I hope you enjoy the watch. So far I've found it to be Shot Scope back to their best. I think value for money in the space and for what it does, it's a very solid offering.
Had an email this morning offering £40 off, then found your vid and pulled the trigger. Had been contemplating V3 or X5 but both seemed to have too many downsides. This one seems perfect. Thanks for a great review, liked and subscribed, cheers
70% Battery at the end of the round is a big improvement. After a single round I've never had close to 50% battery life left (model X5), which means no second round the same day. I'd be nice if there were a "trade-up" program. I've purchased the V3 AND the X5 within 2 years, and can hardly justify spending the $$$ for a THIRD Shotscope in a 2 year period.
I agree. I kind of was expecting one. I also have purchased the V3 and the X5 within the last year. The V3 misses a lot of shots, and the X5 eats as much as 80-85% of the battery on a slow round, plus it doesn't work in the rain, and sometimes the battery mysteriously drains overnight. The V5 looks like the perfect compromise, but I would rather get some sort of discount as a good customer.
@@carlr2837 it looks so far to me like the V5 is in a good spot between all the watches released so far. I also think there is a discounted price on their website for a couple of weeks, or an offer for existing customers (might be best to contact them directly if you're considering it). Cheers, Jon
WooHoo! I got my V5, and it is a fantastic watch. It has all the best features of the V3, and all the best features of the X5. It has none of the bad things about the V3, nor any of the bad things about the X5. The V5 has good battery life (like the V3, unlike the X5). It has an easy and fast interface (Like the V3, unlike the X5). It doesn't miss many shots (like the X5, unlike the V3). It keeps score (like the X5, unlike the V3). It looks modern (like the X5, unlike the V3). It works in the rain (like the V3, unlike the X5). You don't have to worry about bumping it and recording 2 putt pars with erroneous pin locations (Like the V3, unlike the X5). While I despise the X5 because of the touch screen, I have been using it most of the time because of the better accuracy. I use the V3 occasionally because sometimes, for no apparent reason, I get to the course and find that the X5 has no battery left even though I charged it the night before and left it powered off. Now I will gladly get rid of both, and stick only to the V5, by far the best watch of the three.
I started with the V3. It was a fine watch, but it did miss a fair number of shots, which made it a bit fiddly to work with. Also, the V3 doesn't keep track of the score, so you need to use a paper scorecard, and save it for editing the round. The V3 was easily good for 2-3 rounds on a battery, and charged very quickly. Final thoughts is that the V3 is a nice watch, gives you the info you need, but requires a lot of editing of rounds. I still use mine at times when my X5 battery dies, including a round last weekend. Next I "upgraded" to the X5. It's a pretty watch, and misses almost no shots. However, it is riddled with flaws. The touch screen is awful. It doesn't work at all in rain/mist. Also, it is fully on when putting, which means that if you bump your wrist against your back or legs while looking over a putt, it will record a random putt count and pin location. The touch screen also eats battery, or something does. Expect a slow round (5-6 hour round) to use up to 80% of a battery charge. If you only play 3 hour rounds, great for you, but in my Senior League, 6 hour rounds do happen. Also, once in awhile I will charge the X5, and set it in the car for the next use, and I get to the course to find it dead for no reason (at which point I pull out the trusty V3). I have a love/hate relationship with the X5. It works well, when it works, but it has far too many flaws as it stands. It should never have been released with the touch screen, in my opinion. I was considering abandoning ShotScope and moving to the Garmin world, but the V5 may be the answer. It looks like it takes the best things about the X5 (the fact that it correctly locates almost all shots, and the fact that it keeps score), and combines it with the best of the V3 (long battery life and no finicky touch screen). It may be exactly what I'm looking for.
My first impressions is that the V5 is in a real sweet spot between the two watches. In a sense it combines the best/most effective parts of them both.
Love it. It’s very easy to navigate. The full hole view is excellent. Battery life is really good. I’m also really enjoying the club tags and all of the feedback they’re giving me after the round
Came from Arccos to the V3. Upgraded to the X5 under the existing user deal. My daughters has been fine, but mine (midnight blue) has had to be exchanged twice for a replacement due to losing all power and screen. This third one is now switching itself off from play view and cancelling the round. I’d go V5 under the existing user deal, but I’m reluctant to waste money on something if it’s going to be as unreliable as my X5.
