Love, love, LOVE the way Linda brought up how age appropriate casting is so important for a show like this because of the fact that a 15 yo playing a 15 yo will only bring 15 years of life experience to the role. The fact that they might have to learn about bipolar disorder or toxic relationships WHILE they're acting out the scenes brings that additional authenticity that other shows FAIL at. Thank you to all the writers, producers, actors, camera people, etc, etc, etc who were involved in any ounce of this show. The fact that there is an HBO reboot literally in the works right now is kismet and I can't wait to see if any of these wonderful people will be part of it.
That's why I absolutely love this show. I love love the fact they casted age appropriate actors and I think that's what made it so much more meaningful when I was a kid watching it. I felt like I was actually watching teens in high school going through various predicaments. Like someone said, Euphoria comes to mind because they didn't do the same and it didn't resonate with me the same. Granted, I think that show is more so aimed towards a slightly older audience than Degrassi was.
I was the around the same age as Emma when The Next Generation started coming on…. I can confirm that growing up watching the show, it very rarely felt preachy. I think the appropriate casting contributed to that. They were just kids, the same as me. The way they experienced the issues they had felt so real, and so did the responses of the characters who would be trying to support them through it. It was just really well done
I think there isn’t much to talk about. Terri got some storyline during S1 & 2 and with the most prominent storyline of hers in S3 she just landed in a coma right when her parts began to get good. I feel like her character was robbed of the development that many of the characters had gained throughout the span of a decade almost.

This show was literally my introduction into so many things from LGBTQ to DV to the internet way back when... it literally saved my life. Hopefully HBO does it justice.
I doubt that will ever happen. Degrassi will just continue on from Season 4 of Next Class; That's what I believe. I'll watch it of course🙄 it's just really frickin' weird that this new season is wayyy overdue. We should have been got a new season since 2018.. but now it's 2022 & I'm 21 years old,, they probably might have brand new characters that we're not familiar with or they may keep some of the characters from Next Class like Shay, Frankie, Lola, Saad, Rasha, Saad's sister, Hunter, Yael, Vijay, etc.
I think Munro did it better to be honest. He literally embodied the essence of being someone who has manic episodes and being in uncomfortable situations gives him anxiety. It’s just weird he isn’t given the credit for it.
This show was so dynamic and so special. Every generation needs Degrassi, I will definitely have my son watching it when he grows up (: It’s a great learning tool to help teach kids and teens tolerance and experience. You can teach them yourself, but there’s something about seeing other people go through that experience.
bouncing off what munro said about adam’s storyline, i really appreciate degrassi being my first introduction to trans people! i remember being confused as a kid when i first watched adam’s story but i think they did a really good job of informing younger gen’s about transgender people. it definitely was an eye opener for me being only like, 10 when i first watched degrassi.
No matter how many years go by, I still feel like I am coming together with my closest friends when I pop in my collector’s dvd sets of Degrassi: TNG I was a young teen when Degrassi: TNG first aired in the US and I ended becoming pregnant at 17 and named my daughter Emma in honor of Emma on the show. I still cry and laugh out loud and feel every single emotion as if it were the first time I was watching an episode. To the cast and the creators.... you have always been such an integral part of my life, my growing up, and my adulthood. Thank you so much for using your God given talents to bring valuable lessons to our so needy world!;)

I'm so happy they brought up Sex Education! It's seriously one of my favorite shows along with Degrassi. They both are so real and bring an authenticity that a lot of shows are lacking. Even though the actors aren't age appropriate, they still convey the high school experience without the pollution of their own real life experiences.
i watched it right from the beginning. "The Kids of DeGrassi Street" all the way to "DeGrassi Next Class". even from the beginning i always dreamed to be a part of a true Canadian classic. i hope that it contiues for generations to come and beyond. a job well done for all cast members past and present. all of you truly know how to show the real life in all aspects of the times of the past before social media to the now of social media. every decade showed the real times of each person that lived through those times of life.

Would have been nice to hear from Andrea Lewis (Hazel). She definitely was vocal years after her time on Degrassi about feeling shortchanged on the show and not getting a real presence or storyline on the show as a minority character.
was just thinking this. She was pretty situated as a supporting character when nearly everyone else of that generation took turns with their storylines but I think she only had the signle episode in relation to her heritage, after that she was either being portrayed as Paige's friend or Jimmy's girlfriend and then *poof*. That might be why she wasn't contributing as much to the panel but a couple of times could have had a question directed at her.

