  • Miles away from any town lies a neighborhood left stagnant and now overgrown for over 10 years. Many things remain inside this once thriving community. We find cars, homes left untouched and many children toys scattered all around. One day all those kids left along with their families and no one has returned since. Today , ‪@UrbexAndChill‬ and I check out what remains, if you enjoy the video leaves a thumbs up. and thank you for watching.

The land was then purchased by the Hasidic people who gave everyone a thirty day notice. They plan to build large housing for their people. So when everyone left they simply left what they didn’t want and weren’t going to clean after being kicked out.

Great explore. Very creepy how the place was abandoned all at once. My guess, legal issues. Not sure if the story told in the beginning was true but the property must have been deeded to a single owner. When they died the tenants were “locked out”. Ownership was in dispute and the doors were literally nailed shut. With mob involvement it’s no wonder the tenants just walked away. The neighbourhood may have been illegally developed in the first place & the land was returned to the owner. Probably no way to know without knowing where it is.

As many have said the recession happened in 08 & many people had refinanced due to seemingly low interest rates on older homes or had original adjustable rate mortgages. I grew up in the hood and ppl would get ladders and direct their own power to their homes when they got cut off. Dangerous but possible. The general reason why no one would have taken it is mostly cause the circumstance that caused it to be there, its in rough shape and basically needs to be rebuilt from the ground up... so it would be a project, but since its abandoned no one would know who to call to buy it and well it may have been stolen and ditched there years ago... notice how it has no plates... the circumstance is simply too odd, for someone to spend money on the car only to then have it taken away when trying to register it because its in a stolen vehicle report.

Most of South Florida was developed along The Eastern coast but didn't really stretch inland more than 10 or 15 miles. When hurricane Andrew wiped out most of Miami in 1992 everything just North Of Miami and South of West Palm Beach started pushing westward. My parents bought a house in West Boca Raton which to me Set like we were moving out to the middle of nowhere But very quickly there were brand new ultra modern subdivisions But very quickly there were brand new ultra modern subdivisions Popping up all around us. One in particular had a bunch of really cool looking Houses Which down here we referred to as "McMansions" Because the houses looked giant when placed on these little tiny lots. One subdivision in particular popped up next to The subdivision we lived in. Like most it was an enclosed gated community surrounded by a cement wall with Large gates and a guard shack just like ours. However something happened with the builder who went bankrupt or something and after the houses were built Construction stopped And the entire neighborhood stayed vacant. The city of Boca Raton being so image conscious and snobby made sure that the developer completed and maintained the landscaping and the Exteriors of the houses even though Not a soul lived in any of the 200 Houses. As obsessively Dozy S we were as a group of 9 year olds my friends and I plotted and attempted for weeks to get in to the place to investigate but It was impossible. The only view we had was if we stood On our own roofs and peered With binoculars. I know that sounds stupid but this was before drones and the Internet 🤣. It was so freaky because all the street lights were lit and All the floodlights aimed up at the Palm trees lit up and all the porch lights to the houses lit up but the place was dead. One day a landscapers truck left the front iron gate open long enough for About 6 of us 9 year olds to sneak in. We ran through the streets declaring which houses We were going to each move into as the coolest forts ever. It was the freaky is thing though because these houses were completely finished on the outsides And each of the houses even had manicured flowerbeds With fancy brick driveways and a running path around the Lake because all the houses were built on a big fake man made Lake with a fountain in the middle but inside the houses were completely stripped bare nothing but studs. No floors no ceilings no walls just studs. For some reason it scared the hell out of us and we booked it out of there. The place stayed empty like that for at least 2 years before and investor bought the property and the place quickly filled up with families but even though The neighborhood Was similar to ours The biggest difference was in South Florida they were real big on Seemed neighborhoods. Our neighborhood Had basically the identical houses except our subdivision head read Spanish tiles With an art Deco theme but that creepy place had Dark wood trim with dark wooden looking shingles on the roof which didn't really look like anything else in South Florida at the time. What's worse is that before the bankruptcy the planned name for the community was Cuesta Verde Which was the name of the neighborhood in the original movie Poltergeist! Oh my Christ when we found that out I don't think any of us slept for like 3 weeks. Not Having any concept about Bankruptcy's and Jewish banking tricks we were convinced the reason the neighborhood stayed empty for so long was because it was built on a cemetery! Every development at the time had a Spanish sounding name So I'm sure they just pulled the name cuesta Verde Out of their asses but It really tormented the minds of a bunch of 9 year olds who were allowed to watch too much HBO🤣🤣🤣🤣

