- No. 8 Florida State began its 2023 season with a dominating 45-24 victory over No. 5 LSU in Orlando. Go inside the locker room and on the sideline as the Seminoles forced four takeaways, including three 4th-down stops, and scored 31 straight points in the second half on their way to scoring the most points against a top-five team in a season opener since 1968.

I love it I love how the culture has changed over the past few years and what that has done to effect the outcome of these games ... This was a huge game and FSU showed up and showed out not because they had one or two great players or had a few huge plays but because the team as a whole played it's ass off and when the smoke cleared everyone was looking for someone else to give the glory to nobody took credit for winning this game on their own this is what a team looks like and I'm excited to see how far these men can go
play as a family and play for each other just like how bobby preached and talked about and that the vision of those teams also.

been watching this team for almost 20 years and that second half may have been the most dominant half of football in a big game that i have ever seen an FSU team play. This team really has the chance to be special. One game at a time tho.

Great win for FSU. I’m an LSU fan. We were out coached. We have the talent but we went in big headed. We should have taken the field goals. The drops need to be addressed. I’ve been a Noles fan since 1982! I’m glad they’re finally getting it back together! These past years have been rough but I’ve never stopped supporting them and I never will I knew we would get it back at some point, now let’s see that Football only facility get finished and we stay on top for years to come!

"A Seminal Seminole Story"
11/6/2022 Hard Rock Stadium - FSU vs. Miami
It's early in the 4th quarter, and the Noles are boot-stomping the Canes 38-3. A WR transfer from Illinois catches a silly personal foul penalty, and Coach Mike Norvell is livid. The live TV broadcast catches almost every lip-reading word coming from the coach to the player new to the coach's program and, more importantly newly built culture.
Uncharacteristically this young WR starts losing his cool, and now it looks like the only blemish on an otherwise euphoric night..
Then it happened.
Coach Norvell runs back into the picture and repeatedly refocuses the young man to eventually - as coach was quoted - "look me in the eyes and breathe..." The player did and calmed down. Then what happened next is where Nole Nation, hell, the entire football-watching nation, saw the birth of a championship-level coach figuring it out on the fly.
He puts the player back in the game, and he immediately catches an 8-yard pass. A play that was insignificant to the outcome of the game but cemented a moment that we will all remember when the "THE CLIMB" reaches its apex.
In that moment, trust was berthed. Player to coach, coach back to player. That player officially became "Nole Blooded" right then and there.
The Moral of the Story?? Hang tight with me...
Fast Forward - 9/3/2023 - Camping World Stadium - #5 LSU vs. #8 FSU
FSU is trailing early in the 2nd half of a super tight game that, quite frankly, they've been giving away in the first half. At this point, they are putting together a statement drive.
It's 3rd and 1 on the LSU 38, 12:30 on the clock and ticking. A crucial play on the outer edge of FG range. QB Jordan Travis receives the snap and throws it to a WR he put in motion behind the line of scrimmage.
A trick play? Yep.
The WR catches the ball and prepares to launch it to transfer portal sensation Jaheim Bell, who leaks into LSU's shaky secondary. But on this play, they were ready and the play is officially F.U.B.A.R.😵💫
Now in this moment, that absolutely solidified the trajectory of a comeback that led to an "ole-fashioned woodshedding", the WR makes a tremendous Houdini-esque escape, KEEPS HIS POISE, and delivers a strike 8' 3" (or 6' 7" if you wanna be technical 🙄), Johnny Wilson for a dynamic and momentum-sustaining 1st down.
About 3 exact game minutes later, Ryan Fitzgerald calmly knocks a game-tying FG. Then FSU would proceed to score 28 more unanswered points in a jaw-dropping demolishing of a "vaunted top 5 SEC defense" and emphatically announce their 2023 CFP intentions on National TV.
Oh yeah, the moral you asked earlier... The moral is this:
Coach Norvell used an opportunity in a 2022 game that 1000 other coaches would've waived off (due to score and situation) and created a bond with a player who less than 10 months later entrusted a crucial, nail-biting, risky play to execute and he bailed Coach out with poise and execution, in a moment that had major implications for how the rest of the game would go.
That player was Duece Spann.
And on Sunday, 9/3/2023, he showed everyone tuning in the spoils of Coach Norvell's officially & fully rebuilt championship culture. And all of Nole Nation has 1 little "insignificant" (Un)necessary roughness to thank. Without it, I'm not sure Duece Spann is around to make that play in a moment none of us should ever forget. I know I won't.
I'm sure the player won't either. That player IS Duece Spann.
That Coach IS Mike Norvell... and we watched him turn into a champion before our very eyes that fateful November night in Miami. A champion who needs no trophy to stamp him.
