Hey! As an equestrian and once been nervous about this here is what you do to always not have anything happen. Walking behind? Keep the hand closest to them on them so they know where you are!! When giving them something to eat just lay your hand completely flat!!

yeah, not sure though, also looks like it could be a lack of muscle, though the horse's hips don't show evidence of old age, so probably ill-fitted tack.
Shaving horses is fine, the issue with this is if you get the mane or tail too short as they can’t repel flies easily. Also, some horses sunburn, so be careful. I believe you are thinking of shaving dogs, which IS bad for them. Same with cats.
