I didn’t know that special lubes for cubes existed so i decided to add Vaseline and cooking oil and even coconut oil to see if it gets any better. It kinda did, but the exact thing happened to me. Oh I also thought the making the cube wet by soaking it in water is somehow gonna help, it didn’t. The screws got extremely rusty to the point that they broke.
when I first started getting into speedcubing, it was after I got a rebranded mf3 from a random store It was my first good cube and it got me want to try getting faster I started to get faster and the cube was starting to get too slow for me so I thought maybe if I added some sunflower oil, it'll turn better so I did. Problem was the effect only lasts for a few days so I'd end up having to "re-lube it" often eventually got my hands on an mf3rs2m and some proper silicon lubes from a local cube shop and instantly got faster and more consistent times. when I tried going back to my old mf3 tho (this was only like a few months of not using it) it had that weird sticky feeling as well one day I wanted to try and get better at pyraminx but realized I had lubed it with silicon oil in the past and it was weird and sticky too I cleaned it with soap and water and when I dried it, it would still feel the same... I got most of it off by rubbing each piece individually with water downed rubbing alcohol when I applied proper lube on it tho, the residue is pretty much gone so you should be fine

It didnt dry out in the cube and it didnt become sticky and im actually suprised on how good it is. The lube can last a few months until you have to relube the cube again. Not really. Most cubes slow down because they are not kept clean. Any of those puzzles would be back to normal with a good cleaning of the dust the builds up. The idea that cubes "need" lube is a big misconception. They are not engines turning at 2000 rpm and they are very lightly fit plastic parts. Lube is something many people use to adjust the feeling of puzzles but cubes will not degrade from a lack of it.

Don't use mineral oils for cubes. Cubes are generally made of ABS, which dissolves in mineral oil! ABS is actually fairly notorious for being easy to dissolve in a wide range of solvents. An exception are the custom 3d printed puzzles you might get from somewhere like Shaeways. IIRC these are nylon, which is much more chemically resistant than ABS. Still, know your materials if you're going to try this! You want a silicone oil. I actually use a bottle from my local hobby store formulated for use as transmission oil in RC cars. It's a silicone oil and has to not attack ABS since ABS gearboxes are pretty common, even if the plastic gears themselves are (hopefully) nylon. It makes the puzzles turn better than without for sure. Don't use too much or the mechanism will indeed get slightly sticky. One or two drops is plenty for simple puzzles. You want to get it down deep into the puzzle mechanism, especially for large complicated puzzles with lots of shells. I find a plastic syringe is great for this. It will eventually collect grime, so every once in a while (or if you think you put too much in) it's good to take the puzzle apart, wipe down the pieces with a paper towel, then put it back together and relubricate. I used WD40 in a couple of cubes... yeah don't do that. If you really have to, go with CRC silicone although official cube lubes and vitress are better. @@SpeedCubeReview you made my day!
I used olive oil but my cubes have been just fine. Idk if i should keep using it until i get silicone lube...
Just lube your cubes with silicone spray it works good trust me and do not use cooking spray
where can u find silicone spray?
Any good place where you could buy lube in europe? Since buying from speedcubeshop only for lube seems kinda not worth the delivery (i really just need lube)
If theres hobby shops near u that sell rc car parts they might have traxxas 50k
@Another Random Cuber they havent 😔 but its a nice store tho, maybe I buy something from there the next time
@@Nox8t6 I got silicone lube, just wanted something less thick, maybe waterbased
@@Nox8t6 i think in that case it might be worth it to pay the shipping costs and get something thats made for a cube
well...... I used hair oil on my SM because i thought that the factory lube was entirely over and the honeycomb design would wear out if i did not add any lubricant (I did not have silicone lube at the time). I fully regret doing that.
what about treadmill silicone
you are late my wuque is shit now because i poured 1 drop of olive oil and 1 drop of hair oil
Don't experiment with a 4x4 lol
Yep but no worries I have ordered my aosu gts 2m but I will clean and lube my wuque afterwards
1:16 ryan george reference "barely an inconvenience"
Yep, i was also like that once. Now my GAN 356 air is ruined lmao
I use silicone shock oil
1:18 Oh really?
Wow that's the largest cube collection I have ever seen
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
Does lotion erode it too?
Hi how often should I lube my cube? I am a beginner cuber and I need advice .
Never if you like it. Cubes don't "Need" lube like cars need oil. It's more to change the feeling of it. If you don't like the feeling you can try to change it with lube or just leave it as is.
Oh. That's why superglue isn't a good lube.
was that a pitch meetings reference
I made a lube and it damaged my cube now it is a lot slower what can I do? My cube is MF3RS3 magnetic
i used hair cutter oil today thinking its been tested and worked and it worked but after watching this it got me scared that my gts3m would get damaged
yeah it probably did-
I lube my cube with an hitachi hair cutter lube
is it ok?
????
I used shampoo on my cube before. And at first it was good but when it dries it's hard to turn
I used WD40 in a couple of cubes... yeah don't do that. If you really have to, go with CRC silicone although official cube lubes and vitress are better. WD not only smells terrible it's also sticky and messes with the polymers in the plastic. If you have it in, clean it with a paper towel or cloth and use something more proper.
I mixed soap and oil in my mf3rs because why not and I thought it worked amazingly then left it for like. A week and came back to it and I did not turn I had to forcefully turn it to get it turning again so I ended up binning the cube
Before I got a good speed cube I lubed it with the spray silicone lube in the cans.... when you over lube it’s not good
