is wrong and have such a hard time accepting it is because of how its been abused by men, use against women as in an abusive way, and not understanding why God would be ok with women being treated this way knowing it would be used in such a way. I don't think women can fully understsnd until the Holy Spirit reveals it to you and helps you to understsnd. I can understsnd the reason why women hate men yet I see how those feelings biblically are wrong.

Howdie! My name is Lindsey, I'm from Spokane, WA. I'm curious what your biblical position for women leading praise and worship. And to take that further, be in charge of the music portion, choosing songs, leading songs, etc. Leading the band, basically. This is how our church functions right now and I'm curious whether this is a biblical way of doing so.

If you’re taking the verses in The New Testament as your authority, women CANNOT lead. You just said women lead at your church. Paul said women must learn silently (learn). Women weren’t allowed to do that back then and it wasn’t God who made that rule. It was people. Do women wear head coverings in your church? Probably not. Those verses are in the same section as the ones about women in leadership. It’s contextual for the time. I’m sorry. I agree with you on a lot of issues, but not this one.
