Great video Tom. I’m new to EV. We have been confused which model to first time purchase, because of the price difference and rebates incentives. After watching your comparison video. We are now confident on making the decision to buy the model Y as our children are still little and will grow bigger. We have to paid $10k more and miss out on the rebates. Roughly $13k difference

What is the difference in price for replacement battery. I realise that the Model 3 and Model Y have different battery specs. It is a consideration for me, due to keeping vehicles for over 10 years, as a retiree. Good video BTW. Thanks Tom

    • @paullister7293

Good question, I would like to know the answer to that too as I am in a similar position. Without doubt though, the situation with regards to replacement batteries in 5 years and in 10 years will be different. An alternative approach might be to change it every couple of years for a new one if savings allow 🤔

Divers as in people that like to drive would never prefer a higher ride…it kills the feel and fun of driving. 20cm higher is a massive increase and that is why SUV's have such poor dynamics. I would like a model 3 sized car with a lift back. My current car is an A7 and it is roomy and nice and has lift back but not really a city car. A model 3 without engine or fuel tank should give the same effective room in a more nimble package….but no lift back rear. :-(

It’s interesting that in NZ the difference in ‘drive away’ price between the models 3 and Y is NZ$1300. You get so much more for you money if you choose the Y not least the ability to tow when it’s available.
    Good breakdown of the differences.

You can get a towing hook on the Model 3 also, you just have to contact the salesperson instead of ordering through the web page. Those are actually quite common in Model 3s in Finland.

    • @LudicrousFeed

    • @tonin.4414

@@LudicrousFeed But what about OEM towing hook straight from Tesla? Sounds weird that it wouldn't be available since in other countries you can get it if you ask separately from Tesla even though it's not presented on the order site. But at least in EU / Finland it's really hard or even illegal to have aftermarket towing hooks if they have not been specified for the vehicle from the beginning.

Thanks Tom, it’s the Model 3 for me. Picking it up in 3 days! We’re downsizing and the $3K rebate was the determining factor over the model Y. I had an order in for the BYD ATTO 3 from August but cancelled because of rhe EVDIRECT changes to warranty, service costs etc. Turns out I get the Tesla about the same time (Ordered mid Nov). I did a test drive in the ATTO 3 and liked it, but the price difference for the model 3 was worth it for me. Had EVDIRECT kept their word, I’d be picking that up instead. Your word is your bond. One thing I thought about when watching your family trips is you could talk about the sort of luggage that you're carrying. Don't think I remember how many kids you have, but if you have 2, is your Model 3's space enough to carry luggage when you did your SYD MEL ADL trip or did you have to compromise? Maybe comments like "We originally planned to take 3 hardcase bags but the 3rd won't fit so we had to shed off some clotthes and place a duffel bag next to the kids" .... if this sort of thing happened!

Is there any difference in the external height of the drivers seat? I’m an old guy and like a higher entry height. Also, do either have auto driver profile that changes seat position per profile?

    • @LudicrousFeed

Yes the external height of the Y seat is higher as they are on stilts compared to the 3 as well as having a higher ground clearance. Subjectively with the Y you are climbing up into the driver seat as opposed to the 3 where you feel like you are sliding down into it.
