It's crazy that in the 80s they were advertising the Apple flavor of Apple Jacks. Because when I grew up in the 90s, their slogan was "why doesn't it taste like apples?"
i think i kinda did as a kid, i remember adding banana slices to my rice krispies and having some OJ too, but the OJ and milk and sweet cereal clashed and i didn't bother with the glass of milk, just drank what was left in the bowl.
That's why America has an obesity problem!! Its not enough to eat this sugary crap, you have to add more carbs and calories with all that other crap. And then they put M&M's and Nerds candies IN THE BOX of cereal! No wonder children are developing Type II Diabetes at such an alarming rate!
It really was. The S'mores one was as well, and I know they have a version of it today, but it's not the same. Having the graham and chocolate in one piece was better.
Carbs didn't matter so much back then because kids actually went OUTSIDE and burned them off instead of playing another 54-hour video game or sitting on their asses sending useless texts that will mean nothing when they've grown up.
msw0322 I think a lot of it has to do with the availability of technology today. I think it was actually 1985 when the NES was released, which resurrected the gaming industry after the crash of 1983. Even though the Atari 2600 (and other gaming consoles) was around beforehand, the arcade was the best place to go for video games. Today, we have the luxury of doing a ton of things from the comfort of our home.
I knew it! There were three cinnamon toast crunch guys before they got rid of the other two and just had the one. It was like something from my childhood that I remembered, but that was the first time I ever saw it again. Also watch to the very end because I also have an early memory of this, the Apple jacks commercials where they said they were "apply sweet" before they got on the whole "it doesn't taste like apples" thing... I know I can't be the only one who remembers this.

March 23, 2018-- all these commercials sounds and reminds me of children's Disney's and Universal Studios roller coaster rides.. They have T.V. before the roller coaster rides when you are standing in longest lines... Put it on loud speaker and bass and it really does sounds like it....
I just have to wonder if Henry Selick was at all involved in the animation for Circus Fun. It looks like his earlier animations and he did do commercial work before movies. It's possible.
AS (GEN X)KIDS, WE ALL RRMRMBER OUR MOM'S SAYING "NO" TO THESE CEREALS! Remember being a kid and bring in the store with mom. You'd eagerly grab a box of Rocky Road or Lucky Charms, only to hear those 4 awful words from mom: "No, put it back.", and with that, your cereal was vetoed! On rare occasions, she'd say yes. My dad saw the box of Lucky Charms, and said "What kind of new age cereal is this?" (New Age because of the marshmallow shapes)
The '80s had the coolest cereals. Unfortunately, I was rarely allowed to have those marshmallow cereals and had Cheerios or Special K instead. That might have been one of the reasons why I loved going to other people's houses because they would buy their kids those Monster cereals etc.
The good old days...I used to love cookie crisp & golden grahams, back when cereal actually tasted good, these same cereals are no near as good as they were back then. And oh Lucky Charms brings back memories, I remember just eating the marshmallows and leaving the rest of the cereal in the bowl, my mother got so pissed, she never bought me lucky Charms anymore after that!
No but you would have scrambled Eggs and and orange juice with your cereal and maybe some waffles/pancakes and some sausages. I use to eat the works on those days when I was really hungry, Especially in the winter
I like how accepting the mom in the S'mores crunch commercial is that a mysterious box of cereal just shows up in her house. If I were her, I would be like, "No, don't eat that, some lunatic must have broken into the house and left it there. It's probably poisoned. Pack your bags while I call the cops, 'cuz we're going to be spending a few days at your aunt's house."
Does anybody else think the kids in the General Mills cereal commercials were a bit . . . . . . mean? They keep trying to make Sonny cuckoo for Coco Puffs, they keep trying to catch Lucky for his Lucky Charms, and they never let that poor rabbit get his Trix . . . . . .
they always say "part of a complete breakfast", but the only thing i ever ate was a bowl of cereal. i've never known anyone who eats toast with their cereal. and a glass of milk? call me crazy but don't you already have milk in your cereal?
back in the 80s, where they were toys and candy inside of cereal...damn now! and Apple Jacks tasted like Apple...however only one of these cereals did not make it to our time, it would be nice for Big G (General Mills) to bring back some of the big 80s cereals back for a limited time as part of a "General Mills Cereal Throwback" I also remember that they had a Pac-Man, Ice Cream Cones, and Fruit Island Cereal!
All these commercials sell the idea that you're gonna have some kind of wonderfully productive day filled with lots of pep and punch thanks to the cold cereal you had for breakfast. Meanwhile I'm more apt to just eat it directly out of the box sans milk and then climb back into bed.
HAHAHAH Ironic the The Thundercats next commercial Coco Puffs Sonny the Coco bird was voiced by Larry Kenney who also voiced Lion-o Lord of the Thundercats!!hahah i still dont hear it but i seen him do it lol
In the land of the floops where sunshine never stops, the floops grow sugaroos. I was 10 when commercial came out in 68. Can't find it anywhere. Anyone remember?
80's commercials were the best!
Circus Fun, never heard of that cereal before.
Francisco Machaen they were discontinued
I could guess why, its like 85% marshmallows lol
Yeah like the nearly crunch one that one was a calasic
Circus fun was a delicious cereal!
iPhone
Sadly, I actually remembered some of these commercials. Thanks for the share...it truly aged me.
It feels funny to me when I watch retro commercials and I realize that I am retro too. Ha ha!!!
bring back good old memories... thank U Retrontario!!!!
Man, after seeing this it looks like every generation has their dose of crazy cereals.
Well, it is now about to be the 2nd decade after you say that
It's crazy that in the 80s they were advertising the Apple flavor of Apple Jacks. Because when I grew up in the 90s, their slogan was "why doesn't it taste like apples?"
Wow! I had been waiting to see that "Circus Fun" cereal back for ages!! Thanks!!!
Oh MAN...I totally forgot about Rocky Road cereal. That was phenomenal!
I need to get back those days again somehow.
Lol good luck with that
Great memories watching these good old commercials
These old cereal commercials are all "part of a complete breakfast."
I was feeling nostalgic and bought some of these only to be reminded that they were sweet as hell and I'm now old
did any one ever follow the "part of this nutritious breakfast" part of it? Like have toast, orange juice an more milk on the side?
i think i kinda did as a kid, i remember adding banana slices to my rice krispies and having some OJ too, but the OJ and milk and sweet cereal clashed and i didn't bother with the glass of milk, just drank what was left in the bowl.
That's why America has an obesity problem!! Its not enough to eat this sugary crap, you have to add more carbs and calories with all that other crap. And then they put M&M's and Nerds candies IN THE BOX of cereal! No wonder children are developing Type II Diabetes at such an alarming rate!
It's kinda like taking a picture of a dog with several cats and saying, "This dog is part of this group of cats." lol
HELL NAWL!!..After a bowl of Cereal I didn't want NOTHIN ELSE til Lunch Time after I crashed from tha 2 - 3 bowls!!..😣😜🤣🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻
tracris1097 The most I ever had besides the cereal was toast.
I grew up in the 80's I never knew anyone that had a side of toast, a glass of milk, and a glass of orange juice with their bowl of cereal. 😂🤣😂
I had toast sometimes with my cereal back then and juice lol. But cereal is one of those foods you can eat any time, like the lazy food snack.
Because cereal isn't filling enough. I do find it a little weird to have a glass of milk as a form of protein when there's already milk in the cereal.
Ah the thundercats bumpers, I love old comercials, but those bumpers being back memories.
Kids these days will never know how good it was to be a kid back then
yeah, those days without internet and free will. great days...
*Seeing Sonny going coo coo in the old Cocoa puffs commercial* Some things just never change..
1985: Lion-O
2011: Claudus
2020: Jaga
wasn't born in the 80's just wanted to see the differences in TV back then.
and what did you think? 80's were great fun
TDBanimefan same.
mikey p it's alright to me. they bring up sexy fun when they Add Michael Jackson as the music. I love the 00's better.
Me too
I was 6
I teared up alittle. Brought back so many childhood memories. Better times
I remember Rocky Road cereal. Man, was that good.
It really was. The S'mores one was as well, and I know they have a version of it today, but it's not the same. Having the graham and chocolate in one piece was better.

