Trust me, I reluctantly clicked on the notifications button! My goodness! What mistake I would have done if I didn't see this!! You trust the solar filter so much, you started to image the very moment, you are sitting at the picnic table explaining the rotation when your gear is just waiting on top of that table, you are shooting yourself at that incredibly busy moment and talking about how you missing it!! Now I am officially a big fan! Good work Alyn!

Way better than watching a tied up sporting event in the last five minutes of play, pretty sure I held my breath for the last couple. Thanks for sharing, all things being equal, I'll tune in to your next attempt in 2032, I'll only be 79...Cheers from BC!

Story of my life, barely polar aligned with clear skies and the clouds roll in to stay! Took the day off for the transit but low level cloud extending for a radius of hundreds of kilometres killed it! Love your anxious intensity! Good luck for 2032!

Your calculations were good, Alyn. The problem is that 8 * is the center of the Sun's disc. Now Photopills corrects the height of the black pin. Just add the tower height. You're doing a great job!

Hi Alyn, big hug and thanks for your video. it’s great to show how difficult the astrophotography is, everything is not 100% guaranteed, we always surrounded by failure, wet, cold.

So Close! I was totally there with you in the rush to get the shot.
I shoot with Sony (wildlife and landscape). I am sure that you probably are aware but I found that 95% of the time when using the X2 on my 100-400 and 200-600, the images will be soft. The 1.4 works great with these. That may be why you felt the backyard shot was a bit soft.

The realities of all types of nature photography Alyn, it was good to see although it was definitely frustrating to be doing, I'm certain. When you're reliant on the weather to play ball you're never guaranteed to get perfection. But no one can say that you didn't put the effort in mate.
I have a similar thing with wildlife photography sometimes. No matter how well you plan, how far you walk, sometimes the wildlife just isn't there. I did my first vlog last week that did actually have some wildlife in, but it's certainly not always the case.
I'll look out for your video in 13 years Alyn, looking forward to it pal, haha :D

My hand controller blew up on Saturday before transit. Amazon said one day delivery so I ordered it came not the next day but the next day 1 hr after transit. I got 150 gigs of footage but none tracking. It could have been worse disappointed in delivery tardiness though. Good luck with your efforts!

mirrorless camera and a heavy 90-280mm (f2.8-4) zoom lens, which with

I agree it would make things easier than a plain ball head but I'm concerned about the extra weight for travel (baggage allowance). Would be interesting if you could share what gear you took to La Palma and Turkey and what your baggage limit was. :)

I was just trying to get an shot of mercury without any foreground, when a plane flew in front of the sun disc, would have been a perfect silhouette photograph, but sadly I missed it due to 10 seconds delayed shutter release :( Still got some normal pictures, but now knowing how it could have been, they aren’t that satisfying and therefore I really can feel your disappointment and wish both of us more luck the next time in 13 years :)