Very fair by the sounds of it. I think the V5 will be back in Shot Scope's sweet spot and a very solid and user friendly option for a lot of golfers. First impressions were very positive.
Good informative Video. I have the X5 however, the one issue i have is that i wear long sleeves to the the sun all year round, and I find that the watch keeps changing or doesn’t pick up the putting strokes
Thank you! I'd guess the removal of touch screen would fix the sleeve issue on the V5, can't really say about the putting strokes, all I can say is that I didn't see that issue. Thanks for watching :-)
I started with the V3…loved it and eagerly “upgraded” to the X5 when it was released. I found the X5 unusable out on the course. Far too fiddly, too many “features” and completely non user friendly. I stuck with it for about 2 weeks before going back to the V3. I would definitely go for the V5 if it is a genuine upgrade on the V3 but maintains the user friendly nature of the original.

I preferred the touch screen for moving the pin, but honestly that's not the key feature when I use it, so not the deciding factor (for me). It's definitely an upgrade on the V3 (again, in my opinion).

Great review and video. The battery life seems great. I've never owned a golf watch before, always relied on Apple products, and Arccos. But it just got too expensive. Is there any sort of subscription for this watch? And for the stats?
Started with a V2 which developed a fault in warranty so given replacement, battery is just enough for a 4-5hr round doesn’t pick up all shots though. Strap broke but can’t replace it(very disappointing) so I’ve had to be creative to be able to use it. V5 sounds better but won’t buy if straps can’t be purchased separately and price needs to come down
I'm not certain on the strap but on the watch it looks like it can be removed, so possibly can be replaced. Perhaps not in the same way the G5 is done though.
Weird question, but what brand of golf shirt are you wearing. I need to update my wardrobe and like the look of the shirt you're sporting today. Thanks!
Thanks, appreciate that. It's from a UK brand called Bunker Mentality. I really love their styles and the shirts are all very good materials and fits. Good luck 👍
Few things: To compare "18 holes vs 18 holes" for battery life isn't a good metric, as each round takes a different amount of time. I noticed at 0:14 your round took 3:13 to play. The only fair comparison is to check battery life on the v3 after 3:13. In addition, you're checking a brand new battery against (presumably) and old V3 battery. I upgraded to the V5, and I find the tagging to be horrible compared to the V3. The tags have to essentially touch the band compared to the V3, which rarely would miss a shot. Perhaps I have a defective unit.
Hi Jon Interesting video. I too have had several shotscopes. I think V1 bfore V3. Overall I like them BUT I am currently using the X5 and have to say I am frustrated with it. During play the buttons keep getting pressed by my wrist hinge movement so sometimes find the watch doing strange things. The touch screen can be too sensitive when trying to record putts. Often find its turn off. Gone back to clock face. Very frustrating. Also very bulky. Doesnt sit well with long sleeved Tshirt, Sweatshirt AND wet coat. Been a real pig this winter in the UK. I honestly wish I had stayed on the V3. Given those “moans”, how do you think the V5 would suit me. PS - until this watch I was a big shotscope fan and as another gentleman said, what about some tradeup service. I”ve bought three of these watches now!
Hi Pete, thanks for the message and watching along - sorry about the bad weather (I don't miss it)! I suspect from your description that you would like the V5 and the way it works without the touch screen issues. It is however the same body/size as the X5, so if the size and shape didn't suit you, this is in that way the same... But, you won't have the issues with the screen and it turning itself off etc. In terms of the offer, I asked Shot Scope and there is an offer if you email them... Good luck with your decision!
@@scannon4492 yeah it's great to have all those stats and have to do very little (other than after putting out) to get them. But certainly that's assuming it works 🙂for me it has.
I don't like wearing watches on the course - would the shot tracking still work if the watch was on my trolly? Or does it have to be super close to the tracker?
I'm pretty certain the impact with the ball is a critical part of how it works and tracks your shots, so needs to be on your wrist. That said I know they have another couple of options that are not watches.
Just get the H4 that shot scope offers. You just have to get used to tapping the sensors but it’s small can fit in your pocket, has a little clip to hook on belt loops and also a magnet to clip on the cart and it’s half the price of the x5 watch at $150(usd)
Had the V3 which was good on course but rubbish with the tags Upgraded to the X5 but the battery isn’t good for more than a round and the unlock screen feature is really annoying. Don’t think I’ll bother with shotscope anymore
Yep, totally. I also had a fast round when testing this, which is why I was leaning towards being confident you'd get any length round and the day, possibly 2 rounds but time will tell (I almost never play twice a day anyway on balance 🙂)
Yep, tags for each club and a few spare to assign as you see fit (example, I have one in a driving iron). It's all very straight forward when you get into it.
