    • @selasmama4499

Yes, I hear you! I’m from western Oregon and now live in western Washington. Your comment made me laugh as it reminds me of my new neighbor from California thrilled to have a mound of “wild” Himalayan blackberries in his yard. While I was fighting mine down to the roots next door, he actually started propagating more from cuttings! Our Himalayas, which are invasive and we fight, were actually introduced to the PNW by a guy named Luther Burbank and it quickly became invasive. They’re also disgusting to eat, in my opinion. Though they are notoriously good at feeding rats and invasive bird species. Big, bitter seeds and lacking in concentrated flavor. It always amazes me to see folks picking them along roads as if they’re scoring delicious, free fruit. It makes perfect sense to grow better varieties in the garden! I’m planting Marionberry this year. Happy gardening!

Thank you, Laura, for this tidbit of information. I know your video is on blackberries, but at the end you talked about gathering your strawberries together into a waist-high type of raised garden, and THAT is what really caught my attention today. BINGO! Sam's Club has a raised container planter that is 44" X 18" X 33" high for just over a hundred dollars in my Middle TN, Zone 7 area. I'd already decided that I am going to invest in one of them this season for my back deck area, but was still mulling over what I wanted to plant in it. Meanwhile, I also have a large, plastic wash tub of strawberries that will be going on it's third summer, I believe. That container is aged and cracking and needing to be replaced. So now, because of your nonchalant side comment about strawberries at the end, I am going to transplant my strawberries, and add to them, into that raised garden that I want from Sam's. It will be perfect. Thank you for the inspiration you give. THANK YOU so much for sharing your lives with us! May God continue to bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand.

13:51 Some kind of katydid eggs. I google it for you Laura: Katydid, (family Tettigoniidae), also called long-horned grasshopper or bushcricket, also spelled bush cricket, the common true katydid (Pterophylla camellifolia) produces the repetitive song for which katydids are named; the song is phoneticized as “katy-did, katy-didn’t.” They are especially abundant in the tropics, particularly in the Amazon Rainforest, but are also found in cooler and drier regions, such as the heathlands of Australia, the deserts of the United States, and parts of Canada and northern Europe. They typically are found living on trees, bushes, or grasses, often matching the appearance of their surroundings.

Laura, you are such an inspiration to me. Not only in your garden and work, but in your priorities and family life as well. I first found your channel when Covid broke out, and while I was furloughed from work, I would sit at home and watch your older episodes while dreaming about my home, family, and garden. What a bright spot you were in those uncertain days! You and I were also pregnant around the same time. I had my first baby in May of last year. Watching you keep moving and gardening even as your due date approached encouraged me to keep working too! Now, I spend each morning with my “me time” watching your posts. New mamas don’t tend to get a lot of me time, and I eagerly anticipate each morning because of you. It’s also fun to see Samantha Grace growing, because I know my baby won’t be far behind her! I love how you do what you love, provide for your family, and make both of them priority in their time. I want to be the same way. Watching you, I know I can do it too. Thank you for sharing your gifts and time with all of us folks you’ll never meet. Anybody else wish they could be like Laura when they “grow up,” like me? -Ivy

I would recommend trying black raspberries in the future, also. Our property came with a bed of black raspberries. They make the most flavorful jelly. They do need to grow a distance away from raspberries, because they are prone to have some disease the wouldn’t be good for raspberries. It’s been 7 yrs and so far I haven’t seen it. (Zone 4A here) I’m in Wisconsin, not quite at the planting stage but can get out to down my raspberry canes and prune grape vines. So ready to see GREEN again. Thank you and Aaron for all the inspiration that gets us through late winter months. But I would trade the 4 seasons for anything else. Julie

My parents have blackberry bushes in southern California, my Mom planted 3 branches she got from her brother who cut them from wild blackberries on his property near Yosemite. She literally stuck them into the ground near a border fence and they grew and spread and took over the whole fence that I think is about 30 feet long and 6 feet tall and they reach over the fence all the way to the ground on the other side into the neighbors side yard and they have to cut them back just so they don’t grow into the walkway but they let them grow and harvest too. My Mom fills her freezer with what she harvests and gives away a lot to neighbors and family and can’t harvest it all. The birds love them too. They have been growing there for now over 20 years and she has never fertilized them, my Dad has cut them back every few years when they get too thick. They are the biggest, juiciest and sweetest blackberries I have ever had and we have no idea what kind they are but it’s now impossible for me to eat any other blackberries.

The eggs on tree may be katydid, angular wing or broad winged. Also, long ago you asked about your old stair way what the decorations in the corners were, they are called dust corners, I saw them in a catalog called Van Dykes Restorers.

I found eggs just like that on my star jasmine a few months ago. A bug friend of mine identified them as Katydid eggs, as it’s warmed up here in New Orleans (zone 9b) I’ve been seeing Katydids all around my back yard!

I am from the western side of Oregon where blackberries are a nuisance. When I moved out of state I had job as a cashier. A customer came came through my line with a blackberry plant and I was so confused! I could not believe what I was seeing and told them I should have been in the blackberry selling business!

Same here! I was thinking of all the blackberries we killed, hacked back etc. watching them being planted on purpose! Now that we live in a state without them, I kinda miss them. haha!

We had a WALL of them grow along the edge of our South West WA property. People there use pigs to eradicate blackberries.🤔

Lovin your raised beds for the berries. You guys put a lot of thought into your beds and I know you’ll have a bumper crop of blackberries next year. We planted 3 little thornless blackberry plants on our very small subdivision lot 2 years ago and this past year our vines were loaded with very large sweet berries and they just kept on producing berries all summer. The plants were nothing special, got them from WalMart. Only wish I had enough room for more.

We have a blackberry plant that was literally left for dead for years. It got replanted to a different location and watered regularly. Now we have a large blackberry patch with huge juicy fruit. It produces for at least 5-6 weeks maybe longer. The trick is lots of water. I wish we had put more thought into making a few rows to keep it tidy. I'm in Utah BTW. Had a friend who grows raspberries and hasn't had much success with blackberries. I think we got lucky.

Great job. Covered quite a bit today. Blackberries and raspberries are so good and healthful. Can’t wait to see how they do - along with all the things! Nice to see your mom, and dad. It looks like you’re wearing down your dad’s resistance to being on camera! 🤣👍. Samantha Grace is so cute! 💚💚💚

Your excitement for each project is contagious and gets me excited for my own spring plantings! I've watched you for years now and have grown so much in my knowledge of gardening. I've been taking gardening classes with Laura! I've noticed you have continually adapted your drip system installation method. I'm assuming as you learn what works and doesn't you keep working to perfect it. Isn't that the beauty of gardening in general? In this video, you are using clamps to secure the tubing to the barbed connectors. I love this idea and wondered if you could share the sources of the clamps used as well as the clamping tool. Thanks so much!

Did Laura just say “Nespresso has changed my life”?! I’m a Nespresso employee and I always get such a thrill seeing my favorite creators loving our coffee. It’s a wonderful company to work for too. I just wish they’d put me in charge of influencer sponsorships, lol!

So much geeat info in this video! Glad to know what Katydid eggs look like, that would have grossed me out for sure. And the transition with your fancy coffee from the barn to the garden was 🤌 I had to go back and watch that again. So clever, your team!
