    Such a shame that we expect Draisaitl and McDavid to take discounts while Darnell Nurse stole 9.25 mill. If Nurse was paid 4 million like he should’ve been we wouldn’t have to worry about nickel and diming Draisaitl and McDavid

      Nurse didn't steal anything, his agent negotiated the deal with oilers management, and nurse accepted. Blame edmonton for signing the deal, not Nurse.

    I like McD's praise of players who took a cut or small raise in their contract to stay in Edmonton because they want a chance for another cup run like McD wants and I hope the top players want to follow suit!

    If they both sign, it's a huge win. To watch these players in an Oilers jersey for 16 + seasons - awesome.......

    It's important to note that both Connor and Leon are now a We. Connor is married and Leon is engaged. When you become a "We" you have to factor the other into your decisions. While Leon's significant other's last film was shot in Leduc Alberta she normally works either in Ontario or BC. That has to factor into his decisions (and hers). Thanks for the breakdown. While I hope Connor, Leon, Bouchard, and eventually Stuart Skinner (and others of course) make the choice and try to keep it fair but on the lower side of fair to help the team they aren't compelled to. Especially when you're a "We" and your significant other may have to move or spend long blocks away from their spouse due to their job. Performers go where the movie is but when 80% of your movies are based out of or near Toronto that is the home base you want to be in. While Connor's wife has a business with offices both here and in Ontario she seems to do a lot of business here so she's not as impacted.
    Take care all.

      @SF1886 Humn, not that I'm aware of. He became engaged June 26th, 2023 which is AFTER his last contract was signed in 2018/2019. While they may have been "dating" or "living together" they weren't engaged (or now married).

      Toronto can't afford him, Buffalo is no where near being a contender so there's that. BUT - as I've said many time, and yes Pocklington was in a pickle, - Gretzky was traded because he ASKED for it - and he WANTED to go to L.A. where his wife worked. Pocklington took the blame of course but if you peel back the layers, you'll see the truth. So though I don't agree with your Draisaitly assessment, I wouldn't be shocked if it went down like that.

      @@KptKrunch9481 I wouldn't exactly call it an assessment, I'd call it more concern. While it's not like she's currently an Oscar caliber actress she works regularly and working actors tend to work, with promotion if any, about 1/3rd to 1/2 of the year with the rest being time between. Maybe it's enough and it works. Maybe she works less and closer to home. It's up to them but, again, they are now a them or a we.

    As soon as Bruce started talking about Crosby, my anxiety went down. Imagine since Crosby was Mcdavid’s idol, and he took a pay cut to win, then if Mcd does it too.
    Would be something, since Mcd hasn’t won, and him heading into a 10 th season. Pray lol

    I think Jeff Jackson would of made a great GM, but because of his history as McDavid's agent and knowing 29 & 97's contracts are coming up, it would have put him in an awkward and conflicting situation. Hence the Bowman hiring to have a fresh face and eyes on these negotiations.

    I love Draisaitl as a player and he deserves a big salary but I am of the opinion that the Oilers cannot afford two superstars. For 13 million a year you can afford 2-3 really good players.

    I would think a player like McDavid would figure out that actually winning the Stanley Cup would be more valuable in endorsements than an extra couple million on his contract. He controls his own destiny.

    It’s obvious if McDraisittles both take less than what they are worth, then it shows their commitment to the franchise and to winning. It’s indisputable the income they bring to the Oilers. So instead of paying them
    More against the cap, could they not compensate with franchise shares that they could cash in on in the future?

    I will throw one more argument in here, that will stir a lot of debate. A large majority of the US has been viewing for the last 30+ years, a lot of aspects of European life as 'communist'. Sometimes joking, sometimes seriously, Americans call 'french mineral water' as communist. Or amount of holiday from an employer or sindicates as 'communist'. And YET, the salary cap I encounter here in sports, is MORE COMMUNIST than any communism in Europe! I know soccer players who are 3 times LESS TALENTED than say Draisaitl, such as Kimmich, Goretzka, Gnabry , Sane, all Bayern Munich players, EACH OF THEM EARNING 20M Euros (or at least 22M$ per year). They play 34 games per year plus another 10 or so for Champions League. The amount of EFFORT an NHL Player has to do like Drai with 100+ games, and the skills required to be on top are WAY WAY WAY ABOVE the soccer players at Bayern Munich. So how is it fair that whole North-America (and I mean by that the Owners and the NHL decision makers) to put the PROBLEMS and ISSUES of salary cap ON THE PLAYERS, when it is a matter that HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PLAYERS? It is not the players who need to sacrifice, it is the OWNERS AND THE NHL decision makers who need to update the CAP seriously particularly for the NHL. On top of that, a ticket at Bayern for a game is 20-40 Euros, a ticket for the Oilers is at least 10 times higher! So a RIP OFF FROM THE OWNERS and decision makers of the NHL, and am TIRED to hear that Draisaitl has to sacrifice to ENABLE the Oilers to win the Stanley Cup. If he can be paid 14 million, he should be paid 14 million, and with that he will earn nearly half as the less talented Kimmich, Goretzka, Sane, Gnabry...