Returned mine after two rounds. Misses a LOT of shots and records incorrect scores. By the end of the round you have a lot of editing to do, and that doesn’t happen with the Garmin watches. Pity, but IMHO there are better options available than this.
Hey, thanks for the message. I double checked with Shot Scope and the code works worldwide but just not in the first month or so on new products... Hope you enjoy the watch if you go for it!
No, it's very good like that. Seems to trigger off the ball impact or sound somehow - only picks up your shots, not any practice swings. You could edit after but I've never had it pick up a practice swing.
Great video. Just got mine went to sync watch with phone to track round and it stays at 99% doesn't finish, would you know how to get it to sync completely?
I’ll never buy another thing from Shotscope. I had v3. Battery died in watch but was impossible to replace battery. Throw it all out was the only option. Logging shots never worked properly either.
Threat vid thanks. I’m exactly the same as chunkedit, I was excited for the new watch but really didn’t like the touch screen on the course, so I stuck with v3 as the button operation is so much easier and can largely vibe dine without looking, when collecting your putts, which makes it a tad quicker imo. Seriously looking at the v5 👌 for the better looking round face, upgraded and more accurate tags, colour, hole views (I do like the arc idea too), I’ve never understood the green view pin placement thing, you’re just guessing I’ve never understood why moving the pin is a benefit. If I know the pin distance what’s the point in faffing on the green view, waste of time. Happy for someone to educate me on the green view feature 🤷♂️
Glad you enjoyed. I have a feeling Shot Scope are back in their sweet spot with this watch. The buttons are very easy and removes the touch screen issue. I'm a bot the same on the pin comment - I'm personally pretty happy with front, middle and back as a guide if I'm not using a laser. I think a lot of people will find the V5 to be a solid option.
@@ianblackburn5935 yes, I think that was the bezel to use if you didn't want to do touch screen. Either way it's gone and all controlled by 4 buttons, two on each side.
Wow that's a good spot - I'm impressed!! I like it, it's sturdy but light weight, comfy to carry or easy to push and has decent pocket and club space. Weird thing to note but it doesn't really have an umbrella carrying space, not a huge issue in Australia, but just something I've noticed.
@@JonPerkinsGolf I noticed when you were putting it away in your trunk. Been in the market for one but no stores locally stock them. The straps are a bit different from most double strap so I've been hesitant.
Let’s be honest…the touchscreen was hopeless - that’s why so many people sent the X5 back (myself included). I might be tempted back with this version.
Hey mate, I don't think my personal discount code applies just yet to this new product. They were offering some other discounts though - I'd maybe message @Shot Scope directly. Good luck
@@jayarnold142 I think that can be normal, they release updates as they improve it, so I wouldn't worry about those. Did you get it connected - have you tired using on the course to see if its registering them?
I don't know but I can try and find out. If I had to guess I wonder if adding slope to a watch is unlikely given you're not allowed to use it in comps and it would be hard to tell if someone has it turned on or off? But that's a guess not based on anything at all :-)
Hey, where are you based Carl? I obviously don't work for ShotScope so only know to a small amount, but I feel like I've seen a discounted rate on their website for the first few weeks and someone else said they emailed existing customers an offer? Possibly check your junk emails? Or even contact them directly, I'm pretty sure there is an offer. Hope this helps.
@@JonPerkinsGolf Thanks. I contacted them directly. I'm based in the US. I did get the link, and ordered it. I agree that it sounds like the perfect combination of the V3 (reliable, good battery, but clunky and missed shots, no score keeping) with the X5 (misses few shots, score keeping to help with later editing, but horrible touch screen, very poor battery life). My expectation for the G5 is good battery life (perhaps even 3 rounds/charge), none of the flakiness from the touch screen, along with score keeping, plus the reliable feel of the V3.
As in for which clubs? There's a box full of tags - labelled for each club, plus a few extra that you can allocate to other clubs like a 2 iron or whatever you have away from the norm.