This show made me the open minded loving person I am. I watched this while I was about 9-14 and I grew with the show and lived through some of the experiences myself, and I’m grateful I had the show to help me see that I wasn’t alone and that it’s a process, learning how to deal with certain experiences and dealing with the issues presented to us. I truly hold degrassi in a special place in my heart. Same with every character. I’m grateful for the experience
I was in awe from start to finish. I miss these characters so much, I'd like to see where they're at now like we did with Joey, Snake and Spike!! I wanna see Spinner and Emma's kids in Degrassi, that'd be really cool generational thing!
Spinner and Emma's kids would be too young unless they got pregnant right after their wedding in summer 08/ had one in 09. If so kid would be 12, turning 13 summer of 2022. But I wanted Emma to leave Spinner and end up with Sean, and Spinner to end up with Paige :(

i love this! currently I'm binging all of degrassi with my boyfriend because he's never seen it before and it's been so fun as he picks his favorite characters or get involved with the storylines and become immersed it's so nice to enjoy one of my favorite things with my favorite person !
Haha I started watching it last year starting with Junior High and then my boyfriend wanted to watch it with me when I started Next Generation. We both grew up watching Next Generation but I only watched til like season 6 and he stopped by season 8. We have now watched all of it including Next Class and man was it a wild ride.

Omg this makes my heart so happy to see the OG cast. I loved Spinner Craig, Paige, Sean etc. I would love a reboot. I need a reboot. Maybe college or them in Parenthood. Anything please. I miss my Degrassi people. I watched it when it first aired and now my daughter watches it. I like that it introduces topics that I can explain more about with her. This is our mother daughter show. We both love it.
I watched this show when i was in middle school, and i watched up until the final episode with the new characters like maya, zick etc. I had a degrassi marathon this last month and rewatched it all. This show is the only show ive seen so far that shows real life things that teens deal with like transgender, pregnancy, mental health, bulling. Seeing this makes me so happy and im so excited that they’re coming with a new season !!!
40:54 I think Jake, Munro and Ephraim Todd Ellis' (who played Rick Murray) characters were by far the ones that were played super well in this Generation and brought mental illness direct and upfront to the viewers.
I whole-heartedly agree with what Lauren has said about seeing the show through the lens of a parent. I am a single mom of a son who just turned 7 and Degrassi will MOST DEFINITELY be an aid in how I approach certain situations with him as he grows. There are some things a woman just can't explain by experience that perhaps setting him up with an episode or two, he can learn in what may feel like a more natural way. There are definitely things I hve learned about myself and life from this show, I am the age of eli and Claire but have had degrassi in my life since as long as I can remember so I can definitely get behind a form of Degrassi for the next generation' next generation. Gen Z needs all the help they can get as they are facing situations and times that we never could have prepared them for!!
The latest Degrassi should start with Liberty and JT’s child. They can do it just got they rebooted with Emma as a child. That would be an awesome tie in to Degrassi the next Generation.
Started to watch Degrassi the next generation then watch Degrassi Jr high as well. And have followed the story line since middle school and high school and still enjoying watching them over again till this day. Thank you for making a great program to grow up on. It help make childhood a little easier by relating to some charactors and what they had to deal with as well.
I grew up watching Degrassi it's my favorite TV show. They all look so good my 2 favorite cast members are Claire and Emma. I loved their personalities and how cute they are. This is amazing watching some of the cast members come together and talk about their past memories of the show and of their lives.

For some reason I’m not mad at it and let me explain. Sean and Emma are my fave ship don’t get me wrong, but if we really think about it, they break up every season. Sean leaves, comes back, leaves, comes back leaves-(you get it) and Emma is the type of girl who would just settle down(like spinner) yeah maybe if they had a better buildup, the whole romance wouldn’t have been so random. But they had the same “goals” in life, like Spinner wanted to be near home, and Emma. What I would’ve like is if Spinner and Emma dated, broke up and then rekindled later on. Would’ve made more sense!
degrassi was my safeplace, i grew up watching it and i grew with it. Degrassi helped me in so many ways that I NEVER thought would be real. I'm forever greatful that this Was the show i needed as a kid & this is a show i will show my kids one day. THANK you degrassi for beeing my childhood & made me understand who i am today !

I love how when they were asked how long is been since the last time they saw one another they couldn’t give an answer but clearly the last time everyone was really together was 3 years ago for Drakes music video I’m Upset. Which was pretty freaking cool that Drake did that and paid homage to where he got started in his career.
I am a bit disappointed that Andrea didn’t take the opportunity to talk about her character Hazel Oden and the episodes where she announced that she is in fact a Muslim from Somalia; bringing lots of awareness both to Somalia and the identity shaming that Muslims students were going through due to ignorance (especially since 9/11 was still fresh in peoples minds). Fyi she was pretending to be Jamaican lol.