    like the boys said McDavid & Draisaitl can and should be paid, in the next few years, but to win you need a competitive team. Salary Cap rules state that a contract can drop 35% per year, with the lowest year not less than 50% of the largest year. McDavid last contract was $100M/8yrs, $12.5AAV and the breakdown was - Yr-1 $15M, Yr-2 $15M, Yr-3 $14M, Yr-4 $13M, Yr-5 $12M, Yr-6 $11M, Yr-7 $10M, Yr-8 $10M.
    So you can pay them well at 28 $72/6yrs is $12 AAV Yr-1 $15M, Yr-2 $15M, Yr-3 $12M, Yr-4 $12M, Yr-5 $10M, Yr-6 $8M. That is a 3 year $14M AAV OR a 4yr $13.5M AAV.
    If you add 2 more years at 50% say $7.5M when he is 35 & 36 years old, their AAV drops to $10.875M/year, that lets you sign better players. There is a way to make them the highest players in the league and keep a solid team.

  • @happytrails151
    @happytrails151 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    A big problem is that Leon's deal ends first. Will he take less AAV on faith that McDavid does so, or that McDavid will even be an Oiler? Im not saying that McDavid will leave but there is a non zero chance. If Drai takes less cash, and McDavid leaves, then Drai will be hating himself

    • @happytrails151
      @happytrails151 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Doesn't that assume that we know what McDavid has told him?. What if McDavid says "I want to stay in Edmonton but I will make the decision when it comes"? It's easy for us to say that Leon will sign because the risk is so low that McDavid leaves, but Leon has to live with it, and there is no reason to sign now

    It would be interesting to hear some discussion and Analysis about how the sponsorships and money that Superstars get outside of their player salaries can factor into the equation and negotiations. Surely, both men are worth more as Stanley cup-winning superstars, especially if they can go on a bit of a dynasty run and cement themselves as the greatest players. Wouldn't that open them up to very lucrative sponsorship deals that would thereby supplement their salaries with the Oilers?
    You're not going to see Janmark's face on a box of cereal (though I would buy that cereal!) and his income is derived entirely from his player salary. He takes a cut with no chance for external upside whereas Mc D and Drai stand to make tons of money outside their salary - ESPECIALLY as perennial Cup champions

  • @Sarek_is_King
    @Sarek_is_King 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Tampa and the other Florida Teams have the tax advantage for the players, so their contracts pay them much more net than they would if they played in Canada.

    I don't think when you marry an actress (Drai), it matters WHERE you live or play or work. An actor is filming movies all over he world, a professional player is 75% of the time on the road. Both have financial means to meet ANYWHERE and LIVE ANYWHERE. There isn't a job dictating the location, as both jobs are very 'mobile'. On the money, I don't believe either of them will go under a certain threshold, which I view as 13 for Drai and 14.5 for McDavid. If Drai travels every couple days all over the continent, why wouldn't his wife travel every weekend to Edmonton? Would it make sense other than in the derailed mind of Canucks for Drai to sign in Vancouver because his wife films in BC? And her next show may be in Florida or LA or Paris? Complete non-sense to contemplate BC because a movie being filmed here or there.

    Bob Stauffer, who I love is dead wrong here. If Draisatl makes more than 11 its too much for a winning club.
    It had to be less than 25%, no one has won over 22.2%. If it's closer to 30% we're fucked.
    Nurse has been bad for 100 games now. I don't see him getting better now. That's who he is now.
    Both Leon and Connor are getting married. I don't see them now getting less money because of that. Unless those woman are very conservative.