All depends on your sat coverage , my shot scope takes the first hole to find the course so thats 10 minutes at least , gives me readings that are behind at times which is really annoying i may know im a hundred yrds and im being told 120 but when i look again its caught up , the battery may say 70% after 18 so then it should be fine for another 18 this is not the case as on three seperate occasions ive taken it from the bag for a second round and its less than 20% . And using gps and track really kills the battery so i dont bother . My £60 rangefinder kills shotscope and 2yrs later the battery is still 75% . Stop selling lies its just overpriced and this is just an advertisement .

How does it handle practice swings, does it count them and then you have to edit the data?
No, it's very good like that. Seems to trigger off the ball impact or sound somehow - only picks up your shots, not any practice swings. You could edit after but I've never had it pick up a practice swing.
Great video. Just got mine went to sync watch with phone to track round and it stays at 99% doesn't finish, would you know how to get it to sync completely?
Sorry, only just seen this. Have you fixed it? Did you try updating to whatever the latest firmware is?
Is it worth upgrading from the V3?
I'd say 100% yes (but then it's not my money 🙂)
@@JonPerkinsGolf You may have just cost me some money
@@CareyBolam 😁enjoy
I’ll never buy another thing from Shotscope. I had v3. Battery died in watch but was impossible to replace battery. Throw it all out was the only option. Logging shots never worked properly either.
Sounds frustrating.
Anyone know what it’s like at picking up practice swings by mistake?
Personally, it's never picked up a practice swing, seems to trigger based on impact somehow.
👍 Is the spinny wheel options scroll function gone on the v5? (That was awkward on the x5 I found)
@@ianblackburn5935 yes, I think that was the bezel to use if you didn't want to do touch screen. Either way it's gone and all controlled by 4 buttons, two on each side.
Excellent cheers, as just ordered one on the early loyalty discount deal 😬👌
@@ianblackburn5935 Great. I hope it ticks the boxes for you. Are you in the UK?
How do you like the Jones bag?
Wow that's a good spot - I'm impressed!! I like it, it's sturdy but light weight, comfy to carry or easy to push and has decent pocket and club space. Weird thing to note but it doesn't really have an umbrella carrying space, not a huge issue in Australia, but just something I've noticed.
@@JonPerkinsGolf I noticed when you were putting it away in your trunk. Been in the market for one but no stores locally stock them. The straps are a bit different from most double strap so I've been hesitant.
@@wrxjunki good eye. I got mine online - same thing about not in shops near me. The straps are a bit different but I've found them just as good tbh.
Let’s be honest…the touchscreen was hopeless - that’s why so many people sent the X5 back (myself included). I might be tempted back with this version.
Tried the link and code but tells me code is not applicable to selected products
Hey mate, I don't think my personal discount code applies just yet to this new product. They were offering some other discounts though - I'd maybe message @Shot Scope directly. Good luck
@@JonPerkinsGolf No worries. Found a 70 dollar discount and got it for 179. Thanks again
Can't get the app on my phone to scan the tags for the v5. Anybody else have this problem yet.
Can't say that I have. Are there any updates you can download perhaps?
@JonPerkinsGolf I had to do an update on the watch as soon as I got it at the box.
@@jayarnold142 I think that can be normal, they release updates as they improve it, so I wouldn't worry about those. Did you get it connected - have you tired using on the course to see if its registering them?
Where is everyone getting the discount from?
I think ShotScope sent an initial offer to existing customers - perhaps contact their support team directly?
1. Do you have any information if Shot Scope will be adding slope to the X5?
2. What watch with slope do you recommend?
I don't know but I can try and find out. If I had to guess I wonder if adding slope to a watch is unlikely given you're not allowed to use it in comps and it would be hard to tell if someone has it turned on or off? But that's a guess not based on anything at all :-)
No discount for early purchasers?
@@carlr2837 Good luck, hope you enjoy using it! Agree about the G5, thats solid as well!
@@JonPerkinsGolf Oops, I meant V5, not G5, but I also think that the G5 looks solid, but it doesn't have the shot tracking.
What tags come with it?
As in for which clubs? There's a box full of tags - labelled for each club, plus a few extra that you can allocate to other clubs like a 2 iron or whatever you have away from the norm.
No slope
No, I'm not sure it'd be a good feature for watches as not allowed in comps (but that's just me).
Which Shot Scope product do you have?
H4
@@user_1664 not tried that one. Hope you've found something else that does what you want.
charging mechanism is flaky.
You've had issues? Can't say that I've ever seen that in a Shot Scope product - did you talk to them about it?
V3 is not the original the V2 was the original
Argh well V3 is where I joined the journey then.