LOL... You're right on that... No Joke on that... new generation...
You're right but we did in fact have video games. I think we were just more self disciplined and responsible as a culture back then.
msw0322 I think a lot of it has to do with the availability of technology today. I think it was actually 1985 when the NES was released, which resurrected the gaming industry after the crash of 1983. those commercials are more quality than children's shows today
In the 1985 Cocoa Krispies theme/1985 Krispies song, the Linn LM-1 is heard.
That Circus fun commercial was so informative!
Cinnamon toast crunch ad was the cutest😍
3:31 Or you can just buy a pack of M&Ms
fuck yeah i miss the 80s sooooooooooooo much
well shit, life has gone worse since you posted this lol
Who's watching this on 2015
When candy was a free prize packed inside cereal boxes...sugar overload much?
Well we ran outside and worked off the sugar back then. Kids now are little fat asses
We weren’t crazy health conscious back then....but we also weren’t 600lbs bc we actually played outside & ran around
I recalled Bonkers candy being inside some the sugary cereals back in the day.
So many young future child stars in these commercials too
Ahhhhhh the good old Times. Great Great !
These commercials were the best!!! Great memories

The great Voice over for Honey nuts is ARNOLD STANG
NO ONE ate "Rocky road". How long did that one last? I loved Frosted flakes (still do), Apple Jacks & Froot Loops
I just have to wonder if Henry Selick was at all involved in the animation for Circus Fun. It looks like his earlier animations and he did do commercial work before movies. It's possible.
Love that era
04:29: That would be the theme from the Press Your Luck Pilot.
I miss the old school cartoons also the toy and cereal commercials from the 80's and early to mid 90's.
I loved being a kid back then and having stuff inside cereal boxes, i used to open the box upside down to make it easier to get it lol
omg that smores cereal rocked, i used to love that!
Yes!! And when mom finally said yes...that box of cereal would be finished in like 2 days!!
This commercial break has to be from early 1986 because that’s when the 3 Cinnamon Toast Crunch bakers were introduced.
6:15 thats not Jason Hevery that's someone else Jason did Pee Wee's Big Adventure at this time and one of the Police Academy's.
The '80s had the coolest cereals. Unfortunately, I was rarely allowed to have those marshmallow cereals and had Cheerios or Special K instead. That might have been one of the reasons why I loved going to other people's houses because they would buy their kids those Monster cereals etc.

With the exception of regular Cheerios, each cereal seems to be peddling sugar.
Oh I agree! Thoae breakfast cereals are just loaded with sugar
Oh well millions of kids grew up eating them and turned out fine im one of them
