We tried the pop bottle flowers, and they worked very well, with one change: We used a birthday candle flame to "outline" the petals, rather than holding a lighter directly under as shown. Holding it under resulted in the petals collapsing into a tight roll almost instantly, whereas if we ran the heat around the outside of the petal, a gentle curling process was more natural, and it was not necessary to reshape with fingers very much afterwards.