I live in Upstate NY and I bought an abandoned house that's located in Otselic near Georgetown. I'd love to see this neighborhood one of these days. I don't break into houses or vandalize places either...unless they're about to have a rendezvous with a wrecking ball. It's highly unlikely that the Mafia made everybody leave. They probably left in a hurry because of the 2008 recession and their utilities were shut off. Mats stapled to the windows? Someone probably used a few of these homes as trap houses for drug deals. Weird how one street light was left on though. I want to explore with you guys one of these days. You seem very chill and down to earth.

These houses all have different styles and floor plans. I doubt it was ever a resort, or if it was, it was a place where you bought a lot and built your own place. Anyone building a resort would use only one or two floor plans (based on size) as it would be much cheaper than using all kinds of plans, different types of siding, etc. The long building with the small apartments would be what would have been a resort, if anything.

That's not necessarily true all the time. I live in a neighborhood that started out as a little resort/camping area and the older original houses are different from each other. We have a lot of cabins with their own personality and the house directly across from me is an A-frame stone design. It was originally a church. It's a super cool little neighborhood with a lot of character. My cabin was built in 1925. The oldest part of the neighborhood was built around 1898. This abandoned neighborhood kind of reminds me of mine.

I would bet that your guess about the rugs & bags on windows is exactly right. Since the registration number of a boat you showed is for New York state, I'm assuming this is in New York. I'd guess New York has squatters and homeless just like anywhere else in the U.S. (I'm in S.C.). There was also a kerosene heater in one of the houses, which was likely used for heat by squatters/homeless, although I've seen some people use them for heat in houses that have power and are actively lived in.

  • @talyn3932
    @talyn3932 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

Almost everything shown is from the mid to late 2000s This wasn't a decades situation. I would guess it was less dramatic and people moved away over time as things decayed. People outgrow kids items and they are the most common item left behind when people move. The fact that some houses were in more disrepair than others says that people left in a trickle, not a flow. A fridge wouldn't smell after a couple years, let alone decades.
Still power to that transformer also tells me that the most recent resident is either still there, has the place in holding, or just recently left.
Honestly, these were probably dorm housing for a company, school, or army base, If I were to guess.
I just can't believe the mafia story as the reason for the abandonment, especially since your dates couldn't possibly line up to what was left behind... like at all.

In Pennsylvania there is a small town where no one lives anymore, but the lights still are on in every house still there. Also, about 10 years before they tore down the old Sunland facility in Tallahassee, FL the power was still on in that facility and had guards on premises 24/7.
There are places and abandoned state hospitals, facilities that still have utilities running for whatever the reason. It gets overlooked. Especially if it was a small little township, hamlet or whatnot.
Edit: the abandonment of this place seems to have happened not all at once either. It seems to have been a trickle, or some left and others stayed. The things over the windows could have been there because if a state orders a small township to be evacuated for some reason, and the people decide to stay, they would be defying orders. Hence putting up the rugs, or bags. Or, it’s squatters hiding from the few remaining people actually living there.
I agree that this could be repurposed for our vets or the homeless that are in need. A lot of these houses were in decent condition.
This was a really excellent video. Beautiful. Thank you so much.

I'm going with ex military housing. The officers were in the larger homes and the apartments were the enlisted. This explains all of the toys. When the government shuts it down, this is exactly what it looks like. I live by the old Fort Ord. Kind of looks the same. No boarded up windows. Nothing. Just abandoned. The government closed a bunch of locations in this time period, too.