I'm in America and in 2001/2002, in 8th grade, my health teacher showed us the episode where Spike found out she was pregnant and also the "egg baby" episode. I've watched all the episodes of TNG up until the originals all left) numerous times. I'm actually rewatching now, on Roku. Lol I wish Roku would add the classics. man this show really helped shape me into a better adult when I watched it as a teen. my parents weren’t talking to me about any of it. canada has always been so much more progressive than the states. shout out to linda for pushing boundaries all these years. I wish I could revoke my american citizenship to only have a canadian one and I’d be fine with it. Working 3 jobs living in and out of homelessness with my kids in america is killing me.
When I was younger we lived on a street that was about a block or more from the actual Degrassi St. Also, the doctor's office that Spike finds out that she is pregnant with Emma at was my actual doctor's office until the late 80's.
I've been a fan since the ORIGINAL Degrassi, so that's over 30 yrs of love for Degrassi. I loved it for several reasons, but mostly because the kids were real. Problems didn't always get solved by the end of an episode, everyone wasn't unrealistically attractive, really bad things happened and had real consequences, etc.
One thing I love about Degrassi is the song choices. They did so good with that. The songs really set the mood and made the episodes so much more memorable. Amanda clemens 'I dont want to be me' The sky is breaking up jim by mark boone and so many more songs made the scenes really stand out to me. Edit: please Degrassi give us a Sean and Emma endgame. we have been waiting so long!
I think they should do Degrassi The Generation After. With maybe Liberty and JTs baby who will be in the late teens, looking for them! Emma and Spinner having their 1st baby, Manny and Jay after a break up after collage reconnecting in their early thirties! So many story lines!!!!
I lived in North Carolina back then. I was in high school. It was my school playing out on tv. It was a safe place because as a teen. I went through so much as a teen. I loved each and every character. It was hard to pick a favorite. The Next Generation was still cool even though I grew out of it. I would totally 1000% watch a reboot. Everyone acting was on point to be teens.

This show made me the open minded loving person I am. I watched this while I was about 9-14 and I grew with the show and lived through some of the experiences myself, and I’m grateful I had the show to help me see that I wasn’t alone and that it’s a process, learning how to deal with certain experiences and dealing with the issues presented to us. I truly hold degrassi in a special place in my heart. Same with every character. I’m grateful for the experience
I was in awe from start to finish. I miss these characters so much, I'd like to see where they're at now like we did with Joey, Snake and Spike!! I wanna see Spinner and Emma's kids in Degrassi, that'd be really cool generational thing!

Spinner and Emma's kids would be too young unless they got pregnant right after their wedding in summer 08/ had one in 09. If so kid would be 12, turning 13 summer of 2022. But I wanted Emma to leave Spinner and end up with Sean, and Spinner to end up with Paige :(

HBO was a weird choice for a degrassi reboot, I always thought we got kind of a feel for what a degrassi HBO show would be like in Euphoria

Haha I started watching it last year starting with Junior High and then my boyfriend wanted to watch it with me when I started Next Generation. We both grew up watching Next Generation but I only watched til like season 6 and he stopped by season 8. We have now watched all of it including Next Class and man was it a wild ride.
Was i the only one who didn’t even realize that was Christina? I was like “who is this random woman who joined” and when they said her name is was like “OMG MAN GIRL HAD A GLOW UP”. completely caught me off guard. She looks great.
She looks the same, just lost weight and possible fillers. Clearly she is obsessed with her appearance and likely leaned on that after leaving Degrassi.

I miss my Degrassi people. I watched it when it first aired and now my daughter watches it. I like that it introduces topics that I can explain more about with her. This is our mother daughter show. I watched this show when i was in middle school, and i watched up until the final episode with the new characters like maya, zick etc. I had a degrassi marathon this last month and rewatched it all. This show is the only show ive seen so far that shows real life things that teens deal with like transgender, pregnancy, mental health, bulling. Seeing this makes me so happy and im so excited that they’re coming with a new season !!!

40:54 I think Jake, Munro and Ephraim Todd Ellis' (who played Rick Murray) characters were by far the ones that were played super well in this Generation and brought mental illness direct and upfront to the viewers.
For sure I mean Munro showed off how someone who is bipolar and off his meds can’t cope with reality.
I whole-heartedly agree with what Lauren has said about seeing the show through the lens of a parent. I am a single mom of a son who just turned 7 and Degrassi will MOST DEFINITELY be an aid in how I approach certain situations with him as he grows. There are some things a woman just can't explain by experience that perhaps setting him up with an episode or two, he can learn in what may feel like a more natural way. There are definitely things I hve learned about myself and life from this show, I am the age of eli and Claire but have had degrassi in my life since as long as I can remember so I can definitely get behind a form of Degrassi for the next generation' next generation. Gen Z needs all the help they can get as they are facing situations and times that we never could have prepared them for!!

