Unbelievably, I just used my new heat gun @ 750 watts to revive my T61. I was doing it blind, but I tried 2 mins at about 10" and 1 minute at about 4-10, with about a 67% / 33% split. Just did a test boot, and it works like a charm. Hope it lasts until the T440s comes out!

Your video is great! I followed your steps exactly and got my DV9740 video to function again. I'll see how long it holds up. After cleaning the dust out thoroughly and placing a large shim between the chip and heat-sink it may run cooler and hold up better than when it was OEM.

We try to reball many 6150, 8400, 8600 IC's + copper shim and AC ceramique grease, but they work for a few days and blow off. Only replacing with a new, 2011 and later maniactured IC fix the problem for long time. If you want, you can share your opinion at P.M.. Thanks.

Thanks for listing the music, I like it. Not sure if the technician was able to repair my DSL plug in for internet (unsure of name), he has to use the Wifi from the neighbor he's very poor but he mentioned he will check this out also.
How long did poor technician's work hold? Is your laptop still working, was the repair worth? I have one to repair and I am wondering if reflow is worth, or reball is the only solution

It's generally a temporary fix. You heat it above the temperature which caused the solder underneath the GPU chip to melt and solidify in a bad shape (creating a bad contact). You fix it and you sell it or if you think you are lucky and it will work for a long time, you keep it.

Tin melting temperature around 220-250c and that's should the maximum temperature and heat at this temperature for 4-6 minutes. Pour liquid flux around the chipset .. Many video in TH-cam how to put flux correctly, then Use aluminum tape to cover surrounding the chipset Use heat gun start with low setting and heat the chipset and surrounding evenly around 80c for first 3min, then focus evenly on the gpu chipset slowly increase to 230c for 5min, then lower the temperature slowly to 60c for 3min, let it cool down. Wash with alcohol or acetone with brush,.
what r u talking about? He doing it good. i repairing this chips with reflow too and my notebooks work for 9 months after reflow. problem is bad cooling after few years, not the bad joint after reflow.
Its also a bit easter if you put a heavy weight on the chip so it settles on the board better. But you do have to watch your temp as it could melt the pins together. Great video. Works on mac too
Hi I just did this for the second time (did it a few months back last year) and now it turns on and immediately back off? Does anyone know whats required to hook up for the test run??

i have lenovo W500 with ATI Fire GL V5700 got problem (distortion images then black out). Now i'm using the integrated intel 4500MHD, it can help me do some exercise with 3D apps. When i had this notebook repaired, some technician told me in W500, the ATI chip is glued so it can not be re-flowed by using heat gun or IR re-flow station . so will this video help me fix discrete vga problems in lenovo W500 ?
"v" No, it is not. Speaking as a former HP repair tech, re-balling the GPU and then fixing the thermal module with a proper copper shim totally solves the problem of the GPU getting too hot and de-soldering itself. Now, the other problems that HP laptops have.... well it's still all on the fault of the engineers. Preheating the bottom of the motherboard is a BAD idea, as the DV9000 logic boards have components right on the bottom side of the GPU. They like to fall off.

Tin melting temperature around 220-250c and that's should the maximum temperature and heat at this temperature for 4-6 minutes. Pour liquid flux around the chipset .. Many video in TH-cam how to put flux correctly, then Use aluminum tape to cover surrounding the chipset
Use heat gun start with low setting and heat the chipset and surrounding evenly around 80c for first 3min, then focus evenly on the gpu chipset slowly increase to 230c for 5min, then lower the temperature slowly to 60c for 3min, let it cool down. Wash with alcohol or acetone with brush,.
I've done a successful repair using this method and indeed, it works. But what's with the red background? What does it mean?
what r u talking about? He doing it good. i repairing this chips with reflow too and my notebooks work for 9 months after reflow. problem is bad cooling after few years, not the bad joint after reflow.
Its also a bit easter if you put a heavy weight on the chip so it settles on the board better. But you do have to watch your temp as it could melt the pins together. Great video. Works on mac too
Hi I just did this for the second time (did it a few months back last year) and now it turns on and immediately back off? Does anyone know whats required to hook up for the test run??
you say max temp 120 c on 1:33 but you reach more than 160 on 2:56 as i see

I've used this method on 4 different dv series and it works just fine the first one I fixed 2 years ago is still working besides who is gonna pay 300 -700 dollars for a reballing on an old outdated dv series when for that money you can buy an i3 or i5? Todor Nikolov likes suckers who dish out money is what it is!
i have lenovo W500 with ATI Fire GL V5700 got problem (distortion images then black out). Now i'm using the integrated intel 4500MHD, it can help me do some exercise with 3D apps.
When i had this notebook repaired, some technician told me in W500, the ATI chip is glued so it can not be re-flowed by using heat gun or IR re-flow station .
so will this video help me fix discrete vga problems in lenovo W500 ?
won't this video also help 3 beeps ? the technician said that my laptop problem is video card... could this video help to fix my laptop ?
+Don-don Montejo Check your manufacturers website for beep code. Make and model will change beep code.
You say that the best solution is to replace with a new chip do you know the part number for this chip? and where can I get one?
Great stuff, i got a laptop for free, was going to get brought to repair will try it my sell definetly. Thank you, for sharing wideo

No, it is not.
They like to fall off.
a real reflow is needed, not this crap ...
Worked for me.
after that try to run furmark for a couple hours, best solution reball of change chip.
This metod damege video chip...this is temporary fix....

Not lifetime only few weeks..the best is reballing......dont make me wrong...
I just put on them a mounting tape, and and works perfectly w/o any hassle. trust me.
glad to know I can use a heat-gun instead of a pocket torch..

After reflow my pc works fine for few days. Then this problem starting again.
Any suggestions.?
my eng not so well.. im never try this stuff-but im good at pc...
it sounds like you should still heat it for 40[+] more secs.
it sounds that u have cooling problem! check especially your fan and whole laptop from dust include between the fan ITSELF to the metal stuff near the fan[dissasemble that part..] ..sometimes there is a lottt dust!
2.put some thermal paste!!!
3/ consider that maybe your fan is weak or faulty..[order new from ebay /whatever-or try to lubricate it with machines oil--**not wd-40!!!*
4. maybe you overload [thats the word?!] the pc.. so its overheat and break again the contact balls...[or if you block the air vents..like put it on matters-towel..etc. ]or if u not power off the pc/use it a lot on once boot.
*soo..reball again and do this things.. u can get USB COOLING PAD
hope i'm help!! update us!
.

IT-Master
I think you are right ,
Thanks for sharing this ,
what temperature not to exceed
Thanks & Regards
After doing this disable completely suspend option in your computer and take care with any major operating system update.
why?
It can have a dead sleep.
whats the name of the song pls.......
Ok it stucks again lol fuck this laptop i put it in trash this fucking samsung shit lol
1:09. No need for that heating gun, the DV9000 will take care of the overheating itself just by being powered on.
niice. wish i had seen this video before reflowing mine with a mini torch and a super expensive lazer thermometer like an idiot. which didnt help for too long so ended up having to throw it in the oven haha. heat gun and thermocouple thingies would have made it much easier lol
