I’m definitely picky when it comes to lit fic. I know there are some really good ones out there because there’s a few I enjoyed a lot. Oftentimes they are heavy and emotional and you have to be in the right mood for it, that’s a huge thing for me personally

i find this with literary fiction as well, as someone who reads thrillers/crime/mystery and some fantasy, these books usually take a lot of mental power and investment, and they are boring actually even if we kinda like the premise and the story, and they kinda also call me stupid sometimes if I don't get what's going on, and honestly not getting what's going on kinda makes it hard to connect to the characters.
I'm currently reading The Secret History and i feel the same way but I'm intrigued by the idea so i wanna keep going.
Also you explained yourself well, or at least well enough for me!

yesss that’s exactly how I feel about literary fiction.
The Secret History is pretty boring in the first half but it gets really crazy later on and it’s so fun to read

I grew up reading only fantasy books but I fell in love with litfic because of The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. I always recommend this book to people