Started to watch Degrassi the next generation then watch Degrassi Jr high as well. And have followed the story line since middle school and high school and still enjoying watching them over again till this day. Thank you for making a great program to grow up on. It help make childhood a little easier by relating to some charactors and what they had to deal with as well.

I grew up watching Degrassi it's my favorite TV show. They all look so good my 2 favorite cast members are Claire and Emma. I loved their personalities and how cute they are. This is amazing watching some of the cast members come together and talk about their past memories of the show and of their lives.
Been watching Degrassi since I was around 9yrs old I'm now 37 and I still love Degrassi. Degrassi Junior high and Degrassi High use to show on pbs in the USA when I discovered Degrassi TNG in 2002 I watched it as well and I've seen every Degrassi season since including the Netflix Degrassi New Class. For some reason I’m not mad at it and let me explain. Sean and Emma are my fave ship don’t get me wrong, but if we really think about it, they break up every season. Sean leaves, comes back, leaves, comes back leaves-(you get it) and Emma is the type of girl who would just settle down(like spinner) yeah maybe if they had a better buildup, the whole romance wouldn’t have been so random. But they had the same “goals” in life, like Spinner wanted to be near home, and Emma. What I would’ve like is if Spinner and Emma dated, broke up and then rekindled later on. Would’ve made more sense!
I watch it since the beginning and this will always be one of my favorite TV shows.

degrassi was my safeplace, i grew up watching it and i grew with it. Degrassi helped me in so many ways that I NEVER thought would be real. I'm forever greatful that this Was the show i needed as a kid & this is a show i will show my kids one day. THANK you degrassi for beeing my childhood & made me understand who i am today !

I love how when they were asked how long is been since the last time they saw one another they couldn’t give an answer but clearly the last time everyone was really together was 3 years ago for Drakes music video I’m Upset. Which was pretty freaking cool that Drake did that and paid homage to where he got started in his career.
I am a bit disappointed that Andrea didn’t take the opportunity to talk about her character Hazel Oden and the episodes where she announced that she is in fact a Muslim from Somalia; bringing lots of awareness both to Somalia and the identity shaming that Muslims students were going through due to ignorance (especially since 9/11 was still fresh in peoples minds).

Degrassi is the one show that I go back and watch for over a decade that just helps me want to stay alive. I want there to be never ending seasons like keeping up with the kardashians.

I'm in America and in 2001/2002, in 8th grade, my health teacher showed us the episode where Spike found out she was pregnant and also the "egg baby" episode. I've watched all the episodes of TNG up until the originals all left) numerous times. I'm actually rewatching now, on Roku. Lol I wish Roku would add the classics. I can't find them anywhere, anymore.

man this show really helped shape me into a better adult when I watched it as a teen. my parents weren’t talking to me about any of it. canada has always been so much more progressive than the states. shout out to linda for pushing boundaries all these years. When I was younger we lived on a street that was about a block or more from the actual Degrassi St. Also, the doctor's office that Spike finds out that she is pregnant with Emma at was my actual doctor's office until the late 80's.
i enjoy the fact that no matter what hair style or color etc i still think Munro is the absolute perfect man
I've been a fan since the ORIGINAL Degrassi, so that's over 30 yrs of love for Degrassi. I loved it for several reasons, but mostly because the kids were real. Problems didn't always get solved by the end of an episode, everyone wasn't unrealistically attractive, really bad things happened and had real consequences, etc.
Euphoria, I feel like only popular kids can relate. Degrassi everyone can relate. That’s why people have such a cult following to it.

One thing I love about Degrassi is the song choices. They did so good with that. The songs really set the mood and made the episodes so much more memorable. Amanda clemens 'I dont want to be me' The sky is breaking up jim by mark boone and so many more songs made the scenes really stand out to me. Edit: please Degrassi give us a Sean and Emma endgame. we have been waiting so long!

I lived in North Carolina back then. I was in high school. It was my school playing out on tv. It was a safe place because as a teen. I went through so much as a teen. I loved each and every character. It was hard to pick a favorite. The Next Generation was still cool even though I grew out of it. I would totally 1000% watch a reboot. Everyone acting was on point to be teens.
