I love watching people react to this version...........I was in the crowd that July day in 1986 as a young 18yr soldier who'd just finished basic training. I'm now almost 54yrs old and this is still the best concert I've ever attended, Freddie was a genius #RIP

This was written for the love of Freddie's life, Mary Austin. It became Queen's first audience participation song, there are several others that joined it's ranks, but only two that were written specifically for that purpose "We Will Rock You" by Brian May and "We are the Champions" by Freddie Mercury, these great sports anthems are known to the world, but only a small percentage of non Queenies know where they came from.
The original Studio version, as written by Freddie, makes use of the whole band, but this acoustic version was arranged by Brian May specifically for live performances and was never recorded in a studio.

The first deliberate aidience participation song was Freddies in the lap of the Gods revisited
He wrote love of my life when he had left Mary for David Minns.
He never said it was for Mary that's just been assumed.
According to John Reid Freddie told him it was for David
I think it was probably more inspired by the whole situation and everyones emotions
      Mary supported him straight away

Of course Freddie loved Mary, considered her his common-lew-wife ... but I really think, THE AUDIENCE was the REAL "live of his life".

Freddie and Queen were the soundtrack of so much of my life, from passing off (graduation) party for the British Army partying to the newly released "We are the Champions" to my first, and finally lasting love. Four incredible, talented musicians with a front man, who when asked by a reporter, "What did he play", replied 'The audience, dear boy, the audience' The greatest rock band ever. RIP Freddie and I miss you still.

Well, Freddie used to be an exception in "rock heaven" in general, be it his voice, his works, but certainly also his appearances on stage. Especially this live recording with the audience singing shows what a great performer he was, who was also able to involve the audience. When the fans sing along to the song, what greater accolade can there be for an artist? All this is probably the reason why this recording of the song is probably one of the most beautiful.

This was written for the absolute, true love of his life Mary Austin, even though he came out later, she remained his true love until the day he died, he promised to always look after her, a promise he always kept, even to this day.
Freddie was a brilliant Musician, singer, songwriter, instruments, all 4 could do it all, all 4 are very highly educated. Freddie could make a person sitting up the back of a massive stadium and make them feel he was singing only to them, he LOVED having the crowd be part of the show, getting them to sing back, he was a true genius, a very thoughtful, loving person, who lived life beyond its fullest. He knew he was sick during this and was in decline, but wanted to make most of the time he had left, creating 2 new albums and almost finished a 3rd but it had to be finished with what bits and pieces they had recorded. a truly loved band by their fans, 59 years later (now) people are learning about them, hearing real music, exploring other incredible talents, awakening from the mind numbing crap so prevalent today. I urge you to keep exploring. This is what music should be. He was so thoughtful, his trusted assistant and friend was given access to a chunk of his money, so he could keep giving presents to those most dear well after his death. He lived giving gifts, it's what made him happy, as well as being in Queen.

@@DoIttMiaaaa at one of the early Japanese concerts, Freddie met a mother and her daughter in the passageway between stage and his room. They gave him a small gift, a token to say thanks, he asked them to stay there, he went to a nearby vending machine, he bought two little cheap necklaces or keychain can't remember which, both could be broken. He broke the hearts in two, and have one half of each to the mother and the daughter, and kept the other 2 halves himself, his way of saying thank you and that they would forever be a part of his heart. He truly was a very thoughtful person

    Good Morning, Mia!
I know you've asked for recommendations for other music, too (that's not "just" Queen, I mean).
SO... HERE'S A LINK to a live performance by GEORGE MICHAEL, that I think you would like...
"LIVE KILLER"/"PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE" performed in 1993 at a charity show for AIDs - the Princess Trust Concert For Hope - that was sponsored by Princess Diana (she's in the audience).
I ADORE George as much as I do Freddie! He has the voice of an Angel, and was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL person inside (he passed away a few years ago).
This is my ALL-TIME FAV live piece that I've seen by him, I think. (His most famous/most reacted to performance is actually a cover of "Somebody To Love", performed at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992 - which I think you would also LOVE - but I think this even TOPS that! For some reason, this footage seems to be under most reactors' radar... I've only seen it reacted to a couple of times, which is a BIG shame!)
....George's own romantic partner, Anselmo Feleppa, had actually died of AIDs earlier in the same year as this concert. (I don't think very many people know that... George was intensely private, and at this time he had NOT yet "come out"; that didn't happen until many years later.)

(I mentioned the date because there are actually TWO Wembley concerts:
    Friday, July 11 & Saturday, July 12
For THIS song, the Friday July 11 performance is MY FAV because it’s VERY “RAW” & EMOTIONALLY INTENSE 😳

When Freddie was asked what instrument he played, he said "The audience, Darling!"😄
There's another version at Rio in 1985 where the audience was between 250,000 to 400,000 people (the Wembley audience is "only" 70-some-odd thousand)... and the Rio audience - who DIDN'T speak any English - literally serenaded Freddie & Brian with the WHOLE song! (Their singing was quite loud.)
In current times, guitarist Brian May always performs this song as a tribute to Freddie. Brian plays/sings the first part of the song (with the audience's help, of course)... and THEN, for the last chorus... a LARGER THAN LIFE Freddie comes walking out on stage on a giant video screen, and he actually leads the audience in singing the last bit. (There's never a dry eye in the house; sometimes Brian cries too.😪) It's a BEAUTIFUL tribute to their friendship!

OMG - LOVE OF MY LIFE 💟 Written by Freddie (IMO) about long-time friend & former fiancée Mary Austin! I think it’s from Mary’s perspective .. my guess! Their romance ended when Freddie revealed his sexuality but Mary had suspected long before that! She remained an integral part of Freddie’s life even working for his management company & going on tour with Queen! Freddie left Mary with over 50% of his estate after his death! Mary commented that Freddie was her eternal love 💝

@@DoIttMiaaaa , yep. Back in the 80's it was the stadium era. Promoters would arrange these huge tours and sell out stadiums. It was not unusual to have 70-80 thousand people at these venues. Standing room only. You had tickets with Van Halen, Def Leppard, Black Sabbath, and AC/DC all on the same ticket. Huge concerts. Queen could easily draw a crowd of 100,000 or more by themselves. Last concert I went to in 2000 had poison, warrant, Dokkan, slaughter, Cinderella, killer dwarfs, Winger all performing that day. There was easily 70,000 people there that day. We were all in our 30's living our nostalgia. I still have my tickets to the 1988 at Sullivan stadium.
